  • Kramer Bets on Panta Rhei

    Kramer Bets on Panta Rhei

At ISE 2024 Kramer launched Panta Rhei, a unified, cloud-based platform that aims to move the AV industry more into software solutions instead of hardware. This platform’s goal is to streamline the entire audiovisual lifecycle, offering a comprehensive suite of services for system integrators, IT/AV managers, and end-users alike. InfoComm 2024 was the first time the company was showing it off to the North American market in person.

Panta Rhei represents a significant shift in the industry, bridging the gap between traditional audiovisual systems and modern IT practices. By integrating these two worlds, the platform enables seamless data transition, enhances operational efficiency, and ensures a consistent user experience throughout the audiovisual lifecycle.

    Software Everywhere

Chatting with Kramer North American President, Amit Ancikovsky at InfoComm, he makes the case that the “future of AV is in IP solutions.”

“Imagine Kramer VIA (their wireless collaboration tech) without the hardware,” Ancikovsky said. “Panta Rhei can control non-Kramer devices, monitor entire AV deployments, and work within IT wheelhouse.”

Panta Rhei is a step towards bridging the gap between traditional audiovisual systems and modern IT practices. The platform offers a range of services, including setup and management, monitoring and support, analytics, session management, AVoIP management, and administration. These features collectively aim to reduce the time and resources required for audiovisual management while boosting uptime, utilization, and user satisfaction.

    Panta Rhei Possibilities

It’s an interesting concept as far as IT and tech managers go. Giving universities and corporations a single, unified solution to manage all the AV deployed makes sense. There are a few questions that haven’t quite been addressed yet.

The first is price. Ancikovsky indicated that pricing will be released later in 2024 or early 2025. Panta Rhei will be originally sold through traditional AV channels such as dealers. Renewals, though, will be sold through Kramer directly. The company will work with the channel on recurring revenue.

The other aspect is that of network impact. More AV devices on the network puts additional pressure on IT departments to maintain a minimum uptime and network health. There is not currently any documentation on the impact of Panta Rhei on the bandwidth or network impact.

    What about Subs?

A final side note is that of subscription fatigue. Yes, IT departments are used to paying for their equipment and service level agreements (SLAs) on either an annual or monthly basis. The “big lift” of capital expenses has been shifted over to operational expenses; Cap Ex versus Op Ex. Today there is an increasing disillusionment with that model. Companies and universities are looking at all areas to cut costs. The bigger question is whether the horse of subscription and continual payments can be put back in the barn, as it were.

Any time a company aims to develop “the future” of anything, there will be pushback and questions. Panta Rhei is no different in that. We just don’t have enough answers yet. As the technology is deployed in more companies hopefully Kramer will be able to speak more openly about the customers using the software and will be able to discuss pricing and network impact. Until then, we’ll sit back and watch a pretty intriguing development in the latest software-forward solution in Pro AV.

The awards from AV Technology and Digital Signage magazines recognize its innovation and practical benefits in professional AV environments.

IHSE USA today announced that the company’s kvm-tec Scalable Pro Line 5K was honored with two awards at InfoComm 2024 in Las Vegas. Following its Best of Show honors at the NAB Show earlier in the year, the kvm-tec Scalable Pro Line 5K has now been honored with InfoComm Best of Show Awards from AV Technology and Digital Signage magazines.

“Flexibility is what defines today’s successful control, broadcast, and other applications, and that’s what the Scalable Pro Line is built around,” said Dan Holland, marketing manager at IHSE USA. “We’re honored to have received Best of Show awards from AV Tech and Digital Signage magazines. We’re grateful to the judging panels for the recognition.”

IHSE’s kvm-tec series, KVM-over-IP-based Scalable Pro Line 5K, supports up to 5K60 video and multiviewer capabilities over a 10G network switch. • Q-SYS Reflect Upgrades at InfoComm 2024

Q-SYS Reflect Upgrades at InfoComm 2024

Q-SYS Levels Up Cloud Game with Reflect Plus

Q-SYS is taking its cloud-based AV management to new heights with the launch of Reflect Plus, a souped-up version of its existing Reflect platform. This upgrade brings a full-stack approach to AV infrastructure monitoring and management, aiming to give IT managers more control and insight than ever before.

The new Reflect Plus isn’t just about keeping an eye on your AV gear – it’s designed to be a proactive tool for decision-making and automation across various applications and markets. Q-SYS is clearly positioning this as a bridge between AV and the broader IT landscape.

One of the features is the ability for admins to remotely manage and control systems through any web browser. Need to help a user or tweak a system setting? No need to be on-site anymore. Q-SYS is also touting the platform’s API, which allows for integration with existing IT management tools – a move towards that coveted “single pane of glass” for infrastructure oversight.

