  • LEA Amplifiers Support a Prestigious Art Exhibit at the Venice Biennale

LEA Amplifiers Support a Prestigious Art Exhibit at the Venice Biennale

Galleries and museums around the world host an enormous range of art installations and exhibitions, but what appears on screen or occupies the space is often only part of the experience. Audio plays a significant role in these environments, whether by setting the atmosphere, providing complementary background music, or serving as the installation’s soundscape.

Integrator ArtAV specializes in exactly these kinds of spaces, where the supporting AV technology must be technically sophisticated, reliable over extended periods, and nearly invisible. Installations are temporary, often complex, and audio systems are typically operated by curators, exhibition staff, or the artists themselves. Dedicated technical teams are expensive and increasingly rare; systems must therefore deliver high-quality output while remaining simple to operate.

To meet these demands, ArtAV has gradually standardized on Connect Series amplifiers from LEA Professional and loudspeakers from Fohhn. The relationship between ArtAV and LEA was facilitated by Audiologic, whose expertise and industry relationships helped connect the two companies. Together, these technologies have enabled ArtAV to balance operational simplicity with a robust technical foundation across several international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale.

Behind the scenes, though, these systems are far from simple. Many installations involve lots of audio channels spread across several rooms or outdoor areas, with equipment concealed in walls, plant spaces, or temporary racks. ArtAV’s team sets up, measures, and fine-tunes the audio at each installation using LEA Professional’s extensive DSP parameters and its highly regarded Sharkware configuration suite.

“Usability can be every bit as important as amplification power and sonic performance,” said Simon Weightman, Project Manager at ArtAV. “In addition to the built-in DSP capabilities and speaker tunings, LEA amplifiers offer an absolutely fantastic web GUI [WebUI] that simplifies day-to-day operations for front-of-house staff. That is a huge benefit and a significant part of the reason we standardized on LEA for amplification.”

ArtAV worked alongside John Akomfrah on his largest and most ambitious exhibition to date, Listening All Night To The Rain, at the 60th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale. It included 104 audio channels distributed across a basement gallery, flanking side rooms, and a main hall, all of which were required to play in precise sync.

Each space carried its own distinct soundscape: 18 loudspeakers setting a foreboding tone in the basement, voices threading through a suspended sculptural cloud of tape players and vinyl records, and a sphere of sound shaped by 20 loudspeakers in the main gallery’s immersive eight-projection wrap-around. With spaces in close proximity and wildly different sonic characters, the audio mix needed to both stand alone in each room and cohere as a single, unified experience.

LEA’s amplifiers proved central to achieving that balance. ArtAV’s team installed several Connect Series 168 amplifiers to power the exhibit. The CS168 is an 8-channel amplifier providing 160 watts per channel. All amplifiers in the Connect Series are professional-grade, IoT-enabled smart amplifiers suitable for installations of any size. They support both Hi-Z (70V or 100V) and Lo-Z, selectable by channel, eliminating the need for separate amplifiers to handle different speaker impedances, while streamlining installations and reducing equipment costs. The Connect Series also includes 96kHz DSP as a standard feature, providing a range of benefits that greatly enhance audio performance and system versatility.

“With over 100 channels of audio in the installation, LEA’s metering and control enabled fast fault-finding and responsive level tweaks during the exhibition, but it wasn’t just a case of ‘set and forget’,” recalled Weightman. “We could monitor and manage the system remotely  from the UK during operation, as well as during the installation.”

“Also, the LEA amps fit eight channels of 160W in 1U. Being able to have that smaller form factor is a massive bonus for us.”

Artgoers and critics responded very positively to the exhibit, praising its immersive blend of moving image, sound, and archival material, with major reviews calling it a “magnificent” and emotionally overwhelming experience.

“As installations become more immersive and increasingly reliant on complex audio, having intelligent amplification is now just as important as having great loudspeakers,” said Weightman. “With LEA, we know we have a platform that is reliable, flexible, and easy to support remotely, which allows us to focus on helping artists realize their vision.”

