This new lower-cost camera tracking configuration eliminates the need for a DSP mixer and a control system.

    The UNITE® 160 4K camera supports all leading virtual meeting platforms including Microsoft® Teams, Zoom™, Google® Meet™, WebEx™, and GoToMeeting™.

Challenging lighting conditions are no match for the camera’s advanced 2D and 3D noise reduction, which ensures excellent visuals free of artifacts or grain. Camera control is attained through an IR remote, RS-232 connection, or UVC/UAC protocols, offering broad integration with control and automation systems.

  • Artel Video Systems’ Quarra PTP Ethernet Switches Bring Reliable Timing Accuracy to Pro Audio Market

Artel Video Systems’ Quarra PTP Ethernet Switches Bring Reliable Timing Accuracy to Pro Audio Market

Artel Video Systems announced that it has extended its suite of Quarra PTP Ethernet solutions to the professional audio market — a market that eventually must migrate to IP-based workflows just as other media markets are doing. For early adopters of audio over IP in pro audio, Quarra switches have increased ease of use, flexibility, reliability, and timing accuracy while booting up more quickly. These benefits make Quarra an essential part of the workflow as the trend reaches mainstream levels and as solutions grow more reliant on media-over-IP standards.

“We want to aid in the adoption of audio over IP, so we are aiming to create more awareness and comfort with the technology — especially within the individual contributor space,” said Rafael Fonseca, Vice President, Product Management at Artel. “This market will soon encounter a need to embrace the technology, and we believe Quarra has an edge over the competition due to its ease of use and fast boot times.”

As workflows in pro AV environments continue to move toward IP, the only available components in the future will be IP-native. By providing managed IP switches that are PTP-aware, Quarra helps users to start adopting good practices as it pertains to IT infrastructure in support of audio-over-IP workflows.

So far, the use cases for Quarra have fallen under the early-adoption category, where the technology is being used primarily to solve timing and synchronization problems in pro audio kits. For example, Recording Engineer and Founder of FiLO Classical Dave Rowel uses Quarra PTP-aware switches to stabilize traffic clocking and reduce drift to about 15 to 45 nanoseconds, which is well within the range of his RAVENNA-based real-time audio-over-IP system. Overall, Quarra helps him manage several bidirectional connections over varying distances and cable lengths, especially at gigs with 60-plus channels running at a typical speed of 192kHz.

  • Vizrt Unlocks Switcher-Less Studio Automation Workflows

Vizrt Unlocks Switcher-Less Studio Automation Workflows

Vizrt announced the release of Viz Mosart 5.1, the latest update to the leading broadcast studio automation solution, unlocking switcher-less workflows through the new Engine Switcher for Viz Mosart.

Drawing on the power of Viz Engine – the most powerful and versatile broadcast graphics platform in the world – Engine Switcher unlocks the automated production of graphics-centric content and automated scene-based switching without needing a discrete, dedicated switcher.

Through Engine Switcher, entire shows can now be designed as a graphics scene – including video switching – offering simplicity for the journalist by defining show content in the rundown with powerful preset scenes while automating the production with Viz Mosart.

Increasing production flexibility and quality, reducing footprint and costs

For decades, broadcasters have been forced to bend their studio workflows around a single piece of hardware. Dedicated traditional video switchers consume significant power, space, and specialist expertise – increasingly premium resources.

Inspired by developments made during Vizrt’s recent collaboration with German news broadcaster, WELT, and their vision for modern storytelling, Viz Mosart’s Engine Switcher provides automated control of switching functionality directly in the graphics scene. This unlocks powerful and automated production workflows with scene-based switching, providing unique transition flexibility that cannot be easily achieved with a traditional switcher, including automated SDI and SMPTE ST 2110 source switching, clip playback, transitions, DVEs, and rendering of 3D graphics in an integrated and software-defined solution. NDI® source switching will be supported in a future release.

“The best thing we’ve heard is users saying there’s no difference between a real video switcher and the Vizrt [Engine Switcher] software. It’s incredible. The journalists have more direct responsibility for the show, and it gives the day-to-day production more possibilities when putting the show elements together”, says Philipp Kern, Senior Director, WELT.

“By controlling the unique switcher capabilities of Viz Engine, we’ve raised Viz Mosart to a new level of efficiency and flexibility for graphics-centric productions. Each show’s entire look and feel can now be defined in the graphics scene, with dynamic video transitions and graphical elements being handled seamlessly as part of the same automated composition”, says Andy Newton, Senior Product Manager for Viz Mosart, Vizrt.

With Engine Switcher removing the need for a discrete video switcher and unlocking unique switching and transition capabilities, production consistency and quality are increased, while the complexity of the production chain is reduced – keeping setup and running costs under control, reducing environmental impact, and maximizing the operational bandwidth of the production team – without compromising on graphics quality, automation, or video flexibility.

In addition to Engine Switcher, this release introduces HTTPS and FTPS security protocols to further bolster Viz Mosart’s security, adds additional 3rd party device control for routing, audio mixing, and audio playout, and various bugfixes. • Interprefy Releases New Solution Aimed at Resolving Event Audio Issues

Interprefy Releases New Solution Aimed at Resolving Event Audio Issues

Multilingual meeting technology and services provider Interprefy has released a new solution that could potentially rid events of audio issues stemming from bad microphones and hard-to-hear speech.

Announced as an add-on to its event interpretation platform, Interprefy Clarifier applies the science of psychoacoustics to make crucial elements of speech more audible. Key parts of the sound are restored or boosted, ensuring words are simpler and quicker to decipher against factors such as poor-quality microphones and hard-to-hear speech.

“The past two years have demonstrated to us all the value of flexibility and accessibility, but some speaker’s home or remote audio hardware is simply not up to scratch, while they themselves are not always trained in microphone technique and can find it hard to speak clearly and at a measured pace. Interprefy saw it as vital that we did something to redress the situation for interpreters so that they can work at their very best throughout events,” Oddmund Braaten, CEO at Interprefy, said.

Available for listeners and interpreters, Clarifier can be switched on or off by each user within their soft console or user interface. When enabled, each word becomes easier to identify from potentially confusable and similar-sounding terms.

The company says the solution means interpreters need to think less about decoding what they hear and can instead focus on the comprehension and translation of the speech, increasing their speed and accuracy and ultimately reducing stress.

Clarifier is a critical component in Interprefy’s patent-pending audio processing system for live events and has great potential to significantly improve automatic speech-to-text captions accuracy in inferior sound conditions.

“We’re focusing on the clarity of the spoken word. When an interpreter is trying to decode what a speaker is saying, we know that certain characteristics of the sound are absolutely vital. Clarifier is able to pick out the fleeting and fragile parts of speech – the sibilant, plosive and transient components – and maximize their audibility. The wonderful way the brain works is that with these key components secured, the other parts become clearer too,” Braaten said.

The audio quality issue came to a head recently when interpreters at the European Parliament went on strike, citing issues related to listening to poor audio from off-site meeting participants.

“Being an interpreter is one of the hardest, most stressful jobs in the world, and the least they expect is to be given good enough audio to be able to do their jobs. So, although what we’re providing might sound like a small factor, it can make a huge difference to the delivery of interpretation services for conferences, discussions, presentations, and business meetings,” Braaten concluded
