Matrox Video Brings IPMX and KVM Capabilities to IBC 2026

At IBC 2026, AVNation’s Tim Albright chatted with Alberto Cieri, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Matrox Video, about the company’s expanding focus on broadcast AV and its latest developments around AV-over-IP.

Matrox introduced MGX at the show, a new product supporting Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX). Cieri explained that the move reflects a growing convergence between broadcast and professional AV, with Matrox seeing more AV customers and applications entering the broadcast space.

A key focus for MGX is High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) within IPMX. The solution supports 4K video with 4:4:4 capabilities while targeting very low latency. Cieri described the performance as approximately one frame, while also highlighting the ability to operate over a 1Gb network.

“It’s very easy for our SI or any customers to integrate it within their networks. It’ll run on a 1 gig network.”

For system integrators, the lower bandwidth requirement is one of the more notable aspects of the approach. Cieri said the technology uses significantly less bandwidth than what is typically seen in AV applications, potentially making network integration simpler for customers moving toward AV-over-IP.

Matrox is also demonstrating new Keyboard, Video and Mouse (KVM) functionality with MGX. The demonstration shows a decoder controlling an encoder located elsewhere in the system, giving users keyboard and mouse control alongside video.

The company is also highlighting Matrix IQ, a software-based solution aimed at customers looking for even lower latency. It runs on appliances using Intel and Nvidia graphics processing units. Cieri explained that customers can use other IPMX-compatible appliances with HEVC, while the lowest latency performance requires both Matrox encoders and decoders.

Matrox’s longer-term approach is also centered on software. Cieri said the company intends to make the software available to other manufacturers, supporting its goal of keeping IPMX open and cost-effective.

The conversation reflects the broader convergence between broadcast and professional AV that is becoming increasingly visible at IBC. For AV integrators and technology teams, MGX highlights how IPMX can be applied to high-quality video, low-latency workflows, KVM control and network-based AV systems.
