“We are showcasing a diverse range of technology at InfoComm this year, highlighting the various audio families we continually develop and evolve with market needs,” said Matt Czyzewski, Executive Vice President of AtlasIED. “Our focus is on our ongoing commitment to expand our industry-renowned offerings. InfoComm is always filled with passion and excitement, and we look forward to sharing that experience again this year.”

  • Watermark Community Church Brings Congregation Together with L-Acoustics L-ISA Hyperreal Sound and L Series

Watermark Community Church Brings Congregation Together with L-Acoustics L-ISA Hyperreal Sound and L Series

Watermark Community Church, founded in 1999 as a nondenominational evangelical house of worship seeking to “abide in Jesus, make disciples, and enjoy life together,” has since launched several new campuses, today serving over 9,000 weekly attendants. The church has always understood that the clarity of its message – both literally and conceptually – relies in large part on sound quality. For years it has been an L-Acoustics user, starting with a Kudo PA system that served them well for more than a decade. This January, Watermark headed into its next chapter with the adoption of L-ISA Hyperreal Sound technology with L-Acoustics L Series loudspeakers, sold and installed by Clark, an integration company based in Alpharetta, Georgia.

“Watermark is definitely unique,” says Clark Business Development Executive Noah Hawley. “The moment you walk in, you are riveted by the church’s nearly 100-foot-wide video wall made up of more than 1,000 half-meter-square LED tiles. And that massive scale is indicative of how they approach music and video production – there’s a lot of creative horsepower at work there. But amazing visuals aside, the single most important element in a house of worship is the sound, being able to effectively communicate the message to everyone in attendance. This is why they stayed with L-Acoustics and chose L-ISA and L Series – for the exceptional coverage, consistency, and clarity that these technologies deliver.”

The church’s recent switch to L-ISA paired with L Series arrays has provided improved intelligibility and fidelity throughout the entire seating area. The main Scene system is comprised of five arrays of one L2 over one L2D. Four Extension arrays to the far left and right are made up of Kiva II, with eight enclosures per hang closer to the Scene system and seven enclosures per hang further out. Arrays of 10 Kara II each provide out-fill, with low-end coming from a center deployment of 10 KS28 subs flown in two hangs of five KS28 in cardioid mode.

Seventeen compact coaxial X8 enclosures are evenly distributed across the lip of the stage for spatial front-fill, while three KS21i subs per side are mounted into the face of the stage to supplement the room’s low end. Arrays of two A15i Wide per side provide extreme left and right over-balcony delay, while a dozen X8 serve as under-balcony delays. The entire system is powered and processed by 16 LA7.16i amplified controllers and three LA12X. These are driven via Milan-AVB with L-Acoustics LS10 switches, while an L-ISA Processor II with a 64-output license is driven over MADI from the church’s SSL L350 Plus FOH console.

Hawley says the sanctuary’s acoustics are magnificent. “Coupled with the acoustics and L-ISA, for the first time everybody could see, wow, this is how the room is designed to be heard,” he says. “This is what the intended experience was supposed to be. Now the room’s complete, the vision’s been accomplished.”

“While I think most people don’t really understand what a spatial system does, they do know that it sounds clear and amazing, which is what we were shooting for,” says Bekah Winans, Watermark Community Church’s Audio Director. “They’re now able to pick out distinct instruments instead of just hearing a wall of sound. For them to say that it sounds fantastic means we’ve accomplished our goal to become more engaging.”

She adds that the use of L-ISA technology has dramatically expanded sound coverage in the room, with at least 80 percent of the seating areas getting a fully immersive experience. “One of the main things that we kept hearing from our leadership was that they wanted consistency of the sound. They wanted the largest number of seats in the house to have the same great, immersive experience as possible,” she says. “And they do!”

Operationally, L-ISA easily integrates into the church’s workflow, and can be controlled via either an external L-ISA Controller display or directly from a touchscreen of the SSL house desk. “Some of our operators prefer to use the L-ISA software interface, while others use the integrated L-ISA page on the console, so it comes down to preference, but the integration has been seamless,” says Hudson Horsley, the church’s Systems Engineer. “At first, I think it can be a little bit intimidating, but once people hear it and get used to working with it, it’s quite easy and intuitive. It has simplified the workflow, with less effects in the chain, by using the room engine. The team has adapted to it rapidly.”

The greatest accomplishment has been the enhanced sense of community with L-ISA making the venue feel more intimate. “Whereas a lot of other systems divert attention to the speakers, L-ISA pulls your attention to the stage, and connects the audience with the communicator. It really gives everyone a sense of being more engaged with what’s happening on stage.”

