Life In The Fast Lane
Even though InfoComm 2023 looms in the distance like a colossal mountain, the news doesn’t stop. Which is why we’re here to discuss the latest news and stories for the residential side of the AV industry. Joining us this week is Founder of Livewire Henry Clifford and Owner of KMB Communications Katye McGregor-Bennett.
Amazon has expanded and enhanced their line of Echo products, introducing the Echo Pop and Echo Show 5. The latter product has not only the 3rd generation model, but also a new product specifically for kids. Putting aside the report in 2022 about Amazon projected to lose $10 billion due to the voice assistant Alexa, is there potential in these solutions? Perhaps our potential runs afoul with the “for kids” side of things. We look at what this means for Amazon.
Originally planned for October of this year, The Home Tech Expo has been rescheduled to October 2024 in order to give exhibitors more time to plan and budget their participation. We had a discussion about this show’s announcement a few weeks back when Uncle Richie took the helm. We discuss the opportunity for this show to be a way to showcase our industry in front of end-users.
Finally, we look at an article by one Henry Clifford about the dangers of a “Warp-Zone” employee. To paraphrase his analogy, it refers to an employee that believes their latent talent is blocked off by their lack of a promotion or extra payment. We discuss the balance of work output and how much that talent is worth (literally and figuratively) and attempt to dance around the use of a generational term for the workforce.
