One Dollar, Sixteen Tons

It’s time to look at the latest news and stories surrounding both the AV industry and the higher education space. Joining us this month is Director of Client Services for Bates College Scott Tiner, Director of AV Services for the University of Arkansas Ernie Bailey and Assistant Manager for Events & Classroom Services for Yale School of Medicine Ann Kelly.

We first look at a potential crossroad technology managers must face. Should we be buying or leasing equipment? Due to the different short and long-term advantages on both sides, it usually comes down to the lawyer-friendly “it depends” answer. Even so, we look at the pros and cons of each side to see what works best for your classroom.

Crestron announced Zoom certification for their Videobar 70 during Zoomtopia 2023. While Microsoft Teams dominates the corporate side of unified communications, Zoom still has a major foothold in higher education and classroom AV. What does this move by Crestron mean for the space moving forward?

ZeeVee has upgraded their AV over IP platform ZyPer, increasing its security for networks. As more campuses and classroom become connected spaces, safeguards and security becomes an integral part of a technology manager’s job. Discussing best practices for staying secure and what this new platform means.