With its softly contoured cabinet, luxurious finishes, and emotionally engaging performance, Pumori delivers a transcendent listening experience grounded in heritage and beauty.

Summit Ama: Clarity in Compact Form
Derived from Ama Dablam, one of the Himalayas’ most iconic and picturesque peaks whose name means “Mother’s Necklace,” the Summit Ama is a compact masterpiece designed to reveal the heart of the music. This 2-way stand-mount loudspeaker pairs an 8-inch HC4 cone woofer with a D2 compression driver and HDI™ horn to deliver exceptional clarity, control, and coherence across the frequency spectrum. The Summit Ama’s elegant cabinet rests on a matching steel-and-aluminum stand.

    Timeless Design, Legendary Craftsmanship
From their finely sculpted enclosures to the luxurious finishes, each Summit Series loudspeaker is crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Cabinets are heavily braced, softly contoured, and built to eliminate resonance. Binding posts are wrapped in carbon fiber and plated in rhodium. JBL’s proprietary MultiCap™ crossover network ensures purity and performance throughout the entire audio chain. Each model integrates JBL IsoAcoustics™ adjustable isolation feet — ensuring that its sound remains as pure as the mountain that inspired it. These loudspeakers are not just engineered — they are artfully crafted for those who view listening as a pursuit of something greater.

The new additions to the JBL Summit Series will be globally available later in 2025 through authorized JBL retailers and partners. The recommended retail prices are $19,995 USD per pair for the JBL Summit Ama including stands, $29,995 USD for a pair of JBL Summit Pumori and $44,995 USD for a set of JBL Summit Makalu, respectively.

  • Renkus-Heinz delivers crystal clear sound to the rooftop of The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills

Renkus-Heinz delivers crystal clear sound to the rooftop of The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills

The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills stands as a beacon of luxury and refinement, nestled in the heart of one of Los Angeles’ most iconic neighborhoods. Famed for its blend of classic British elegance and modern Californian style, the hotel offers a range of upscale amenities, from its acclaimed Boxwood restaurant to its exclusive rooftop pool. However, the crown jewel of this property is its West End Rooftop, a sprawling 107 ft by 40 ft open-air space that serves as a prime venue for high-profile events, weddings, and corporate functions.

Framed by a glass wall showcasing sweeping ocean views from Long Beach to the Malibu peninsula, the rooftop terrace is illuminated by spectacular sunsets and is a favorite among guests seeking a one-of-a-kind experience. However, alongside the picturesque appeal and vibrant atmosphere, event sound frequently spilled beyond the property, creating friction with nearby residents and leading to repeated noise complaints. To address these issues without compromising the venue’s reputation, the hotel turned to Russ DuBrow at Electronic Technology for a transformative audio solution.

The partnership — centered on the installation of Renkus-Heinz’s innovative IC Live X Series (ICLX) loudspeakers — resulted in an acoustic upgrade that not only preserved the venue’s prestige but also fostered harmony with the surrounding community. “Guests come to The London expecting a premium experience, and that includes sound quality,” explains DuBrow. “At the same time, we needed to respect the community by eliminating noise spillover. Balancing these needs was our top priority.”

The primary goal for the new system was to deliver a premium audio experience concentrated entirely within the rooftop’s boundaries. “I knew I could meet the hotel’s goals with fewer speakers than the previous installation done 10+ years ago. Recent technology gave me the tools to create the experience the client desired and bring the loudspeaker count down from eight to four. This provided superior sound quality and aesthetically complemented the venue while being cost-effective.”

Renkus-Heinz’s IC Live X Series loudspeakers, known for their precision and adaptability, were selected to address the hotel’s unique requirements. These loudspeakers feature steerable technology that allows sound to be precisely directed, ensuring maximum coverage within the designated event space while preventing sound spillage.

Four ICLX units were mounted along the wall at intervals of 25 ft, each placed 12 ft above the ground. The system was designed to provide one seamless zone of audio, ensuring even sound distribution throughout the rooftop. Complementing the ICLX loudspeakers are two SA112 subwoofers, which provide deep and impactful bass. The entire system was configured using Renkus-Heinz’s RHAON II platform, a powerful digital tool that enables precise adjustments to EQ settings, delay, and SPL placement. By digitally steering the sound using Renkus-Heinz’s OmniBeam software and tailoring it to the venue’s acoustic characteristics, the installation team created a system capable of delivering clarity, power, and control.