    WebUI

WebUI allows users to check the status of every amplifier connected to the network and the status of every channel on any given amplifier to monitor channel performance. In addition, the platform allows users to view and adjust channel settings, including input settings, signal generator, crossover, equalizer, limiter, and load monitoring.

    Sharkware

SharkWare allows integrators to configure a base profile and push it out to all the pre-staged LEA amplifiers. SharkWare includes amplifier grouping, offline design, granular user access control levels, locked speaker tunings, and a graphical EQ. SharkWare also allows users to monitor the status of every amplifier connected to the network, as well as the status and performance of individual channels. In addition, the software allows users to view and adjust channel settings, including input settings, signal generator, crossover, equalizer, limiter, and load monitoring, for all LEA Professional Connect Series amplifiers.

    LEA Cloud

The Connect Series delivers an industry-first professional amplifier family to feature cloud connectivity, a revolutionary advancement and a significant benefit for anyone maintaining the systems. With LEA Cloud, AV integrators like ArtAV can remotely control and monitor amplifiers from anywhere, at any time, and with no subscription model or hidden costs. It’s completely free to use.

  • Powersoft Unica Anchors AHT Marine’s Yacht Audio Platform

Powersoft Unica Anchors AHT Marine’s Yacht Audio Platform

Space, weight, power efficiency and reliability are constant constraints in yacht design. For AHT Marine, a technology integration firm with more than two decades of experience in the marine sector, those constraints increasingly shaped decisions around audio amplification. Over the past year, AHT Marine has moved toward standardizing on amplification from Powersoft for its yacht projects, citing power density, network compatibility and long-term reliability as the primary drivers.

Founded in 1996 as Advanced Home Theater, AHT Marine has built a global reputation designing and integrating high-end entertainment, control and automation systems across residential, commercial and marine environments. In the yacht market, the firm delivers complete technology ecosystems, including audio, video, lighting, environmental control, IT networks, communications and security, often within extreme physical and operational limits.

One of the most significant factors behind AHT Marine’s decision to utilize Powersoft was the relationship between amplifier output and physical footprint. On yachts, equipment racks are often fixed early in the design process and cannot be expanded later without structural changes. The electrical rooms and audiovisual spaces also share volume with mechanical systems, storage and service access, leaving little flexibility for larger hardware. As a result, every rack unit must deliver maximum usable power without increasing rack height, weight or cooling requirements. Amplifiers that require multiple rack spaces to achieve higher output can quickly exceed available capacity, forcing additional racks or compromises elsewhere in the system. For AHT, selecting a platform that delivered high power density in a consistent 1U form factor allowed system designs to meet performance targets while staying within the physical and regulatory limits imposed by yacht construction.

“What we like about Powersoft is that we can get the wattage we need in a 1U configuration,” Al Reinhard, principal for AHT Marine. “Space is always a major consideration on yachts. With this platform, we can do more with less rack space.”

Using 1U amplifiers instead of larger multi-channel 2U models cuts rack space needs in half. On a recent yacht project, AHT specified approximately 64 amplifiers. If those units had required 2U each, the system would have consumed an additional rack and a half of space, which was space the vessel simply did not have.

The ability to select different power levels within the same physical format was equally important. With output options ranging from roughly 1,000 watts to 8,000 watts per unit, AHT Marine can match amplifier power to specific loudspeaker requirements without changing chassis size or rack layout.

Powersoft’s Unica amplifier platform proved to be a strong fit for these constraints. With rack space fixed early in the build process and little opportunity for expansion, AHT Marine needed an amplifier that delivered high output without increasing rack height, heat load or system complexity. Unica addressed those constraints by combining high-channel-count amplification, onboard DSP and network connectivity in a 1RU chassis, allowing AHT to consolidate processing and amplification while keeping rack density under control.

