    Riedel and Haivision Join Forces to Advance Wireless Video Transmission

    Riedel Communications has partnered with Haivision to deliver advanced wireless video transmission solutions as part of Riedel’s Managed Technology services. By integrating Haivision’s ultra-low-latency live video systems with Riedel’s Easy5G Private 5G technology, customers can now access a complete wireless video workflow, including planning, deployment, and support from one provider.

    This collaboration was first showcased during WDR’s live broadcast of the Cologne Carnival, where Haivision’s 5G transmitters and Riedel’s Easy5G network enabled smooth, real-time wireless camera operations. The companies say this is just the start, with future opportunities to connect more production tools like intercoms over the same private 5G network.

    Riedel Communications today announced a new partnership with Haivision, a leading global provider of mission-critical, real-time video networking and visual collaboration solutions. Through this partnership, selected Haivision products will be offered as part of Riedel’s Managed Technology services. By combining Haivision’s ultra-low-latency live video transmission systems with Riedel’s Easy5G Private 5G solution, customers will be able to source comprehensive wireless video solutions from a single provider – including planning, operation, and support delivered by Riedel’s Managed Technology team.

    The joint setup made its debut on November 11 at German public broadcaster WDR’s live broadcast marking the start of the Cologne Carnival season. Two Easy5G base stations provided reliable coverage across the entire Heumarkt, one of Cologne’s largest public squares. Two of WDR’s 10 cameras were equipped with Haivision’s 5G mobile video transmitters – one stationary wireless camera aimed at the audience, and one mobile unit used for live interviews and dynamic stage shots. The transmitters converted the SDI signals to IP and delivered them with stable, low-latency performance over the Easy5G Private 5G network to the Haivision StreamHub receivers in the OB truck.

    Like Director Mini, the new Director One is a comprehensive production and streaming solution that combines multi-input switching, graphics, streaming, recording and monitoring in one compact device. Director One offers all proven benefits of its older but smaller sibling including exceptional AV and IP input flexibility; sophisticated production tools; extensive output capabilities; and a wide range of control choices including the integrated touchscreen, the Director Utility mobile app, a browser-based web interface, and optional third-party controllers.

    Director One features a 7″ AMOLED touchscreen, over 25% larger than Director Mini’s interface. Director One’s screen delivers 800-nit brightness and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, enhancing visibility in environments such as bright sunlight.

    While Director Mini supports third-party USB cellular modems for internet connectivity, Director One offers an integrated 4G modem (SIM card not included). Both models also support wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity — with dedicated 4G and Wi-Fi antennas on Director One — and can combine connections with network bonding technology from partner Speedify.

    Director One shares the same rich input capabilities as Director Mini, including two HDMI inputs, two USB AV inputs, HTML web pages, file-based media assets, three mobile cameras and three simultaneous live IP sources including SRT streams, RTMP streams, RTSP streams, NDI® High Bandwidth and NDI® HX. On the output side of the equation, both models support NDI HX, SRT and RTMP streams as well as a USB-C interface that is configurable for UVC output. Director Mini’s USB-C interface can alternatively be connected to a DisplayPort monitor (including HDMI monitors with an optional adapter), while Director One adds a dedicated HDMI output. Both solutions can also record productions to an SD card or built-in storage.

    All of Director Mini’s vast production toolset is available in Director One, including rich graphics capabilities, telestration, instant replay, built-in scoreboard functionality, HTML graphics overlays, chroma keying, PTZ camera control and much more.

That means greater ease of use, reliability and control for camera crews during productions while retaining benefits like 4K resolution, HDR and Wide Color Gamut that inject the dramatic look and feel of cinematic productions into live and live-to-tape events. The demo will also feature a studio viewfinder for the VENICE 2 cameras.

    SilverBack-V fiber transceivers are adaptable to any digital cinema or broadcast camera, and multiplex video, audio and data signals for multicamera 4K/UHD productions onto a single tactical or SMPTE hybrid fiber cable with robust connectivity and remote powering. The primary NAB New York demo will also leverage MultiDyne’s small-footprint VB Series as a base station for signal transport, and MultiDyne’s JUICE-48 SMPTE hybrid fiber power supplies to send power to cameras over fiber.

    “The SilverBack-V feature set was purpose built for the Sony digital cinema camera line up and it continues to evolve along with the latest cameras like the VENICE2 and BURANO,” said Jesse Foster, Vice President of Product Development, MultiDyne.

    MultiDyne will showcase a similar cinematic multicamera workflow to achieve the same production benefits for live events featuring PTZ cameras. This secondary demo marries the cost-efficient VB Series fiber transceivers with Sony FR7 cinema full-frame PTZ robotic cameras. This demo will employ technologies from MultiDyne’s APE family of advanced power extension solutions, including MultiDyne’s HUT-APE SMPTE hybrid power supply.

    This demo accentuates MultiDyne’s specialized technologies for demanding accessory power requirements, including a separate VB Series signal transport configuration using POE++ to power FR7 cameras over the network. It will also provide HDMI 2.0 support for menu feeds, demonstrating MultiDyne’s emphasis on addressing connectivity challenges for an increasingly diverse array of cameras.

    “VB-APE FR7 PTZ camera transceivers combine the ability to customize the video, audio and data I/O to your exact requirements,” said Foster. “The added benefit of using remote power puts it on the level of studio camera chains, which means content creators can support just about any kind of 12V/24V accessories required for the production.”

    Foster adds that MultiDyne’s JUICE-60 power supply can be added to the VB Series/PoE++/FR7 configuration to provide remote power over hybrid fiber in parallel to PoE++ powering over IP. NAB New York runs tomorrow and Thursday at the Javits Center. MultiDyne exhibits at Booth 926.
