    Connecting with customers in new ways
    Emerson Automation Solutions is a leading provider of products and solutions for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications. As a manufacturer of flow-metering systems, Emerson conducts calibration and testing of these devices prior to shipping from its facility in Ede, central Netherlands to customers worldwide.

    Meter calibration and inspection has traditionally been performed with the customer physically present to observe and validate the process. However, due to the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, Emerson has developed a remote-inspection service that allows customers around the world to see the product being calibrated in real time.

    Showing every detail of the inspection process with 4K clarity
    The innovative solution introduced by Emerson makes use of Sony SRG Series remote PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) cameras, allowing flow-meter customers to observe details of the calibration process and give approval from their own location.

    Live video streams from the cameras are monitored by Emerson personnel, who can use a touch-screen controller to zoom in as needed to see close-up details with razor-sharp clarity. Images are then streamed to customers around the world via live videoconferencing link, with an Emerson representative giving an explanation of the calibration process.

    The remote solution has helped Emerson overcome the challenges of product inspection during the coronavirus crisis. As well as reducing the need for face-to-face contact, it has also saved hours of travel time and associated costs for its customers.

    Telycam has unveiled the company’s first professional box camera, the Vision+ 4KZ. The feature-packed new camera provides a cost-effective solution for live production and Pro AV applications that require spectacular video quality but don’t need the remote pan and tilt control of Telycam’s popular PTZ cameras.

    Telycam will demonstrate the Vision+ 4KZ box camera in booth W3231 at the upcoming 2025 NAB Show in Las Vegas.

    The Vision+ 4KZ captures stellar 4K video at 60 frames per second via its 1/1.8-inch, nine-megapixel CMOS sensor. 20x optical zoom enables the capture of crystal-clear close-ups. The Vision+ 4KZ can also simultaneously crop an additional 1080p high-definition output from the 4K Ultra HD image, with auto-framing keeping important subjects automatically in view.

    The Vision+ 4KZ features a unique integrated side control panel with a color screen. In addition to displaying key camera parameters (such as the IP address) and image attributes, the control panel’s five buttons allow users to adjust settings directly on the camera. The box camera can also be remotely managed via an intuitive, browser-based web interface and standard control protocols.

    The new camera continues Telycam’s tradition of providing flexible AV and IP connectivity for easy workflow integration. HDMI and USB output interfaces are complemented by support for AV-over-IP and streaming outputs including NDI® HX3, SRT, RTSP, RTMP and more. Other key features include 3.5mm line-level and mini XLR (with phantom power) audio inputs; POE+ (Power over Ethernet) support for streamlined power management; and local recording to a microSD card.

    Telycam designed the Vision+ 4KZ box camera to overcome one of the common issues in multi-camera productions. Switching between camera angles can be jarring to viewers if the coloration and visual “look” of the cameras don’t match. The Vision+ 4KZ shares the same premium-quality lens, sensor and image processor as Telycam’s Vision+ 4KN 20x PTZ camera, making it easy for users to match colors and visual characteristics in environments that combine fixed-position and PTZ cameras.

    The Vision+ 4KZ box camera is expected to ship in May. Telycam cameras are distributed in the United States and Canada by MVD (Mobile Video Devices, Inc.).

    Extending learning across three campuses

    The Prefectural University of Hiroshima was established in its current form in 2005, after the integration of three universities in the Hiroshima Prefecture.

    The university has introduced an innovative and engaging remote learning solution that allows lectures to be viewed by students at three separate campuses linked by a secure VPN (Virtual Private Network).

    At the heart of the solution is Sony’s REA-C1000 Edge Analytics Appliance. This award-winning device uses AI technology to process and enhance video content in real time, providing additional features for immersive teaching and learning that aren’t possible with conventional videoconferencing systems. Operation of the system is beautifully simple, with lecturers selecting different functions via an intuitive touch panel, without the need for complex adjustment of camera settings.

    Giving every student a clearer view

    Handwriting Extraction analyzes video footage captured with the ceiling-mounted BRC-X1000 4K PTZ remote camera, recognizing the lecturer’s written notes and diagrams as they write on the board in front of the students. This extracted writing appears to float on screen, giving a clear view even for students at the back of the room or on another campus. As well as enhancing the clarity of natural writing, it also gives students a clear view of what’s on the board, unobscured by the lecturer’s back as they write.

