ResiWeek 399: Who’s A Good Actor?

AI As A Tool

We’re starting off the spooky season right by giving everyone watching the video a jumpscare via beardless Matt. But regardless of the facial hair (or lack thereof) of our host, we are striving to bring you the biggest news and stories for the residential side of the AV industry. Joining us this week is Senior Editor for CE Pro Bob Archer and Managing Partner for bluesalve partners Avi Rosenthal.

We have the numbers for the recently held CEDIA Expo 2023. The show gathered 12,848 industry professionals, up from last year’s 11,946. It’s no surprise that in this post-pandemic world trade shows are growing again. But now with Emerald hosting their Commercial Integrator Expo in tandem with CEDIA Expo, will that number grow even more? Is there enough interest to have a show for both residential and commercial? Breaking down the numbers and what it means for both shows moving forward.

Henry Clifford writes about different artificial intelligence tools that integrators can utilize for their business. AI has become such a buzzword in the past few years that some systems aren’t even actually AI despite using the name. But rather than have that etymological argument, we look at how these tools can be used for integrators. Can we use AI without the whole ‘overlording over human civilization’ thing?

Finally, D-Tools has published their 2023 Midyear Market Health Report. As the name would imply, it measures the data of the residential space for the year and delivers actionable metrics for those in the business. Custom integration firms had their revenues fall in the first half of the year. We look at what integrators can do with this knowledge and leverage their business as the year continues.
