Extron NAV Pro AV Over IP Keeps Fast Paced Bidding Going Smoothly at Euro Auctions

Euro Auctions is one of the largest auctioneers of industrial and construction machinery in the world. A recent expansion of their Leeds, UK facility made it the largest permanent auction site in Europe. The expansion included the construction of three auction arenas and installation of state-of-the-art AV systems designed to provide bidders with video views of items up for bid, and instant bid updates via video screens and PA speakers throughout the auction areas. Visavvi, the integration services arm of global AV technology specialists Saville Group, York, UK, designed and built a flexible, scalable, and reliable AV system. Extron ultra-low latency NAV® Pro AV over IP Encoders and Decoders and Extron AXI 44 AT Dante Audio Interface units allow video and audio to be routed throughout the sprawling facility over existing 1 Gbps network cable infrastructure, saving installation time and expense. The NAV PURE3® Codec provides the ultra-low latency required for fast-paced auctions and enables video scaling for the display of high-definition images of sale items alongside crisply rendered text showing up-to-the-second bid amounts.

“Extron’s cutting-edge AV over IP and control technology has allowed Euro Auctions a hassle-free event set up with a virtual plug and play solution that functions well with minimal interaction required from the Euro Auctions staff,” says Brian McCabe, Global IT Manager at Euro Auctions. “We’re drawing up plans to further expand the system and appreciate that NAV AVoIP scales up within the existing design solution with minimal additional investment,”

The NAVigator hardware appliance manages and controls the NAV Pro AVoIP system during system configuration. It enabled Visavvi to deploy the endpoints rapidly using an intuitive web browser interface and allows Euro Auctions to easily reconfigure endpoints as needed. During daily operations, an Extron TouchLink Pro touchpanel in the control room and NBP 100 button panels in the auctioneers’ booths control AV routing and other system functions via an Extron IP Link Pro controller. The intuitive operation provided by the control system allows auctioneers to manipulate the AV system while staying focused on the job at hand: calling the auction action.
