Savant Systems has entered into an agreement to purchase GE Lighting. Both Savant and GE are well known within our sphere. Still, this is a surprising deal. CEDIA and Emerald Expositions has announced they are cancelling CEDIA Expo 2020. While initially planned to take place September 8-12 in Denver’s Colorado Convention Center, it is currently being used as a medical care facility for COVID-19. While this news is certainly a big deal, it’s not entirely unprecedented. Emerald Expositions had previously cancelled every scheduled event for the first six months of 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic. Even on this very show when a story involved CEDIA Expo it was more of a hypothetical that the show would go on unchanged. However, there are plans for a virtual experience coming in September. We take a look at what this means for both attendees and integrators as well as manufacturers, and what they hope to get out of a virtual show.
