Modern Atomics “Powers-Up” All Motorized Shade Motors at CEDIA Expo

Modern Atomics is showcasing its innovative AI-powered power distribution units (PDUs) at the CEDIA Expo, designed to enhance the performance of motorized shade motors from leading brands like Somfy, Matter, Zigbee, and Bluetooth. Their solutions, including the Reaktor and Neutron models, provide energy-efficient operation by eliminating up to 99.75% of wasted electrical current. These PDUs, with prices starting from $1,499, offer compact designs, easy setup, and can support up to 22 motors, reducing energy consumption significantly.

Additionally, Modern Atomics introduced Collider, a high-performance PDU built for PoE motors, capable of delivering 90 watts of power to 16 ports simultaneously with redundant power options. This unit, shipping in December, will be available for $2,999. The Tokamak model further streamlines setups, supporting up to 10 motors and reducing wiring complexity in large systems. Modern Atomics’ continued innovation positions them as leaders in efficient energy management for the AV industry.

At Expo (#C1120) Modern Atomics is demonstrating its growing ecosystem of Ai-enhanced power distribution units driving 485, PoE, Zigbee, Matter, and SubGHz motors – all smartly controlled by Bond. In addition, BTX Intelligent Fashion (4404), Draper at Home (3720), Screen Innovations (2533), and Wolf Drapery (C1120) all incorporate Modern Atomics in their exhibits.

Modern Atomics made big news last year with its first solution, Reaktor. This powers 22 Somfy RS485 SDN low voltage motors. Modern Atomics’ patented AI power supply technology eliminates up to 99.75% of normally wasted idle electrical current, saving hundreds of Kilowatt-hours per shade/per year. Additional benefits include compact wall/rack-mountable design and easy setup. MSRP starts at $1,499.

New from the company is Neutron. An expanded version of Reaktor — complete with all its benefits — Neutron powers up to 22 low voltage shade motors from most popular brands including Matter, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Sub-GHz RF or 24V 485. Shipping in October, MSRP starts at $1,899.

With the future of PoE in mind, Modern Atomics introduces Collider. Built upon Reaktor, the first available version will be a half-rack one-Kilowatt 16 port Gigabit bt++ switch for PoE motors. This PDU offers redundant AC and Solar power options, can re-generate its own power, and can hold stored energy for 3-weeks. And each of its 16-ports can generate 90-watts of power simultaneously. No networking expertise is required to install. Shipping in December, MSRP starts at $2,999.

Also new is Tokamak, a dual-purpose power supply that drives up to 10 shades (485 or RF motors). If mated with larger Modern Atomics PDUs in big systems (up to 192 shades), Tokamak provides the DC power for up to 8 PDU’s. This eliminates the need for each PDU to have a separate DC injector, saving space and cables, and reducing required AC outlets from 8 to 1. Shipping now, MSRP starts at $1,299.

Modern Atomics is led by co-founders Paul Bryson (CTO), Tim Marshall (CFO), and Michael Braithwaite (Chairperson). They are known for having developed innovative technologies for NetStreams, and holding key posts at AMX, ClearOne, Crestron and Screen Innovations. In 2024 Braithwaite was recognized by Commercial Integrator Magazine as a Living Legend (#45).
