    Christie® 4K10-HS 1DLP laser projectors deliver exceptional clarity and vivid colors at the new flying theatre attraction at Hetou Old Street scenic area in Tangshan, Hebei province. This captivating experience takes visitors on an aerial journey through northern China’s most iconic sites, including the ancient Great Wall, the breathtaking Shanhaiguan Pass, and the historic Chengde Mountain Resort.

    Known as “Flyover Hebei”, this 5D dome theatre combines stunning visuals with 7.2-channel surround sound, six-axis mechanical seats, synchronized motion effects and sensory elements like wind and mist, fully immersing audiences in the experience of soaring above Hebei’s majestic landscapes. By highlighting 20 landmarks and attractions across 11 cities, this multi-sensory adventure offers an unforgettable flight through the province’s rich heritage and natural beauty.

    Christie’s trusted partner, Jianye Display, supplied the 4K10-HS laser projectors for “Flyover Hebei,” while Shenzhen Guandu Technology served as the systems integrator and subcontractor responsible for constructing the flying theatre. A total of eight 4K10-HS projectors were strategically deployed to display vibrant, true-to-life 6K-by-6K resolution visuals on the theatre’s spherical screen measuring 16 meters (52 feet) in diameter, delivering an exceptional visual experience.

    “The Christie 4K10-HS laser projectors were selected for their compact footprint, 4K UHD resolution, and impressive color performance thanks to Christie BoldColor Technology,” said Xing Zhong, project manager, Shenzhen Guandu Technology. “These projectors allowed us to deliver high-quality imagery and vivid, natural colors to make the audience feel like they are flying over Hebei’s exciting landscapes.”

    The projection system design underwent meticulous simulation and analysis to achieve perfect alignment of projectors on the dome’s 400-square-meter (4,306-square-foot) spherical surface. The outcome is stunning, seamlessly blended 6K visuals that fully immerse up to 45 guests within the theatre’s 17-meter (55-foot) high space. The Christie 4K10-HS projectors deliver smooth, uncompressed frame-by-frame playback, preserving the high-definition content’s clarity and depth. This seamless setup ensures flawless visuals, even in darker scenes, for an uninterrupted, immersive experience.

    Housed within the historic dome room of the Silent Green event venue in Berlin, this multimedia installation immersed audiences in the urgent issue of climate change and its impact on the Oceania community. ‘Oceanic Refractions’ wove together a moving narrative through testimonies from Oceania natives, accompanied by the sounds of their natural environments—from the bustling life of coral reefs to the serene rustle of mangroves. The auditory journey was further enhanced by 360-degree videography, kinetic seating that mimicked the ocean’s movement, and olfactory effects that transported visitors to the shorelines of Fiji, Kiribati, and the Duke of York Islands in Papua New Guinea.

    FrameWorks, a multimedia system designer and integrator from Ireland, used the latest trusted technologies to create this unparalleled 360-degree multi-sensory environment. Olan Clarke (FrameWorks) specified 16 Panasonic projectors, aligned and driven by a single Screenberry media server, to create a seamless video display across two 360-degree cylindrical screens and an octagon-shaped dome. A quartet of Datapath Fx4 units split the signal from the media server to 16 WUXGA outputs.

    The combination of the single server and Datapath video wall controllers used to manage playback across all three screens simplified the setup and ensured a seamless extension of the immersive environment from floor to ceiling. Increased cost and energy efficiency were additional bonuses.

    To output visuals onto two circular panoramas, each 10 meters in diameter and 3 meters high, Screenberry aligned 8 x Panasonic PT-RZ970 projectors utilizing a combination of automatic and manual calibration. To map the 10-meter domed ceiling, the media server auto-calibrated an array of 8 x Panasonic PT-DZ780 projectors.

    Media Server

    Previous generations of multi-projector systems were built around the “one computer per projector” paradigm. However, this approach has significant drawbacks, including a relatively large budget for the computer hardware, more possible points of failure, difficulties in implementing proper failover solutions, and higher electricity consumption. Another downside of cluster systems is the discrepancy in video playback speed across different computers, which can result in rough, jerky playback.

