Tell Me What You Want

You could ask your preferred voice assistant about the news, or you could get it here in a perfectly condensed segment. We’re here to look at the latest news for the residential side of the AV industry, and we are joined this week by Z-Wave Alliance Executive Director Mitchell Klein and Chief Content Officer at CE Pro Jason Knott.

Friend of the show and owner of Josh.ai Alex Capecelatro writes for CE Pro about the top 10 smart home voice commands in 2021. The usual suspects of turning on and off appliances are there, but then there are some interesting outliers like turning off the music more than turning on and directly asking for Apple TV. Is there something that designers of these systems can take from what is being said and perhaps what isn’t? Looking at how end-users are actually utilizing voice commands and navigating this article while trying not to wake any actual voice assistants in the vicinity.

CEDIA has earned third-party accreditation of the Cabling & Infrastructure Technician certification by the ANSI National Accreditation Board. What is the impact of this decision for the industry? Does it any bearing or meaning for the layman outside of the industry or even within? Breaking down what this means for CEDIA & the residential space.

Snap One has acquired Canadian-based distributor Staub Electronics. In one way, Snap acquiring yet another business is just standard news at this point. But being that our host is Canadian, we’re obligated in a way similar to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to have some Canadian content every now and then. So why not ask some Americans about it? We discuss the effects of a smaller market getting a dominant player to take over.

ProSource has extended free access for their members to the ProSource University through September. It’s interesting to compare this story with the previously mentioned CEDIA accreditation, where one is looking to gather new members and this is bolstering the ones already in the circle. We discuss the merits of both systems for the industry and the value of education for integrators.
