Indistinguishable From Magic

CEDIA Expo Virtual has finished. That means there is plenty of news to be talking about surrounding the residential side of the AV industry. If only we had such a show. If we did, theoretically it would include Senior Editor for CE Pro Bob Archer as well as CEO & “The Dude” of Just Add Power Taft Stricklin to guide us through the biggest news in AV.

As expected, we discuss CEDIA Expo Virtual now that we have made it through to the other side. Other than the obvious virtual nature, what were the key differences? Are we going to see some of these changes stay with us in a hybrid sense in future shows?

Speaking of virtual events, Lutron revealed during the show that they will be hosting their own Lutron Connection events. It will be a six-week series of virtual events kicking off this Friday, September 25. We just got through one event. They have become the hydra of this industry where one goes down and several more pop up. More shows sound good on paper, but how do we stave being burned out by the end of it? Discussing the dreaded Zoom fatigue and how we can get around it.

Savant is getting into a partnership with the manufacturer Robern. This will combine Robern’s bathroom furnishing with Lutron’s circadian lighting systems for bathroom vanities and mirrors. Is it a challenge for regular integrators to get into more niche areas like bathroom AV?

Finally, Integrated Systems Europe 2021 has been announced they will be postponing the show to June. They also state that this will not be stepping on any toes in terms of InfoComm. Is it still too early to say the show will be moving forward? Getting a look at where our industry might be as that date approaches.
