Hybrid copper-fiber brings power and data from Belden

DC Power and fiber data in one sleeve

St. Louis, Missouri – Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, announces its new FiberExpress Hybrid Copper-Fiber Cables, which safely transmit up to 200W of low-voltage power and data over long distances (up to 1000 m) to remote locations where standard power is unavailable or too costly to install and Power over Ethernet (PoE) is unable to reach.

FiberExpress Hybrid Copper-Fiber Cables allow end-users to take advantage of the benefits of DC power and fiber in just one cable. This hybrid technology offers installation and labor savings by requiring only a single cable pull. Hybrid cable construction also reduces the number of cables installers need to stock; inventory can be decreased by stocking and managing only one cable vs. two (power and data).

These cables contain fiber strands that meet the data demands driven by technology advances in commercial applications. Fiber strands are paired with copper conductors to provide necessary power in these applications – all under one cable jacket. The cables are designed for use in indoor and indoor/outdoor (plenum and riser) applications.

Easy to order using Belden’s SmartPart Numbers, customers can tailor FiberExpress Hybrid Copper-Fiber Cables according to specific fiber construction, conductor, fiber strand, color and/or length requirements.

“Demand for real-time data analysis and on-demand content has caused an explosion of IoT and wireless devices,” says Brent Kiernan, global business leader for fiber system products at Belden. “Often times, these devices aren’t located near a local power source, which drives the need for remote power that can reach beyond the 100 m capabilities of Power over Ethernet. Running fiber allows for longer distances while maintaining Ethernet compliance for devices like cameras, sensors and wireless access points.”