Each Unica model integrates advanced DSP functionality, allowing filtering, limiting, time alignment and system protection to be handled directly at the amplifier level. The approach simplified signal flow and reduced potential failure points, a priority in marine environments where access to equipment can be limited once a vessel is underway. As Reinhard noted, “All of it is AES67, so it blends perfectly with our existing systems. We use audio over IP across our projects, and compatibility is not optional.”

The network compatibility strengthened Unica’s fit within AHT Marine’s broader system architecture, where audio distribution must coexist with control, monitoring and IT systems on shared infrastructure. At the same time, Unica’s third-generation architecture supports a high signal-to-noise ratio, allowing AHT to maintain consistent audio quality across owner suites, guest areas, outdoor decks and crew spaces, despite their differing acoustic demands.

Powersoft Unica’s efficiency played an equally important role in the decision. Unica’s redesigned output stage and power supply minimize energy loss as heat, reducing electrical demand and easing thermal stress in tightly packed racks where airflow is often restricted by yacht design. “They’re extremely efficient in terms of power consumption,” Reinhard explained. “That’s critical on a yacht. The device’s weight is another major consideration because anything excessively heavy can push a yacht into a different classification, which has real regulatory and cost implications.” By lowering both power consumption and heat output, AHT Marine was able to meet performance requirements without introducing additional cooling demands or regulatory risk.

The reliability remained a non-negotiable factor. Yacht owners and charter clients expect uninterrupted performance, particularly when vessels are leased for weeks at a time at premium rates. “When an owner is on board, everything has to work,” said Reinhard. “If audio fails during a charter, that becomes a serious issue for the owner, the captain and the engineer.” AHT Marine’s previous experience with other manufacturers highlighted the consequences of equipment failure in these environments, while its ongoing deployments of Unica have reinforced confidence in long-term system stability.

Support responsiveness further influenced the decision to standardize. AHT views key manufacturers as partners in its projects, particularly when custom requirements arise. In one instance, Unica amplifiers needed to be flush-mounted in racks that differed from standard configurations. Powersoft engineered and delivered a custom mounting solution in a short timeframe, allowing installation to proceed without redesigning the rack layout. “That level of responsiveness matters when you’re working within tight construction schedules and limited space,” the team said.

After roughly a year of active deployment across multiple yacht projects, AHT Marine has continued to expand its use of Unica amplification. The combination of compact form factor, scalable power options, onboard DSP, network compatibility and manufacturer support has led AHT Marine to standardize the platform across its marine portfolio.

“We’re very loyal once we find something that works,” said Reinhard. “Our clients are at the upper echelon, and they don’t have time for problems. Working with companies that understand our business and our constraints is the most important part of selecting a partner.”

For AHT Marine, Unica has become a valuable foundation for delivering consistent, reliable audio performance across some of the most demanding yacht installations in the world.

LEA Professional Amplifiers Make a Splash at Jawfish Restaurant

Jawfish Restaurant in Portland, Oregon, is where locals and Northwest travelers come together to eat, drink, and revel. The restaurant brings together inventive cooking, comforting flavors to satisfy a wide range of tastes, and a lively bar scene in an atmosphere alive with the spirit of the Pacific Northwest.

Jawfish was undergoing a full renovation when Novus AV received a call about installing a new audio system there. The restaurant had received a referral from “a friend of a friend” and wanted a multi-zone configuration, with the caveat of using some existing Tannoy AMS 6ICT and AMS 5DC surface-mount loudspeakers. Novus AV immediately included LEA Professional amplifiers in the system.

“LEA is my primary go-to amplifier for just about everything, unless a customer specs it otherwise,” said Ryan Cook, Owner of Novus AV. “I wanted an amplifier that was going to be powerful enough to accommodate a flexible number of speakers and whatever the future might hold.”

Novus AV installed a 4-channel Connect Series 704 amplifier to power the restaurant, which provides 700 watts per channel. The restaurant is divided into four zones: the bar, the dining area, the restrooms, and the front atrium, each on a dedicated channel.

Even with a last-minute “oops” when someone accidentally switched off the rack’s power, the client is very happy with the installation. Everything is working and sounding great, and the restaurant’s popularity has blossomed since its grand opening, often requiring reservations to get a table.