    Footage captured by the BRC-X1000 also allows Focus Area Cropping, with a single camera providing two simultaneous views as separate video feeds: a detail-packed close-up of the lecturer’s expressions and gestures, together with a separate picture of the entire room.

    A BRC-X400 4K PTZ camera in the lecture theatre supports Close-up by Gesture, automatically zooming in under control of the REA-C1000 to capture a student when they stand up to contribute or ask a question. In addition, a compact ceiling-mounted SRG-120DU camera at each campus captures crisp Full-HD images for web conferences or smaller seminars.

    Midwich Ignite has invested in Ciqurix, a UK-based leader in video flame detection technology. This partnership will support Ciqurix in obtaining LPS1976 accreditation for its CORE product, which uses infrared and video analytics to detect fire in difficult environments, making it the only product to meet this new fire standard.

    The investment enables Midwich to back an innovative fire safety solution that addresses gaps where traditional detectors fail, aligning with new regulatory standards.     Midwich Ignite, the corporate venture capital arm of Midwich Group, has announced a strategic investment in Ciqurix, a pioneer of video flame detection technology.

    Superior Image Quality to Capture Every Moment

    Capturing clear, high-quality content in live event environments can pose challenges with shifting lighting conditions and dynamic backgrounds. The AK-UCX100 supports strong image quality right out of the box. The new imager offers high sensitivity and dynamic range, easily adapting to both a darkened auditorium and venues with dazzling lighting effects. Its colorimetry has also been optimized to account for any new challenges with LED lighting and large display walls while the camera’s HD low-pass filter helps manage the effect of moiré in LED walls. This allows venues to easily create the same experience for fans whether they are in-person or tuning in from home.

    With improved resolution and 4K capabilities, the AK-UCX100 achieves a resolution of 2000 TV lines both horizontally and vertically, capturing detailed, ultra-high-definition images of the subject from any angle. Plus, the wide dynamic range and color gamut of HLG/BT.2020 lets content creators capture colorful, immersive stage performances for the most advanced display technologies.

    A Simple, Versatile Design

    Designed for easy operation as part of the Panasonic studio camera family, the AK-UCX100 streamlines on-site workflows. Content creators have the freedom to choose the best operation with or without a Camera Control Unit (CCU). The UCX100 supports 3G and 12G SDI outputs from the camera head and direct connection of the Remote Operation Panel Sync and tally so it can be operated as a standalone. Standalone operation is full featured when using 25Gb ST2010 connectivity to the camera head. Panasonic’s new Camera Fiber Adapter (CFA100) can insert camera power into a standard ST 311 hybrid fiber cable for standalone camera operation or local power operation when used with the CCU. Users can take advantage of either mode as production requirements demand.

    When producing content in a traditional studio with a CCU, the camera pairs with Panasonic’s recently released AK-UCU700 Series Camera Control Unit, which provides all traditional points of connectivity. The UCX100 can easily pair with any Panasonic camera, including the AK-UE160 PTZ camera, to ensure consistent, cohesive production quality.

    Flexibility to Future-proof to IP

    The AK-UCX100 supports everything from simple studio applications to IP-based live production. The UCU700 CCU gives content creators a full range of production format options, including 4x high speed 1080p and 2x high speed UHD & HDR. Inputs and outputs include 12G-SDI, as well as NDI High

    Bandwidth, SRT, and SMPTE 2110 at 25 Gbps. This enhances flexibility from baseband to IP operations at HD & UHD.

    ST 2110 can either be connected via the AK-UCU700 or directly to the camera for CCU-less operation. When using the UCX100 in an all-IP environment, including ST 2110 for transport and sync, the CCU is not necessarily required as all the points of communication input and output can be addressed on the same network connections. Both direct-camera-connected or CCU-connected ST 2110 support ST 2022-7 network redundancy and SMPTE ST 2110 (JPEG-XS) for sub frame latency compressed feeds of HD and UHD on the ST 2110 network.
