It’s Not 1995

It’s time to take a look at the commercial side of the AV industry and discuss the biggest stories surrounding it. Joining us in this endeavor is Manager of AV & Collaboration for Henderson Engineers Erica Williams, Nic Milani of Epiphan Video and Managing Director for Service & Support Tom Milner.

You might have heard about some of the cancellations surrounding CEDIA Expo 2021. This however, is a show for commercial so we’ll just let the recent of ResiWeek that talked all about the news surrounding CEDIA Expo 2021 speak for itself. The Consumer Technology Association has announced that CES 2022 will requires all attendees to show proof of vaccination. The National Association of Broadcastsers has also stated they will require proof of vaccination for attendees for their convention in Las Vegas in October. Last week we discussed the latest changes to AVIXA’s InfoComm show in October requiring masks and distancing, so now we discuss what this means for those attending the show and those exhibiting. Is the way of the big trade show that everyone goes to a relic, making way for regional shows or is this another bump in the road?

T-Mobile has been recently hacked, having their data breached and over a hundred million customers’ data taken. What might’ve begun as a conversation into keeping data secure and what happens when (not if) a breach occurs takes a turn into dispelling the myth of data being “always out there” and what it would take to make privacy laws a more viable option in a situation like this where data has been taken.

Crestron and Shure partnered up at the start of August to recieve certification for Microsoft Teams when running Shure’s IntelliMix DSP on Crestron’s Flex Video Conference System Integrator Kit. What all that technobabble means is that two of the biggest companies in the commercial space have completed a project that those implications might go farther than just this industry. Could the rumors be true and this be leading to something like PC-based software for AV? Looking at what this partnership means and the impact’s implications down the road.