“Restaurants are known to be harsh on AV equipment. I’ve seen other brands fail rather quickly because of the environment, but I’ve never had to send in an LEA amplifier for repair, regardless of the operating environment,” said Cook. “So I knew they were reliable and powerful enough, had the feature sets that I needed, and were going to give me peace of mind about the project. You can’t ask for much more.”

  • Powersoft Ottocanali Delivers Rock Solid Performance at the National Museum of African American Music

Powersoft Ottocanali Delivers Rock Solid Performance at the National Museum of African American Music

The National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM), located in the heart of downtown Nashville, is the only museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacies of African American music across every genre, from spirituals and gospel to jazz, blues, hip-hop and R&B. Since its opening in 2021, the museum has become a cultural landmark, drawing visitors from across the country and around the world. The NMAAM’s mission is brought to life through exhibitions, artifacts and immersive audiovisual experiences that connect visitors emotionally and sonically to the music itself.

A centerpiece of NMAAM is the orientation theater, a hybrid space that serves as both an introduction point for visitors and a venue for live performances. With a large stage and a curved 32-foot-wide screen that expands to nearly 60 feet during presentations, the theater presented unique acoustic and engineering challenges. The screen design required a sound system that was both extremely shallow, to fit within the limited depth behind the screen, and mobile, so that speakers could move with the screen’s side panels and expand the audio field in sync with the visuals.

“We had a clear goal we were trying to achieve,” said Tim Creed, CTS-D, president of CED, Inc. “The theater needed an audio system that could keep pace with the expanding screen, delivering a seamless, immersive experience for visitors. The challenge was finding speakers shallow enough for the space and light enough to mount on the moving panels, without compromising sound quality.”

To address these challenges, Creed turned to Innovox, a trusted partner recognized for its expertise in engineering custom solutions. Innovox provided a complete system design, including matched speakers, EQs and amplification. CED Inc. performed rigorous testing of the system, with the design exceeding every requirement, delivering the performance and flexibility needed for the space.

The final solution combined subwoofers positioned in the center, high-performance speakers integrated into the large central screen, additional lightweight speakers mounted on the traveling side panels and dedicated center channels. To power the entire system, Innovox recommended Powersoft’s Ottocanali Series, a choice that proved vital to the installation’s success.

The Ottocanali is an 8-channel, Class D power amplification platform capable of supplying up to 12,000 W of power at 4 ohms. Designed for multi-zone applications in medium- to large-scale installs, the Ottocanali Series supports any combination of Lo-Z or Hi-Z output connections and includes universal switch-mode power supplies with PFC. All amplifier platforms in the Ottocanali Series feature switchable main/aux signal inputs per channel, mono-bridgeable channel pairs, as well as a wide range of functions, including system control, alarms, GPI/O, and monitoring. The Ottocanali Series includes optional DSP+D versions outfitted with Dante™ inputs, enabling Ottocanali DSP+D amplifier platforms to seamlessly integrate within networking environments and give users a wide range of monitoring and sound-shaping capabilities.

For NMAAM’s orientation theater, the flexibility of the Ottocanali Series was essential. The system required amplifiers that could seamlessly handle a hybrid design of subwoofers, main channels and mobile side-panel speakers within a single venue. With its eight independent channels and DSP+D capabilities, the Ottocanali Series provided the control, tuning and efficiency necessary to achieve that balance.

The amplifiers feature Powersoft’s patented Smart Rail Management (SRM) technology, which recycles reactive energy from the loudspeakers. SRM reduces overall power consumption and heat dissipation, ensuring that the amplifiers run efficiently while lowering long-term operating costs, a benefit particularly important for a venue operating at the scale of NMAAM.

“I trusted Innovox’s recommendation on Powersoft,” Creed explained. “The Ottocanali Series gave us exactly what we needed – flexibility, reliability and world-class sound quality. The Ottocanali Series fits perfectly into the system and has proven to be an excellent choice.”

