Theory Audio Design has expanded its lineup with the new PLC Series amplified loudspeaker controllers, unveiled at CEDIA Expo 2025. Designed in collaboration with Powersoft, the PLC series includes four models (4- and 8-channel options) that deliver powerful, energy-efficient amplification with advanced DSP and Audio over IP networking. These compact 1RU units are purpose-built for large venues, professional installations, and live sound applications, bringing high-fidelity audio with reliability and scalability.
The PLC platform combines Theory’s proprietary loudspeaker presets with Powersoft’s patented Class-D amplification, SmartRail power management, and native Dante and AES67 support. With features like power sharing across all channels, PoE-enabled networking, and easy amplifier restore via USB, the PLC controllers are engineered to provide flexibility, efficiency, and pristine sound for complex AV environments. The series will be available in Q4 2025.
Premium audio brand, Theory Audio Design, is introducing a new line of amplified loudspeaker controllers at CEDIA Expo 2025. The PLC series, comprised of two 8-channel and two 4-channel models, leverages Powersoft’s patented Class-D amplification topologies, SmartRail energy-management power supplies, Power Factor Correction, and advanced DSP architecture to bring Theory’s premium sound into complex residential, professional, large venue, and live sound applications.
“Theory’s DLC series of loudspeaker controllers are very popular in the residential segment. However, integrators, specifiers, consultants, and end users have been asking us to bring Theory’s high-fidelity and high-output sound to their larger and more complex projects,” said Paul Hales, Theory CEO. “With our recently introduced SR Series loudspeakers and manifold subwoofers, paired with the new PLC loudspeaker controllers, we are going after that segment head on with a small catalogue of immensely capable, innovative, and flexible products. If you’re a fan of the small format Theory products, wait until you hear what Theory can do for your large format projects.”
Powersoft’s technology is widely recognised by the audio industry for its unmatched reliability, energy efficiency and pristine sonic transparency achieved through ultra low noise converters, linear phase FIR filters, and Active Damping Control. Combining high-quality amplification with advanced DSP capabilities, plus PoE give PLC users exceptional sound reproduction and precise control. PLC 4 and 8 channel loudspeaker controllers are compact (only 1RU) but extremely power dense. They are reliable, scalable, provide exceptional sound reproduction and offer advanced DSP capabilities. Add in Theory’s proprietary loudspeaker presets and you get big, clean, high-fidelity, sound for large-formant and even portable applications.
The four new Theory PLC loudspeaker controller models include:
PLC-4K8 8 channels x 500W per channel
PLC-8K8 8 channels x 1,000W per channel
PLC-9K4 4 channels x 2,250W per channel
PLC-16K4 4 channels x 4,000W per channel
“Partnering with Powersoft to create Theory’s PLC loudspeaker controller platform was a no-brainer,” said Marc Bertrand, Theory CSO. “Feedback directly from the field is that for large, complex installations, Powersoft’s patented amplification and processing technology delivers the best sounding, most powerful, and reliable solution, especially for those deploying elaborate Dante or AES67 systems.”
“We are proud to embark on this close partnership with Theory, which places Powersoft’s patented amplification and DSP technologies at the heart of the new PLC line,” said Luca Lastrucci, CEO of Powersoft. “Their decision to align with us validates our commitment to being the reference technology partner for power, efficiency and pristine audio in large-venue, live-sound and complex networked applications. Together, we will set a new benchmark for performance and reliability.”
Key features of Theory’s PLC Loudspeaker Controller platform include:
- Proprietary Theory Loudspeaker presets
- Native Dante & AES67 Audio over IP networking
- All-channel power sharing
- Three configurable 1Gb network ports with 1x PoE