    An alternative to the multi-server system is a single-server approach. Screenberry’s highly efficient video engine uses every bit of power from the media-server hardware to process extremely high-resolution media in real time. As a result, it can handle many more displays per single machine than most other solutions available.

    The Hilton Kuala Lumpur hotel’s grand and junior ballroom, as well as its meeting room, have replaced their audio system with a state-of-the-art, cost-saving new set-up powered by Powersoft’s Mezzo, Duecanali and Quattrocanali amplifiers.

    The award-winning hotel, located in the Malaysian capital’s transportation hub in the vibrant Kuala Lumpur Sentral area, wanted to refresh the sound system in order to have high-quality and clear sounding audio in its newly renovated function spaces.

    After winning the tender, Concept Audio chose Powersoft’s Mezzo, Duecanali and Quattrocanali amplifiers to play a central role in the audio overhaul, selected to meet the diverse requirements of each venue within the hotel. “We chose Powersoft due to the amplifier flexibility and enhanced efficiency, as well as the seamless integration they provide,” says Castrit Lim Lit Seong, managing director of Concept Audio.

    Seong and his team revamped multiple areas of the Hilton hotel, including the 565m² Grand Ballroom, the Junior Ballroom and the meeting rooms, with a focus on delivering clear and crisp audio quality. “The integration within the rooms was done separately,” he explains. “We relied on three Powersoft’s Duecanali 1604 DSP+D, one Quattrocanali 1204 DSP+D and Duecanali 804 DSP+D, to power the Grand Ballroom.” Powersoft’s Duecanali and Quattrocanali series amplifiers offer a remarkably low power consumption and heat dissipation in a compact, lightweight unit, making it perfect for medium-scale installation where system flexibility is a must.

    In the Junior Ballroom, used for team building activities or small gatherings, Seong and his team installed four Mezzo 602AD. The Hilton’s meeting room is powered by one Mezzo 322 AD. Powersoft’s Mezzo series offer reliability and the same build quality in a half-rack-unit form factor, and AD versions of Mezzo add audio networking capabilities with DanteTM/AES67 and an internal Gigabit Ethernet switch with a second port so that multiple products can share the same network.

    Accompanying the Powersoft amplifiers in the Grand Ballroom are 18 Tannoy CMS 1201DCT, 16 Tannoy CMS 503IC, six Tannoy CMS 503ICT and four Tannoy CVS 4 ceiling speakers. In the Junior Ballroom, Concept Audio also installed 12 Tannoy CMS 803DC BM and 10 Tannoy CMS 503ICT ceiling speakers. Mezzo powers ten Tannoy CMS 803DC BM ceiling speakers in the meeting room.

    According to Seong, the amplifiers platforms’ flexible output capabilities enabled a reduction in the number of units required, resulting in a substation cost savings for the client. “Mezzo amplifiers offer the versatility to seamlessly convert analogue inputs to network audio, eliminating the necessity for additional network audio input hardware,” he explains. This streamlined approach not only enhances efficiency but also simplifies the installation process, ensuring a seamless and high-quality sound experience for all users.

    The installation process was smooth, with Powersoft amplifiers easily integrating with the ceiling speakers in various rooms within the hotel. Seong adds that the team faced no significant challenges, underscoring the reliability of Powersoft amplifiers. “The newly installed system is easy to control, stable and has allowed for the hotel to save on equipment costs,” he says.

    Seong concludes by saying that the end user is thrilled with the easy-to-control and stable amplifiers: “The customer is happy about the new installation.     Urânia Fulldome, a pioneering Brazilian company in educational technology, is transforming the way students across the country learn about astronomy through its innovative project, “O planetário móvel vai às escolas” (The planetarium goes to schools). This ambitious initiative brings immersive, 360-degree educational films directly to schools in different states across Brazil, using mobile domes equipped with Christie Inspire Series 1DLP® laser projectors.

    The 13 mobile inflatable domes, which measure 7 meters (23 feet) in diameter and 3.8 meters (12.5 feet) in height, are traveling Brazil in dedicated trucks, visiting different schools across the country. The goal is to foster the school community’s interest in astronomy and related sciences.