Q-SYS has revamped the pricing structure for Reflect Plus. Instead of charging based on connected devices, they’re now basing it on the number of Q-SYS systems. This change seems geared towards making it easier for customers to scale up their deployments without fear of ballooning costs.

Q-SYS is also expanding its hardware lineup with some new features:

    – The QIO-FLEX4A: A Swiss Army knife of an I/O expander, packing audio, control, and even some amplification into one box.

    – The QIO-LVR4: For when you need to control those pesky third-party lighting systems and motorized shades.

    – The PS-TSCG3 Touchscreen Paging Station kit: Pair it with their existing touchscreens for a slick paging and music management solution.

And for the Teams users out there, Q-SYS has another trick up its sleeve. Their VisionSuite, complete with AI-powered presenter tracking, just got the official nod from Microsoft. This certification covers a range of Q-SYS gear, from processors to cameras and mics.

With these updates, Q-SYS is clearly aiming for a larger slice of the enterprise AV pie, positioning itself as a one-stop shop for organizations looking to manage their audio-visual tech with the same rigor as their IT infrastructure. It’s a move that acknowledges the move to an increasingly cloud-centric world.

  • Take your hands off the new Avocor Line

Take your hands off the new Avocor Line

    Avocor expands their non-touch line

Remember when Avocor was just that interactive flat panel company? Those days are long gone. At InfoComm 2024 the company is flexing their muscles as a full-stack communication solutions powerhouse, serving up communication displays for corporate and government suits to campus IT managers. Enter the K Series.

The K Series is Avocor’s answer to spaces that don’t need touchy-feely screens but still crave that visual punch. Think of it as the cool, collected cousin to their interactive displays. Avocor would say the same visual goodness that powers their interactive versions lives in the K Series.

The new K Series is available in a range of sizes from a modest 55 inches all the way up to a wall-devouring 98 inches. These displays are ready to make your PowerPoint slides pop like never before. The new displays also are available in traditional 16:9 ratio and the new 21:9 as well. We all know 21:9 is what Microsoft Teams is trying to make a thing. Whether it becomes standard practice is yet to materialize. If that’s the direction you and your team are going, Avocor has one for you.

The K Series comes on the heels of Avocor’s recent forays into digital signage and LED solutions. These non-touch displays are aimed at meeting spaces where interactivity isn’t necessary but high-quality visuals are crucial. The move also gives customers who have standardized on Avocor interactive displays the ability to deploy the same display brand across their campuses. Standardizing on a single display company isn’t a luxury. Think about servers, switches, or laptops. There’s a reason you have the same company for all those devices. Same with displays here. Same company, same support.

Available in sizes ranging from 55 to 98 inches, the K Series is positioned to compete in the growing market for video-enabled spaces. With prices starting just under $1000 MSRP, Avocor is targeting organizations looking to outfit multiple rooms with professional-grade displays.

  • AMX NMX 2600 has AVoIP Options

AMX NMX 2600 has AVoIP Options

On the show floor of InfoComm 2024 AMX showed off their new NMX-DEC-N2622S decoder. Typically known for using SVSi video encoding technology, AMX is expanding into Dante AV. The NMX-DEC can decode both SVSi as well as Dante AV signals.

The specs on the new NMX 2600 series is about what we’ve come to expect from any AV over IP product. The 4:4:4 chroma sampling and 4K 60 resolution support means you can put nearly any signal into the device. A nice addition is the “virtual network USB” means you can leverage KVM features and extend peripherals.

    AMX NMX Wallplate
    AMX NMX Wallplate

The NMX-DEC-N2622S also boasts enhanced security features, addressing growing concerns about network safety in the age of widespread video streaming. Security is a serious concern in government installations. But those security needs are also in healthcare, finance, and higher education. There’s also a companion wallplate that encodes the signal at the source.

One side note about the addition of Dante AV-A in an AMX device. Since the purchase of SVSi, Harman and AMX have leaned on this technology. The addition of Dante AV-A marks a new direction for the control and video distribution company. One that comes at a time when they are rolling out a new platform for control and configuration. Parent company, Samsung, has made a significant investment in the development of MUSE.

MUSE is Harman’s new automation and control platform. The thing about MUSE is that it is part of a holistic software package from Harman. These parts and pieces will work together with the software that runs BSS, Martin Lighting, and other Harman brands.

There was a time during the pandemic when Harman was not only quiet, they were absent on the industry stage. Now we know what they were up to. Harman and Samsung have made a serious commitment to R&D and are beginning to show off that investment. This is just a first for the company and we’ll see more as the months and years advance.