“The IC Live X speakers allowed us to direct sound exactly where we needed: below the glass walls while concentrating the sound in the approximate middle while completely avoiding areas where it wasn’t wanted,” said DuBrow. “This level of control was critical for solving the noise complaints that had been an ongoing issue.”

The upgraded audio system has transformed the rooftop experience at The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills. Complaints from neighbors have virtually disappeared, and the hotel has not faced further issues with city noise ordinances. Guests and event organizers have praised the improved sound quality, noting its clarity and balance even during high-energy events. DJs and performers benefit from the system’s adaptability, as it provides exceptional audio for both live music and spoken word presentations.

“The difference is night and day,” DuBrow concludes. “Not only does the system deliver incredible sound for guests, but it also keeps the hotel out of trouble with neighbors and city authorities. It’s a win for everyone involved. The IC Live X Series gave us the tools to create something special, and the London Hotel rooftop is now a space that impresses guests and respects the community. That’s exactly what we set out to achieve.”

  • Sync Systems Elevates Luxury Sonoma Estate Featuring Full Size Pickleball Court with Coastal Source Outdoor Audio

Sync Systems Elevates Luxury Sonoma Estate Featuring Full Size Pickleball Court with Coastal Source Outdoor Audio

When designing and constructing this luxurious home in Sonoma, California, the homebuilder was on a mission to create a masterpiece that seamlessly blended the finest craftsmanship, breathtaking location, and elegant architecture. Positioned on 17 acres of prime real estate overlooking a picturesque vineyard, the estate is a true showstopper. It quickly caught the attention of a discerning family, drawn not only to the stunning interiors but also to the exceptional outdoor amenities.

Shaded pathways lead to a private recreation center featuring a yoga studio, a full kitchen, and an inviting outdoor dining area. Nearby, a sparkling swimming pool and pickleball courts offer endless opportunities for relaxation and activity. A stroll further down the path reveals a beautifully converted barn, adding to the estate’s charm. The only thing missing? Music.

As the recreational spaces were being landscaped, the builder turned to Sync Systems to integrate an outdoor audio system that would match the home’s level of sophistication. Having already installed low-voltage systems inside the residence, the Sync Systems team was deeply familiar with the property. While experienced in outdoor audio applications, they took this project a step further by bringing in Coastal Source for premium audio solutions.

“We’ve used other brands of outdoor speakers in the past, and within a year, their finishes start to fade—turning from a rich architectural brown to an unattractive, cheap-looking gray. With a project this elaborate, we knew we needed to find beautiful and durable fixtures, so we called Coastal Source,” said a Sync Systems president Mike Camotta.

“The owners admired the refined elegance of the Coastal Source speakers. With their solid brass housings designed to withstand the elements without tarnishing or fading, we were delighted to offer an outdoor audio solution that would stand the test of time,” says Camotta. “The versatile performance and seamless installation ease of Coastal Source speakers presented an added layer of value to the project. ”

He explains that while traditional 70-volt outdoor speakers can cover large areas, they often fall short in delivering an immersive, two-channel listening experience. “With Coastal Source, you get the best of both worlds—wide, even coverage for expansive areas like the pickleball courts and a more focused, high-fidelity two-channel setup for intimate spaces like the yoga studio and outdoor dining area.”

For the initial installation, Sync Systems concentrated on the estate’s main recreational spaces, strategically placing 12 Modulus bullet speakers throughout the landscape. To enhance the depth and richness of the sound, they also integrated subwoofers in key locations—especially beneficial when the family gathers to watch movies on one of two outdoor TVs.

While the expertise of the Sync Systems team played a crucial role in achieving a flawless result, they also relied heavily on Coastal Source’s renowned design service for their first installation of this kind. “The support from Coastal Source’s design team was a major factor in our decision to partner with them,” Camotta says. Coastal Source was fully invested in Sync Systems’ success, providing product specifications and a detailed design blueprint. “We sent them the landscape plans, and they handled the rest—delivering everything we needed, down to the low-voltage wiring, to complete the job. The level of support they provided was truly invaluable, especially when integrating a new product line.”

To further streamline the installation, Coastal Source pre-programmed the EQ settings for the amplifiers, saving both time and effort. “With the amplification preset, there was no need to adjust speaker positioning or fine-tune amp settings—it was essentially a plug-and-play setup, effortlessly delivering perfect sound from the moment it was switched on without any fuss or hassle,” Camotta explains. If a new speaker ever needs to be added or relocated, Coastal Source can simply download a new EQ file to the amp, ensuring seamless system expansion.

