Ross Video Introduces Ultrix FR30 at IBC 2026

Ross Video introduced the Ultrix FR30 at IBC 2026, expanding its hyperconverged media infrastructure platform for larger-scale production environments. In an interview with AVNation’s Tim Albright, Brian Davies also discussed Vertex, projection mapping and Ross Video’s broader approach to connecting production technologies.

“The biggest complaint we had about it is that people were filling it,” Davies said of the existing Ultrix platform. The new FR30 is Ross Video’s largest Ultrix system yet, with the company positioning it for enterprise-scale broadcast, sports, outside broadcast, corporate and media environments. Ross says the 30RU platform supports up to 576×576 UHD input/output in a single chassis.

In the interview, Davies described the FR30 as a central platform for large facilities, with more than 500 by 500 video routing and thousands of audio sources when Dante and MADI mixes are included. The company’s reference material also describes the FR30 as combining routing, processing, multiviewing, audio, production switching, screen processing and control within a software-defined platform.

Another focus at the Ross Video booth was Vertex, which made its IBC debut following its acquisition by Ross Video. Vertex is a media server production suite aimed at experiential applications, with capabilities spanning video, audio, lighting and control. Ross lists applications including sports venues, live events, museums, exhibits and projection mapping.

Davies highlighted a projection-mapping example based on an ice hockey experience at Munich’s SNS Arena. The application demonstrates how Ross Video is moving beyond traditional broadcast environments and into experiences where video becomes part of the physical environment.

The conversation also covered Ross Video’s wider ecosystem, including Carbonite, the TD5 control surface, XPression graphics and DashBoard. Davies pointed to DashBoard as a way of simplifying complex workflows, allowing users to create straightforward controls for actions such as displaying live data or switching cameras.