    Each portable planetarium is equipped with a single 8,500 lumen 4K UHD Christie 4K860-iS projector and provides a fully immersive visual experience for up to 60 students seated on tatamis on the floor. With multiple sessions throughout the day, each dome has the capacity to serve up to 600 students daily. The domes’ synthetic fabric construction, tailored specifically for Urânia, allows for quick and easy setup, with the entire structure inflating in minutes.

    Since the project’s launch, 1 million students have had the opportunity to experience the wonder of the cosmos through these Full HD and 4K films, making complex astronomical concepts accessible and engaging for young minds.

    Beyond its school outreach program, Urânia Fulldome also contributed to the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), held in Rio de Janeiro state in August 2024. For one of the event’s presentations, the company provided three of its mobile planetariums, each equipped with a Christie Inspire Series projector, to deliver a memorable experience to the participating students. The IOAA, an annual competition for high school students from around the world, attracted 250 students from 57 countries this year. “The students were highly impressed by the quality of the projections and the immersive movies showcased in the domes”, said Tiago José da Silva.

    Riedel Communications today announced that longtime customer Czech Radio, the official public radio broadcaster of the Czech Republic, has once again upgraded its Riedel Artist intercom infrastructure as part of its ongoing system expansion. Smart Informatics handled the system integration and support.

    Czech Radio initially deployed the Artist wired intercom system in 2009, finding it to be a versatile and reliable solution that would immediately simplify communication between individual workplaces and, over time, support straightforward expansion. Since then, the broadcaster has incrementally scaled up its Riedel intercom system to accommodate changes in technology and operations.

    “In our 15 years of collaboration with Riedel Communications, we have seen the seamless evolution of the Artist ecosystem,” said Karel Zyka, CTO at Czech Radio. “Thanks to thoughtful development by Riedel, we have been able to extend and upgrade our Artist infrastructure over time, without the need for a complete renewal of our intercom system.”

    Over the years, Czech Radio has shifted from early Artist versions up to the Artist-1024 and from early Riedel RCP and DCP Series intercom panels to next-generation SmartPanels. Following this latest upgrade, the broadcaster’s infrastructure now consists of one new Artist-1024 frame, three Artist-64 matrices, almost 10 dozen intercom panels, including RSP-1232 and RSP-1216 SmartPanels, and a new Bolero wireless intercom system.

    “One of the reasons we recommended Riedel products to Czech Radio is their exceptionally long lifespan. The company’s older products operate seamlessly with newer generation solutions, making for future-proof investments,” said Tomas Vesely, Managing Director at Smart Informatics. “What’s more, their innovative solutions continue to amaze with new unique features like the new 1200 Series SmartPanel’s Syntonous Mode, which enables flexible and efficient connections to remote locations.”

    Czech Radio operates 10 nationwide stations and another 14 regional stations. Some of the regional studios are connected via VoIP, while others are connected via the SmartPanel’s Syntonous Mode, a feature that connects 1200 Series SmartPanels in wide area networks. In Syntonous Mode, the SmartPanel supports AES67 connections to the Artist matrix with high-path delay and without PTP synchronization. AES67 with Syntonous Mode provides high-quality audio with low latency, making it a powerful alternative to VoIP connections.

    “Artist’s versatile feature set enables entirely new workflows for us, and we appreciate the variability of possible connections, the simple and user-friendly environment, and, above all, the system’s reliability,” Zyka said. “We are the public broadcaster; we can’t allow mistakes. That’s why we use Riedel’s intercom technology — because it always works. Also, the cooperation between Riedel and Smart Informatics is excellent. We especially love the fast service and almost nonstop support.”

    In most situations, two technicians, one producer, and one or two presenters use the Artist system for communication between work sites and for MADI interconnection to their third-party switching system. At the news stations, teams use the panels’ GPIO properties for on-air signaling to remote workplaces. For communication at outdoor events, they rely on the Bolero wireless intercom system, which consists of two antennas, four beltpacks, and one NSA analog converter.