Coastal Source’s innovative cabling architecture further streamlined the installation process, eliminating unnecessary complexity and ensuring a seamless setup. “No splicing is required—the cabling features adapters that simply twist and lock into place on the speakers. This was a huge time saver,” Camotta explains.

The true measure of the project’s success, however, came from the homeowners’ reaction. During the final walk-through, they were so immersed in the experience that they didn’t even notice the Coastal Source speakers even as music played throughout the property. “I actually had to point them out!” Camotta recalls.

With the installation complete, the Sonoma estate now boasts an outdoor audio system that matches its elegance and sophistication. Sync Systems’ expertise, combined with Coastal Source’s premium solutions, has created an immersive, high-performance audio experience that seamlessly blends into the estate’s breathtaking landscape. Whether enjoying a quiet yoga session, dining under the stars, or getting a workout playing pickleball, the homeowners can now experience rich, high-fidelity sound in every corner of their outdoor retreat. This project not only elevates the estate’s luxury but also showcases the power of expert design and superior technology in transforming outdoor living spaces.

  • Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall Delight Touring Artists and Audiences with L-Acoustics K Series Concert Sound System

Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall Delight Touring Artists and Audiences with L-Acoustics K Series Concert Sound System

Even if they have never set foot inside the venue, millions of music and movie fans are familiar with the historic Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall, which has hosted awards galas, concert recordings, and film shoots over the past century. Celebrating 100 years in 2026, the landmark venue is now wowing audiences with a new L-Acoustics professional sound system designed and supplied by 3G Productions.

This state-of-the-art L-Acoustics installation at the Shrine joins a growing network of premium sound systems across AEG’s concert venues nationwide. The audio upgrade aligns with similar L-Acoustics deployments at other mid-sized AEG Presents venues, including the recently opened Pinnacle in Nashville, Atlanta’s 2,300-capacity The Eastern, Brooklyn’s 1,800-capacity Brooklyn Steel, and Boston’s 3,500-capacity Roadrunner. This strategic standardization across properties reflects AEG’s commitment to world-class sound quality and technical rider compliance throughout their diverse portfolio of performance spaces.

“The Shrine’s top requirements of a new PA were that it deliver both impeccable sound and exceptional coverage,” explains Jerrod Cring, Director of AVLI at 3G Productions in Las Vegas. “Also important was versatility and being able to use the system in all the different configurations that they have in the Expo Hall and the Auditorium. Based on those things, the L-Acoustics system was a perfect fit for them and is performing incredibly well.”

The sibling venues, located just southwest of downtown Los Angeles next to the University of Southern California, have been managed by Goldenvoice, a division of Los Angeles-based global sports and music entertainment presenter AEG, since 2013.

The system, meticulously crafted for the 54,000-square-foot Expo Hall with a capacity for 5,000 attendees, was engineered using L-Acoustics Soundvision 3D audio prediction software. Designed with versatility in mind, the system was delivered as a fully portable setup – housed in touring-grade carts and cases – allowing for seamless storage when not in use and effortless relocation to the 6,300-seat Auditorium as needed. “The Expo Hall has hosted everything from a four-day LCD Soundsystem residency to Charli XCX, The SAG Awards, and high profile corporate functions,” Cring notes, highlighting the system’s adaptability across diverse programming.

For the Expo Hall, 3G Productions designed an L-Acoustics system featuring two main hangs of 12 K2 per side, each with three Kara II for down-fill. “We designed the system with portability and flexibility in mind,” he explains. “The two K2 arrays are hung from motors, just like they would be on a touring show. The motorized rigging allows them to be lowered, secured on carts, and relocated with the same efficiency as a touring production.” The same philosophy extends to the KS28 subs, all of which are equipped with dedicated dollies for mobility. The 15 subs are typically arranged in five clusters of three in a cardioid configuration, with each subwoofer cluster topped by a single Kara II for front-fill. A pair of A15 Focus on either side of the stage provides out-fill under the venue’s deep balcony.

“On the upper balcony, we provided two rolling chariots with two KS21 subs and an A15 Focus each,” he continues. These versatile units can be seamlessly repositioned as stage side-fills or deployed for outdoor festivals across the Shrine’s grounds – their integrated mobility making them instantly performance-ready.” Halfway back in the Expo Hall, two hangs of six Kara II each provide delay coverage: “These arrays, suspended from motors and supported by bespoke carts, ensure consistent audio quality throughout the entire space.”

