It was reported Monday that Microsoft would be buying speech-recognition software company Nuance Communications for $16 billion. With a B. This is potentially some serious news for innovation in the speech and transcription space (although perhaps to paraphrase M. Bison for Microsoft it was a Monday) but are we actually going to see any ramifications or waves from this deal in the AV space? Looking at what this means for the industry and the copmanies in question moving forward.
What was known for at least a few years as an open secret: Logitech is officially discontinuing the Harmony universal remote line. It has ceased to be, gone to meet its maker, and so on. What exactly did kill Harmony, though? Have universal remotes become a vestigal part of the home theater experience, or could Logitech have had a hand in it? We do our own investigation and pondering on the passing of the Harmony remote line.