While the choice of equipment was crucial, the installation itself presented its own challenges, particularly in managing the cables for the retractable side panels. The cables had to extend and retract repeatedly without strain or signal degradation. With careful engineering, the team succeeded, and the system performed exactly as intended.

The result was an immersive audio experience that expanded dynamically with the visuals, creating a seamless sense of scale for visitors. According to Creed, the effect was striking. He said, “The speakers in the moving side panels widened the sound field in perfect sync with the visuals. It gave visitors exactly the kind of immersive experience we envisioned.”

The system’s performance has even been favorably compared to the theater’s separate high-end live system used for concerts and special events. According to the facility’s owner, the Innovox and Powersoft system actually sounds superior. “That was a real point of pride,” Creed noted. “Our Ottocanali-driven system, designed for orientation films and multimedia, was judged to outperform a world-class live performance rig. That speaks volumes about the precision and quality of Innovox and Powersoft.”

Since its installation, the system has operated flawlessly. Despite the mechanical complexity of the moving panels, the audio has never been a point of failure. “Powersoft has absolutely met our expectations,” said Creed. “We love working with partners who stand behind their products, just as we do. Despite the system’s moving parts, which could easily lead to issues over time, we’ve had zero problems with the audio itself.”

For Creed, the project highlighted the value of collaboration with suppliers who share a passion for excellence. “We’re a small, boutique, high-end company,” he explained. “We value working with equally passionate manufacturers. Innovox and Powersoft were exactly that.”

  • LEA Amplifiers Power Clear Sound and Enhanced Learning Across a School District in Northern Virginia

LEA Amplifiers Power Clear Sound and Enhanced Learning Across a School District in Northern Virginia

The history of the eastern part of Northern Virginia stretches back to the early colonial period of the United States. Established in the mid 1700s, the area was defined by agriculture, trade, and its strategic location along the Potomac River. It remained predominantly rural until the latter part of the 20th century, when suburban development accelerated as the Washington metropolitan area expanded westward, evolving the area from a quiet agricultural region into a major suburban hub while still preserving elements of its historical character.

The area now hosts one of the largest public school systems in the state, serving tens of thousands of students across more than 100 schools, emphasizing academic excellence, equity, and innovation while striving to meet the varied needs of its learners. The school district has navigated challenges posed by rapid population growth, demographic shifts, and evolving educational expectations, continually adapting its policies, facilities, and instructional practices to support student success and community engagement across the region.

To effectively manage its numerous schools, the school district adopted a phased approach to replacing outdated AV equipment. District staff reached out to Elspeth McCormick, Project Developer at Artistic Concepts Group, Inc. (ACG), to create a comprehensive rollout plan for both replacement and new hardware. The school district was looking for amplifiers that could meet all the needs of a variety of spaces — standardization was a high priority given the number of systems the client needed to support. McCormick thought LEA amplifiers would be a great fit for the school system’s requirements.

“There was a wide variety of spaces to accommodate, ranging from auditoriums with robust audio systems already in place to gyms and cafeterias with little to no equipment,” said McCormick. “LEA has one of the strongest amp lineups in the industry, so it was natural for us to recommend them.”

ACG installed a variety of LEA Connect Series amplifiers to address the diverse needs of the spaces within the school district, including multiple Connect Series 352, Connect Series 354, and Connect Series 702 models.

The CS352 and CS354 are 2- and 4-channel amplifiers, respectively, providing 350 watts per channel, while the 2-channel CS702 offers 700 watts per channel.

ACG’s technical team used LEA’s free SharkWare software to configure a base profile and push it to all pre-staged LEA amplifiers. SharkWare includes amplifier grouping, offline design, granular user access control levels, locked speaker tunings, and a graphical EQ. SharkWare also allows users to monitor the status of every amplifier connected to the network and the status and performance of individual channels. In addition, the software allows users to view and adjust channel settings, including input settings, signal generator, crossover, equalizer, limiter, and load monitoring, for all LEA Professional Connect Series amplifiers.