As with a regular touring rig, power is supplied via LA-RAK II units loaded with LA12X amplified controllers. A P1 processor in a drive rack at FOH runs the system, with everything networked over Milan-AVB. “At the same time, we also supplied a DiGiCo Quantum225 as a house mixing console. While our rental division can provide any artist-specific console requirements, this installation offers venues a high-performance mixing solution that is ready for immediate deployment during events requiring streamlined technical specifications.” Cring says.

The Shrine, a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument on the National Register of Historic Places, has been a global entertainment landmark since 1926. This iconic venue has hosted major televised events, including the Grammy Awards, Academy Awards, and Emmy Awards, as well as memorable concerts by Ray Charles, the Grateful Dead, and Genesis. Film productions, including King Kong (1933) and A Star Is Born (1954 and 2018), utilized the Auditorium’s stage – North America’s largest proscenium, capable of accommodating 1,200 people.

The L-Acoustics system offers full reconfigurability for Shrine Auditorium shows. “We provided Kara II down-bumpers to extend the K2 arrays for front seat coverage,” Cring elaborates. “Components from the Expo Hall delays can be repurposed as a center-fill of five Kara II.” The Auditorium setup requires fewer subs to maintain clear sightlines. The remaining speaker enclosures can be used for lip-fill and in-fill across the wide stage.

3G Productions’ roots as a traditional production company have organically evolved into integration expertise,” Cring observes. “Clients seek our integration services because of our deep production knowledge. Our unique position at the intersection of production and integration creates distinctive value – a specialized approach where L-Acoustics has proven to be an ideal partner for both divisions.”

  • Florida’s King Center Upgrades to JBL VTX Loudspeakers

Florida’s King Center Upgrades to JBL VTX Loudspeakers

As Brevard County’s premier performing arts venue, the Maxwell C. King Center has served the community for 37 years, hosting everything from Broadway tours to legendary rock icons. Located in Central Florida, the King Center is the only venue within over 50 miles equipped to accommodate national touring productions, making it an essential cultural hub for the region.

The heart of the multi-venue facility, the 2,016-seat L3 Harris Technologies Theatre, is an acoustically live space with a wide fan shape and a spacious mezzanine level, designed to host a wide variety of events. By 2024, the previous JBL Professional sound system, now 20 years old, had served its time. Recognizing the need to stay ahead in delivering unparalleled experiences for audiences, the decision was made to upgrade the sound system.

The variety of events, including Broadway shows, rock concerts, ballets, and more, demands a system capable of delivering pristine sound for anything. The King Center turned to trusted partner APAV Solutions for the upgrade. This three-year project, overseen by Rob Adams, Director of Facilities, and the venue’s dedicated technicians, including Ed Guilbeau, House Audio Technician at the King Center, involved upgrading amplifiers and engineering a new steel beam to support the load of the cutting-edge JBL VTX Series loudspeakers. Their tireless efforts ensured the installation met the venue’s exacting standards for excellence.

Craig Beyrooti, CEO of APAV Solutions, led the design process. “I designed the system in JBL’s Venue Synthesis software only a few days after it had come out. I added a few boxes more than had been in the previous system, just for coverage, not power. There’s way enough power there,” Beyrooti explains. “Then, of course, I spoke with the team at JBL Professional, had them review the design, and we did a little more tweaking. For instance, we ended up flying some subs in the center.” The project benefited from the collaborative approach. “APAV was great to work with. It was a group effort, and we were able to work through each idea for the best solution all around” Guilbeau comments.

The main system consists of two flown arrays, each constituted of eight VTX A12 Dual 12-inch Line Array Loudspeakers and two VTX A12W 120-Degree Dispersion Dual 12-inch Line Array Loudspeakers. Six VTX B28 Arrayable Dual-18-inch Subwoofers are flown in a center array that has two cabinets reversed in order to produce a cardioid dispersion pattern. The system is powered by 28 Crown I-Tech 12000HD amplifiers, plus four Crown I-Tech 4x3500HD amps. The addition of more high-power amplifiers necessitated adding some capacity to the electrical service.

The installation process was collaborative and smooth, though not without its challenges. “The theater has a full orchestra shell made of metal, and the whole space is designed to reinforce acoustical sound coming out of the shell,” Beyrooti notes. “With the last system, I moved the speakers further on stage and away from the

corner where there would be really horrible reflections. This time, I had them move the speakers a bit further in and remove two of the reflector panels that were directly above the arrays to avoid a bounce from above.”