    Christie® HS Series 1DLP® laser projectors deliver a spectacular immersive experience to visitors of La Selva, an educational geodesic dome designed to foster appreciation and preservation of the Colombian rainforests. Located in the Parque Empresarial El Tesoro shopping mall in Medellín, this project is a collaborative effort between the mall and Lonko Labs.

    Rainforests make up 36.5% of Colombia’s territory, with the largest expanses in the Amazon and Chocó regions. These areas are home to a diverse array of animal species, plants, fungi, and other forms of life, and contribute to Colombia’s status as the second most biodiverse country in the world.

    To honor these vital ecosystems and raise awareness about their conservation, Parque Empresarial El Tesoro created La Selva, a sensory experience made possible through a realistic and immersive digital environment developed by Lonko Labs.

    La Selva features a 13-meter (43-foot) diameter and 8.5-meter (288-foot) high dome with a negative pressure system. The exterior closely resembles a traditional maloca or jungle dwelling, while inside the dome, six 13,500-lumen Christie HS Series projectors are blended to create a 360-degree projected image on a 265-square-meter (2852 square foot) surface, with a total resolution of 3500 x 3500 pixels.

    The projected content, specifically created for La Selva and overseen by scientific experts, includes 3D animations of flora and fauna. Visitors can immerse themselves in the Colombian rainforests and interact with mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects, and plants. Multiple audio channels provide surround sound, enhancing the total immersive experience.

    The decision to use Christie projectors was based on their reliability and minimal maintenance requirements, explains Victor Abarzúa, founder and director of Lonko Labs. “These projectors allow us to achieve excellent results and provide peace of mind, ensuring flawless execution of the project,” says Abarzúa.

    Abarzúa particularly highlights the HS Series’ laser illumination, low power consumption, and high image quality: “The color richness of the 1DLP projector is very close to the quality of a 3DLP, and it’s lightweight, making it easy for two people to handle.”

    He adds, “I would also emphasize its network connectivity for control, monitoring, and calibration functions, as well as its responsiveness in EDID Manager protocols and good synchronization. Its flexibility to work in any physical position is also noteworthy.”

    Lonko Labs was responsible for various aspects of the project, including creative art direction, 3D modeling and animation, geodesic dome infrastructure, audiovisual integration, and the creation of original music by a large team of musicians using traditional instruments.

    La Selva offers 12 daily performances, each lasting about 15 minutes, with a maximum capacity of 60 people per performance. Seating includes beach-style chairs, individual poufs, and a large central pouf for children, all designed for comfortable sky-gazing. La Selva will be at Parque Empresarial El Tesoro in Medellín for two months, with plans to bring the dome to other cities in Colombia.

    “La Selva is a truly unique project in Colombia, involving an unprecedented creative process by a multidisciplinary team of over 100 people working under rigorous conceptualization. In short, it is an immersive experience with an unconventional mise-en-scène, meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail,” concludes Victor Abarzúa.

    With the main hall and auditorium featuring wall-to-wall glass windows, the Philips Public LED High Bright 7000 Series’ 1200 nits’ brightness** ensures uncompromised viewing experiences at all times – including exposure to direct sunlight – key to the project’s success.

    All panels used in the project come with built in cable management, keeping power and data wires tidy, while the display cabinets are daisy chained for both power and data to minimise clutter and speed up installation.

    For optimal performance, both videowalls feature Philips dvLED’s 24/7 Active Health Monitoring, helping Fersa Bearings’ AV/IT management teams to predict, pinpoint, and resolve any issues before they even occur. Adding further protection, the Philips dvLED videowalls include IP30 rated conformal coating, making them resistant to potentially harmful airborne pollutants, including dust, dirt, fungus, and moisture, reducing the risk of corrosion and short circuiting.

    Supporting the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification in all its facilities, the Philips Public LED High Brightness 7000 Series features ‘Dynamic Power Saving’ technology, allowing for up to 20 per cent lower running costs compared to other comparable market models.     Located in Hyderabad, Osmania University is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education. The university undertook this large-scale nighttime spectacle to celebrate and preserve its rich history, and foster pride and appreciation for its heritage among students, faculty, and visitors. The project is designed to enhance the educational experience by offering an innovative and engaging way to explore Osmania University’s journey since its founding in 1917.

