AVWeek 635: Killing Penguins

The Future Of Displays

No animals were harmed in the making of this podcast. Probably. What’s more concrete are the biggest news and stories from the commercial side of the AV industry. Joining us this week is Building Technology Designer for HGA Kelly Teel, Ampthinker for Ampthink Rebecca Sullins, and Associate Director of Classroom Technology for Vanderbilt University BC Hatchett. We first look at Project Primrose, a display technology shown off at Adobe MAX 2023. There was an exceptional demonstration of polymer-dispersed liquid crystal display through a changing dress worn by Christine Dierk, showcasing the non-emissive technology. Other than just being outright amazing, what other applications could this be used in the display space? Discussing the possibilities of low-power material. Key Digital has a new wireless extender. The KD-4KWHCEX doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, but more importantly its ability to extend 4K HDMI signals speaks for itself. However, we seem to be at a tipping point for data being thrown across networks and the sheer size of said data. Will there be a bubble? How important is that 4K60 signal in different situations? Looking at where wireless video becomes a matter of want vs. need. Shure is improving their energy efficient at global facilities. This comes off the heels of World Energy Efficiency Day, where the company has announced their latest updates on reducing their footprint. Due to the ever-changing world of technology, sustainability can be a serious problem. New tech becomes outdated at an alarming rate, causing solutions to be tossed aside. Is there anything as an industry we can do to combat this?