The width of the room had previously been addressed by situating three VTX A8 Dual 8-inch Compact Line Array Loudspeakers with 110º Dispersion stacked on top of a B18 Arrayable Single 18-inch Subwoofer on each side of the stage. The addition of the VTX A12W cabinets provided much greater wide coverage than had been previously delivered, but the A8 cabinets were kept to ensure the best possible coverage out to the sides.

The A12 arrays provided plenty of power and coverage all the way to the back of the room, including the mezzanine. The previous system had four AM4212/95 Two-Way Loudspeakers for the last few rows, but since their role was minimal, removing or replacing them seemed more trouble than it was worth. Instead, they were left in place and remained in use. “They’re barely working. Honestly, if they were turned off, the people sitting back there would still think it sounded pretty amazing given how far back they are,” states Beyrooti.

Beyrooti received more support from JBL Professional to get the new system properly tuned, in the form of Applications Engineer Raul Gonzalez, who had helped Beyrooti tune the last system he’d installed years before and now rejoined Beyrooti to finalize the upgrade installation.

With the upgrade complete, the King Center is ready to deliver an unmatched audio experience for its audiences. “It’s all about coverage here, and this system just nails it down,” Guilbeau glows. “When we host things like a ballet with an open orchestra pit, we used to have problems with the upfront coverage; the sound would go right over the heads of the first three rows past the pit. Now we’re covered almost overlapping into the pit. Everyone that’s come in since the install has commented that the coverage is exquisite. The system really fits the room; it’s nice.”

“It’s a great system; it really is,” concurs Shop Steward Mark Brasel. “I notice the difference with coverage so much better now from the back of the balcony all the way down to those first couple seats. It’s really even across the board.”

As an aside, Beyrooti admits to being particularly pleased at how well things turned out because he has a personal stake in it, as well as APAV’s interests. “I live 10 minutes from the King Center, and that’s where I go fairly regularly to check out concerts and other events. I wanted it to sound good because, you know, I’d be one of the punters in the scene!”

  • L-Acoustics Powers the Future of Golf at TGL Presented by SoFi, First-of-Its-Kind, Prime Time, Team Golf League

L-Acoustics Powers the Future of Golf at TGL Presented by SoFi, First-of-Its-Kind, Prime Time, Team Golf League

The future of golf has arrived at the custom-built SoFi Center, where TGL presented by SoFi has built a platform for prime time, team golf through an unprecedented fusion of technology and live competition. This first-of-its-kind league, backed by TMRW Sports Group, debuted in January on ESPN and ESPN+, and its season will wrap by the end of March. At the heart of this innovative in-venue experience is a sophisticated L-Acoustics sound system designed to transform traditional golf spectatorship into an electrifying entertainment experience.

The 250,000-square-foot SoFi Center, located on the Palm Beach State College campus, combines a state-of-the-art virtual course with a unique short-game complex. Here, six teams comprised of 24 PGA TOUR stars compete in fast-paced, two-hour matches that provide a new way fans can experience elite golf, both in the stands and through global broadcasts.

ESI Production Services, an L-Acoustics Certified Provider, implemented the venue’s ambitious audio system. “This project completely reimagines the relationship between sound and sport,” explains Matt Coombs, Director of ESI AV Solutions, a division of ESI Production Services. “This isn’t just another sports venue – it’s a virtual reality set inside of a massive television studio, where technology and topflight athletic talent converge to create something entirely new in golf.”

Coombs says of instead of looking at typical sports venues for inspiration, the teams researched the sound for events such American Ninja Warrior and other unconventional competition productions. “This isn’t your grandfather’s golf tournament,” he adds. “From atmospheric sound effects to dynamic music integration, we’re creating an audio environment that matches TGL’s vision of reimagining golf for a new era.”

The decision to partner with L-Acoustics was strategic, building on the company’s proven track record in elite sporting events worldwide, including multiple Super Bowl deployments. TMRW Sports Group was looking for a technology partner to deliver powerful, precise sound that energizes both players and fans, and L-Acoustics’ reputation for excellence in high-stakes live environments made the brand the clear choice for this project.

The comprehensive sound system designed for the space features 14 primary arrays, each combining two L-Acoustics A15i loudspeakers with KS21i subwoofers for the main audience areas. Two further hangs of one A15i face the field, where low frequency extension was not needed. These are powered by the latest LA7.16i amplified controllers.