    Aura Bright Light India Pvt Ltd integrated the project and was instrumental in bringing this amazing display to reality. Its expertise in integrating advanced AV technologies with historic architecture ensured a seamless blend of modern visuals with the university’s history. Aura Bright Light India meticulously managed the installation, testing, and commissioning of the Christie DWU23-HS projectors, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

    The Christie DWU23-HS projectors are strategically positioned to deliver colorful, lifelike imagery on the Arts College’s façade, which spans 350 feet in length (107 meters) and 60 feet in height (18 meters). With guidance from Rhino Engineers Pvt Ltd, which managed the project and provided design consultancy, and the creative content expertise of Knownsense Studios, the project was executed seamlessly and completed on schedule.

    The show features music by Indian composer and playback singer Vandemataram Srinivas, and voiceover by renowned South Indian actor Sai Kumar. Inaugurated by India’s Tourism and Culture Minister, G Kishan Reddy, the 20-minute performance runs on weekends, delighting spectators with its immersive visual and auditory experience.

    Featuring BoldColor+ technology that enhances color performance with deeper blacks and more natural, realistic onscreen visuals, the 23,650-lumen DWU23-HS laser projector is known for its compact form factor and quiet operation, with noise levels as low as 35dBA. This makes it ideal for various applications ranging from live events to museums and boardrooms.

    Additionally, the DWU23-HS is compatible with Christie Mystique, an automated camera-based alignment and recalibration software that allows for quick installation, alignment, calibration, and maintenance of multi-projection systems.

    At-Turaif District in ad-Dir’iyah: A Masterpiece of Historical Illumination

    The ancient city of At-Turaif, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is now a stunning nighttime spectacle, due to the artistry of Speirs Major Light Architecture (SMLA) supported by 3,200 lighting fixtures by Martin Professional.

    This lighting project brings to life the epic scale and historical significance of At-Turaif with a beautifully layered tapestry of golden light. Speirs Major’s design articulates the stories hidden in the layers of buildings, courtyards, and archaeological remnants, capturing and reflecting the site’s extraordinary spirit to create a remarkable living national monument.

    At-Turaif, dating back to the 15th century, was the first capital of the Saudi state. Perched on a raised site at the edge of the ad-Dir’iyah oasis, in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula, it includes the remains of many palaces and an urban settlement. The lighting design by SMLA enhances the site’s historical essence, turning it into a nighttime masterpiece.

    The lighting fixtures utilized in the At-Turaif project come from Martin Professional’s Exterior Linear and Exterior Wash families. These product lines are designed for demanding environments, ensuring longevity and reliable performance. Key features include ease of installation, deep saturated colors, smart infrastructure for individual fixture control, and durability in extreme conditions.

    “The opportunity to create the after-dark experience of such a special and significant site is a rare honour,” said Keith Bradshaw, CEO of Speirs Major Light Architecture. “Our previous work on exceptional sites like the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi and the Dom Tower in Utrecht informed our approach at At-Turaif. We are fascinated by the stories and memories that live within these unique places and how we can use light as a narrative tool to draw them out, creating a meaningful connection between people, place, and architecture.

    The feeling of walking within At-Turaif feels literally like stepping back in time. The design amplifies this sense of another time and place, animating the subtle tonal variations in the natural materials to feel as if they are lit by flickering torch light. Finding the right quality of light was crucial. SMLA tested a huge range of tones to achieve the exact shade of golden light that makes the mud-brick walls glow beautifully and naturally.

    Addressing the sheer scale of At-Turaif, SMLA leveraged their extensive experience in city light master planning, breaking the project into phases and zones. They carefully analyzed the site from all important viewing angles, ensuring that the site remains a major focal point in the landscape when viewed from Diriyah Gate across Wadi Hanifah. Balancing the external identity and the internal experience of the monument was key to the design.

    Bradshaw elaborates on the design approach: “Having identified the surfaces, facades, streets, and courtyards that shape the site’s most important views and experiences, we used a palette of differing light intensities to create a richly interwoven tapestry of layers and zones. This design supports locals and visitors in understanding and appreciating the site, while revealing its beauty.”