The Connect Series also delivers an industry-first professional amplifier family featuring cloud connectivity, a revolutionary advancement, and a significant benefit for anyone maintaining the systems. With LEA Cloud, AV integrators like ACG can remotely control and monitor amplifiers from anywhere, at any time, and with no subscription model or hidden costs. It’s completely free to use.

School and district staff are pleased with the audio upgrades. Audio clarity is exceptional, and the expanded capabilities in some rooms give instructors greater flexibility in their teaching methods.

“The form factor of LEA amplifiers is excellent. We often have limited space in our existing equipment racks, and the LEA amps help us and our clients save valuable space, sometimes even allowing us to avoid purchasing a larger rack,” said McCormick. “Additionally, we really appreciate LEA’s technical support team. They always answer the phone, are very knowledgeable about AV above and beyond LEA products, and we know LEA will provide support to keep our customers’ systems running efficiently. For these reasons and more, we will definitely be using LEA amps for this client in the future, as well as for many others!”

LEA Amplifiers Elevate Sound Quality at Jablonec nad Nisou City Theatre

Located in the center of the Czech city of Jablonec nad Nisou, the city’s historic theatre stands as one of its most treasured cultural landmarks. Completed in 1907, the building reflects the elegance of early 20th-century Art Nouveau design and has served as a gathering place for the performing arts for more than a century. While the venue doesn’t have a resident ensemble, each season brings more than 200 visiting performances spanning drama, opera, ballet, concerts, and children’s productions. Renowned Czech companies and touring artists regularly appear here, ensuring a diverse and dynamic cultural calendar.

Beyond its programming, the theatre itself is part of the experience. The interior retains an exceptional array of original Art Nouveau decorative elements, from lighting fixtures to ornamental detailing, creating an atmosphere that transports audiences to another era.

When some of the existing AV systems began to fail, theatre staff contacted Matěj Sborový, project manager at AudioMaster CZ, to design and deliver a comprehensive AV solution to elevate the venue’s operational efficiency and entertainment capabilities. AudioMaster, in turn, partnered with Michal Blazek Profisound to perform the installation.

“The theatre has a pretty extensive audio system,” said Sborový. “However, almost everything in the old system needed to be replaced. LEA amplifiers were my first choice to ensure exceptional audio quality.”

Sborový selected Connect Series 702D and Connect Series 354D amplifiers to power the theatre’s loudspeakers. The IoT-enabled 2-channel 702D delivers 700 watts per channel, while the 4-channel 354D delivers 350 watts per channel. Both models support Hi-Z (70V or 100V) and Lo-Z, selectable by channel, eliminating the need for separate amplifiers to handle different speaker impedances and streamlining installations and reducing equipment costs. Connect Series amplifiers also include a 96kHz DSP standard in all models and offer a range of benefits that significantly enhance audio performance and system versatility. Dante-enabled models like the 702D and 354D include 96kHz-capable Dante and AES67 connectivity, simplifying system installation with scalable, high-resolution audio over IP (AoIP).

The Connect Series delivers an industry-first professional amplifier family featuring cloud connectivity, a revolutionary advancement, and a significant benefit for anyone maintaining the systems. With LEA Cloud, AV teams can remotely control and monitor the amplifiers regardless of location or time of day, and with no subscription model or hidden costs, it’s completely free to use.

“The LEA Cloud service is a tremendous benefit for me and the theatre. Being able to log in from anywhere and troubleshoot issues or make necessary adjustments is a game-changer,” said Sborový. “There’s very little I can’t access remotely, which ultimately saves my customers money because I don’t have to dispatch a local technician or drive to the site.”

The Jablonec nad Nisou City Theatre has a full calendar of upcoming events. Thanks to the audio upgrades, every seat in the theatre now offers an outstanding experience, and visiting ensembles have praised the clean, beautiful sound.

“LEA amplifiers just work,” said Sborový. “The state-of-the-art connectivity and pristine sound make these amplifiers essential for the theatre. I’ve been thoroughly impressed with every aspect of LEA.”