Several levels of suites and VIP boxes are covered by a combination of coaxial X Series loudspeakers. In the suites, 18 ultra-compact L-Acoustics 5XT coaxials are intended mainly for pre- and post-event speech, rather than music reproduction, and are powered by LA2Xi. These are invisibly wall-mounted behind scrims and positioned next to the Samsung flat-panel televisions in each suite and area. Eight X6i are wall-mounted in the VIP boxes, while the six owners boxes each sport a pair of larger 8Xi. Another 44 5XT, also powered by LA 7.16i, ring the interior of the field as under-balcony fills for the stands. Content-wise, these have just the player’s microphone audio in them, with the A Series hangs handling both speech and the music programs for the stands.

“L-Acoustics is proud to set a new benchmark in sports entertainment with this groundbreaking installation,” says Preston Russ, Regional Sales Manager at L-Acoustics. “We’ve created what we believe is the world’s first golf venue equipped with a full-bandwidth audio system. Our distributed design approach, powered by Milan-AVB networking technology, ensures perfect synchronization and exceptional sound quality throughout the venue – from thunderous effects to crystal-clear commentary. This is truly a first-of-its-kind audio experience that matches TGL’s innovative vision for the future of golf.”

  • L-Acoustics K Series Sound Flies Again Along with The Eagles (and The Chiefs) at Super Bowl LIX

L-Acoustics K Series Sound Flies Again Along with The Eagles (and The Chiefs) at Super Bowl LIX

The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans has seen it all, and then some. It hosted Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February 9, its eighth NFL Big Game since the iconic domed venue opened in 1975. In that time, it’s also served as the Big Easy’s largest event facility and, more importantly, as its main refuge during storms. Even in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina damaged the structure’s outer cladding and forced its closure for repairs, the Dome’s eventual reopening became a powerful symbol of the city’s resilience and determination to rebuild and thrive.

What also endures about the Superdome has been its sound. Each of those Super Bowls additionally hosted one of the event’s emblematic halftime music shows, including this year’s concert by 22-time Grammy Award winner Kendrick Lamar. Like a phoenix that it is, the Superdome arose and readied itself once again, this time with a completely new sound system brought in specifically for the halftime show and the game, and one that’s become a mainstay of high-end concert performances globally: an L-Acoustics K2-based system, provided by ATK Audiotek/Clair Global, who have managed the halftime-event sound for nearly 30 years.

The Grid Above and Around the Gridiron
The system comprised 16 hangs of K2 arrays and eight hangs of KS28 subs. A dozen of those K2 hangs had K1-SB above; eight of the K2 hangs had closely-coupled K1-SB, while four of the remaining K2 hangs used K1-SB as a line extension. The number of subs has been increasing over the last few years, reflecting the halftime shows’ production by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company, which has steered the events in a hip-hop direction since 2019.

This temporary sound system was similar to that used the past two years. It is, in fact, the third time that Kirk Powell, design engineer at ATK Audiotek (acquired in 2021 by Clair Global) and his staff – including show mixers Alex Guessard and Dave Natale, monitor mixers Tom Pesa and Chris Daniels, and systems engineer Johnny Keirle – have put a separate sound system up in the air in a Super Bowl venue. That process began two years ago, when State Farm Stadium’s roll-out grass field prevented the carts that had been deployed for decades to trundle PA components quickly out to the field for the changeover to Usher’s halftime show. Until 2023, the halftime-dedicated sound systems were used exclusively for the music performances, with the installed house PA used for announcements and effects sound.

Since then, the temporary L-Acoustics PA systems have also handled all of the live sound in the bowl for the game and all related events, such as the Opening Night event at the stadium on Monday, where hundreds of media interview Super Bowl players and coaches for the first time during their only public appearance before taking the field for The Big Game. But because this year the temporary system was also being used for the entire game, there were actually a total of 200 K2, 40 K1-SB, and 64 KS28 – the largest such system yet deployed of any type for a Super Bowl. It also served as the first-listen opportunity ahead of the game and halftime events, as well.

“The halftime show is so different than what we’re doing for opening night, but we get a good handle on how the room feels,” Powell says. “Having a flown system makes a lot of difference because the coverage is better and it’s consistent – it’s there all day; we’re not moving it in and out during rehearsals. It’s the third time we’ve done this and it’s a continuation of just trying to improve and tweak and see if we can make it a little bit better than last time.”

    Super-Challenging Dome Design
The Superdome – the fifth oldest in the league and the second-ever domed NFL field – is an iconic relic from an earlier era of stadium architecture and a living historical record of sound-system design. “It’s got really deep under-balconies and that creates a big challenge,” says Powell. “You have to rely on the installed house system for the fill speakers you need to reach those areas. And acoustically speaking, there are other challenges, because it’s an older stadium that wasn’t updated like a newer stadium would be for acoustic treatments to address, for instance, the reflectivity of a lot of exposed concrete. Plus, it’s a big, roofed room. So yes, there are acoustic issues.”

