Modern Atomics has expanded its award-winning line of AI-enhanced power distribution units (PDUs) for motorized window shades by launching two new models: Neutron™ and Tokamak™. These innovations build on the success of the original Reaktor™ PDU, which powers up to 22 Somfy motors and has gained industry recognition from CEDIA and major AV publications. Neutron adds compatibility with more motors and platforms like Lutron, Crestron, and Matter, while Tokamak functions as a standalone power source or can boost large multi-shade systems. Both products feature AI technology that significantly reduces wasted power.
To support the expanded product line and growing demand, Modern Atomics has strengthened its North American sales presence with a wide network of independent rep firms across key regions. The company’s founders Paul Bryson, Tim Marshall, and Michael Braithwaite, bring decades of experience from top AV and control brands. With their compact design, solar compatibility, and energy-saving capabilities, Modern Atomics’ PDUs are set to make large-scale smart shading systems more efficient and easier to install for residential and commercial projects alike.
Modern Atomics has added two new power distribution units (PDU’s) to its line and has beefed-up its North American independent sales representative network accordingly. The Texas tech startup launched last year with its Reaktor™ PDU for motorized window shades (for Somfy motors). For its vast installation and use innovations, the PDU received Best New Product awards from the Custom Electronics Design & Installation Association (CEDIA), and trade publications Commercial Integrator, Residential Systems, and TWICE Magazines.
The company is now launching Neutron™ — an enhanced version of Reaktor compatible with more motors and control platforms such as Lutron and Crestron — and Tokamak™, a dual-purpose power supply, honored this month with a Commercial Integrator Magazine Best Award. “Powering 22-shades, Reaktor is being used in large residential projects and MDU’s. With the expanded integration capabilities that Neutron and Tokamak bring, partnering with firms that represent shade fabrication brands like Draper at Home, Lutron, Savant, and Wolf Drapery, best serves dealers,” says Modern Atomics Chairperson Michael Braithwaite. Representing Modern Atomics in the following North American territories are: -Access Reps (New England, Upstate New York) -Balaton Marketing (Mid Atlantic) -Connected Sales and Marketing (Pacific Northwest) -Ebony TriStar (Ontario, Quebec, Maritimes) -Hi-Tech Sales & Marketing (Midwest) -J&G Audio Sales (Metro New York) -LK & Associates (Florida, Puerto Rico) -Morris Tait Associates (So. Overview of the Product Lineup Reaktor (MSRP starts at $1,499) can power up to 22 Somfy RS485 SDN low voltage motors. These are commonly used in Alta, BTX, Clara, Corradi, Draper, Graber, Peachtree, Proseo, Rowley, Savant, Screen Innovations, Sol-Lux, SunSetter, Texton, Universal Window Coverings, and Wolf Drapery shade systems. Neutron (MSRP starts at $1,899) is an expanded version of Reaktor. It adds a faster and more powerful energy storage system which allows it to work with a wider universe of motors such as Lutron and Creston. It is also compatible with all Matter, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Sub-GHz RF wireless control platforms. Both PDU’s leverage the company’s patented AI power supply technology that eliminates up to 99.75% of idle (normally wasted) electrical current, saving hundreds of Kilowatt-hours per shade/per year. Powering is achieved via a passive DC injector or a Somfy 24V inline BUS power supply connected to the shades via CAT 5 cable and RJ45. Other powering options include Modern Atomics’ Solar Panel kit or compatible Tesla Solar Roof & panels. Tokamak (MSRP starts at $1,299) is a dual-purpose power supply which as a standalone unit can power up to 10-shades. If mated with Reaktor, Neutron or Collider™ power supplies in large systems (up to 192 shades) it harvests power and removes all the DC injectors from the system which drives all the motors efficiently.
With their compact sizes, wall/rack mount capabilities and easy plug-and-play setup processes, each of the Modern Atomics PDU’s reduce installation space and deployment time by over 50%.
Co-founders Paul Bryson (CTO), Tim Marshall (CFO), and Michael Braithwaite (Chairperson) lead Modern Atomics. They are known for having developed innovative technologies for NetStreams, and holding key posts at AMX, ClearOne, Crestron and Screen Innovations. In 2024 Braithwaite was recognized by Commercial Integrator Magazine as a Living Legend (#45).