    K Series for the Win
But the L-Acoustics K Series was more than up to the challenge. “One of the biggest challenges was the trim height restriction, as no rigging elements could be lower than 153 feet from the field,” explains PA systems designer Johnny Keirle. “That forced me to design the system higher than ideal, which introduced coverage and tonal balance challenges, as well as potential temporal issues. The flexibility of the K Series, particularly K2’s adjustable Panflex and rigging flexibility, was key in combatting these constraints. Narrowing the horizontal dispersion of the K2 using Panflex, and using K2 rigbars to allow for extreme curvature where needed, helped to both maintain coverage and tonal consistency despite the higher-than-optimal trim requirements.” Further, he adds, L-Acoustics’ Soundvision design software allowed for fast and accurate on-site optimization of the designs.

The event’s music component was substantial – in addition to the Kendrick Lamar halftime show, Louisiana jazz legends Jon Batiste and Trombone Shorty with singer Lauren Daigle also performed live – and the K Series assured they all had a great show. “With K Series, rather than having a public address-type system, I can design a system that delivers a true rock and roll experience, not just for the halftime show, but also for pre-game entertainment and the game itself,” says Keirle. “Both elements of the event – the game announcements and the halftime show – have different criteria, and I approached the system design with both in mind from the start. The system was designed to deliver plenty of SPL and LF contour for the halftime show to hit with impact, while maintaining the clarity, intelligibility, and immediacy required for game announcements and referee calls.”

The Big Game had an unexpected ending: a lop-sided score that saw the Philadelphia Eagles prevent the Kansas City Chiefs’ widely predicted three-peat win. But what everyone got was a superb sonic experience via the L-Acoustics K Series arrays. “Everything went just as fantastic as we expected,” Powell concluded. “We had plenty of headroom with the L-Acoustics system all night long, and it sounded great for both the halftime show and the game itself. It was a win.”

  • Memphis Grizzlies’ Den Roars with L-Acoustics Kara IIi Professional Audio System

Memphis Grizzlies’ Den Roars with L-Acoustics Kara IIi Professional Audio System

Memphis, Tennessee is the birthplace of the blues, so fan expectations for sound are high in this “Music City.” It’s fitting then that fans of the NBA Memphis Grizzlies and the NCAA Division I men’s basketball of the University of Memphis are now enjoying impactful and engaging sound from an L-Acoustics Kara IIi system at FedExForum. Designed by consultancy WJHW and installed by integrator Solotech, the 19,000-capacity multipurpose arena’s new audio rig first went live on October 26th for the Grizzlies versus Orlando Magic game, and has also recently been used by key visiting music artists, including Billy Strings, Jhené Aiko, Justin Timberlake, and Maxwell.

“The original system from 2004 couldn’t meet current requirements for music playback expected by todays fans,” explains WJHW Principal Mark Graham, who led the system design. “The arena’s new rigging infrastructure covering two-thirds of the venue floor required an audio design that could deliver powerful performance within a compact footprint. Kara IIi meets these requirements perfectly.”

FedExForum’s new L-Acoustics professional sound system features eight arrays of 15 Kara IIi each, powered by LA7.16i amplified controllers, with two KS28 subs per hang powered by LA12X. In addition, two dozen coaxial X12 enclosures are used as delays for the upper-deck seating on the north and south ends, with eight larger X15 installed directly under the scoreboard as court-fills.

“L-Acoustics has elevated the experience for fans at FedExForum with world-class sound,” says Seth Tackett, Senior Director, Arena Operations. “Whether it is watching the Grizzlies or Tigers, or attending one of our many concerts or shows, guests of FedExForum are experiencing connections to our events like never before and we could not be more thrilled about it.”

The 800,000-plus-square-foot arena’s interior celebrates Memphis’ musical heritage, with artwork featuring locals like Justin Timberlake, B.B. King, and Elvis Presley. Even the venue’s dining spaces reflect this theme, including the Opus Restaurant and the Blue Note Lounge.

“Kara IIi sounds fantastic across various music genres,” adds Graham. “Its consistent coverage, both vertically and horizontally, combined with consistent speech intelligibility make it ideal for this installation.” And the system has one more ace up its sleeve: it’s a perfect fit for the arena’s new rigging system. “Combined with the great support from L-Acoustics, this system is the right choice for FedExForum,” he concludes.
