FoxTown Factory Stores Creates a Multi-sensory Museum Using AtlasIED Loudspeakers and Amplifiers

Mendrisio is a small town in southern Switzerland that’s home to the FoxTown Factory Stores, the first factory outlet center in Southern Europe. Opened in 1995, FoxTown is far from a typical factory outlet. Covering 30,000 square meters with more than 160 stores, bars, restaurants, a play area, and even a casino, FoxTown is a shopping and entertainment destination. As the center’s management team planned an expansion in 2022, they conceived a bold idea for a new entertainment experience: The Sense Gallery, Switzerland’s first multi-sensory museum.

The Sense Gallery was brought to life in January 2023 under the visionary leadership of Luca Gambardella. Tasked with creating an immersive and modern digital space for FoxTown, Gambardella envisioned a fusion of science and art designed to engage the senses and provoke reflection.

In collaboration with Compagnia Finzi Pasca, known for their work with Cirque du Soleil and Olympic ceremonies, The Sense Gallery became an extraordinary space where “nothing is as it seems” and features immersive rooms designed to awaken the senses of its visitors through cutting-edge AV technology and tailored sensory experiences. By the summer of 2023, a team of artisans and artists joined forces to shape six distinct rooms: Tunnel of Light, Upside Down World, Infinity Room, House of the Fox, OLTRE, and Enchanted Forest. With cutting-edge AV solutions from Leading Technologies, The Sense Gallery offers an immersive experience, transporting visitors into its mesmerizing worlds.

The journey through The Sense Gallery begins in the Tunnel of Light. As visitors pass through the portal of illusion, vibrant lights-capes dance and intertwine like dreams coming to life. Mirrors amplify the enchantment, multiplying sensations and transporting attendees on an exciting journey through time and space accompanied by ethereal harmonies with a synthesized backing track. Leading Technologies installed AtlasIED SM52T surface-mount speakers, cleverly hidden among the light displays and positioned outside the tunnel. The speakers comprise a highly efficient woofer section and a FerroFluid-cooled, titanium dome high-frequency driver. Vocal and musical clarity is optimized by the advanced design of the AtlasIED TRX Control WaveGuide high-frequency director. These speakers provide visitors with clear and detailed sound, utilizing the sense of hearing to guide them through the tunnel. AtlasIED’s 1200-watt DPA1202 multi-channel amplifier powers the speakers. The network-based DPA1202 is a 4-channel amplifier that can be configured in three different amplification arrangements to meet the design requirements of any installation. The final result of managing the delays between the various speakers creates a realistic tunnel effect.

“For The Sense Gallery, the requirements of the ideal partner matched perfectly with the profile of AtlasIED’s Leading Technologies.” — Valerio Tartaglia, IT Manager of Tarchini Group

The journey continues into the Enchanted Forest, where visitors follow a magical path that draws them closer to the primordial beauty of nature with each step. Every corner of the room offers a complete immersion into nature, with mirrors and video projections harmoniously integrating with natural elements to craft a magical and captivating atmosphere. An AtlasIED DPA1202 amplifier powers the room’s audio, consisting of bird calls, vocalizations, and other background sounds expected in a forest primeval.

Upon exiting The Sense Gallery, visitors realize they have experienced a dynamic, exciting, and multi-sensory journey,: an adventure into the unknown guided by the skillful use of lights, colors, images, and sounds.

  • Enhancing Gymnasium Intelligibility at Pulaski Road Elementary with SoundTube Line Arrays

Enhancing Gymnasium Intelligibility at Pulaski Road Elementary with SoundTube Line Arrays

    Client: Pulaski Road Elementary School
    Integrator: Advance Sound Company
    Location: Long Island, New York
SoundTube Products Used: LA880i Line Arrays
Other Equipment: Shure SLX-D wireless mics, Symetrix DSP, Simpro for quoting

    Project Overview

Pulaski Road Elementary, part of the Riverhead Central School District in New York, recently underwent a significant renovation, with audio upgrades in its historic auditorium prioritized as a critical first step. The district wanted to create a high-intelligibility environment suitable for announcements, presentations, and assemblies without compromising the space’s architectural character.

Advance Sound Company was brought in to lead the installation, drawing on their experience with historic facilities and repeatable AV system design across the district.

“This space really needed a line array that could keep sound from bouncing around,” said Thomas DePace from Advance Sound Company. “I needed something with width and tight vertical dispersion to maintain clarity all the way to the back of the room.”

    The Audio Challenge

The auditorium, originally designed as a multiuse recreation and performance space, featured intricate woodwork, shallow depth, and reverberant surfaces. Prior loudspeakers, including SX300s reused from a high school auditorium, failed to meet the school’s needs. With intelligibility as the primary requirement, the district turned to Advance Sound to engineer a more targeted solution.

     Why SoundTube

Advance Sound selected SoundTube’s LA880i line array speakers in white, which visually blended with the space and allowed for precise coverage without overwhelming volume. These speakers were mounted at a six-foot height from the stage floor to meet ADA clearance and minimize back-wall reflections. The LA880i’s controlled directivity and vertical dispersion were critical in keeping the audio focused.

“We tilted the speakers out to minimize reflections and ensure even coverage,” said DePace. “SoundTube’s LA880is gave us just what we needed—a clean, intelligible soundscape across the entire space.”

     Design and Installation Efficiency

To streamline quoting and system design, Advance Sound used Simpro quoting software with prebuilt templates for common installations like gymnasiums. This allowed them to quickly generate a scalable AV package—including mics, processing, and line arrays—tailored to each school’s size.

“SimPro made quoting fast and repeatable,” DePace explained. “We’ve built templates for different gym sizes. The LA880is are our go-to for these types of installs.”

The system also incorporated a Symetrix DSP controller and a set of Shure SLX-D wireless microphones, offering a balance of reliability, simplicity, and expandability. Adaptive Technologies beam clamps were used to mount the speakers quickly and securely.

    Results and Feedback

The upgraded gym audio system now delivers crystal-clear sound throughout the room enhancing events and ensuring accessibility. Following the success at Pulaski Road Elementary, Advance Sound Company has been called back for additional AV upgrades throughout the district.

“The district now wants us to survey other buildings. A good product paired with a repeatable, scalable system—it’s working for them and for us,” said DePace.

  • L-Acoustics Brings Visual Style and Stylish Sound to Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club

L-Acoustics Brings Visual Style and Stylish Sound to Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club

Originally opened in 1930, The Surf Club, located between Miami Beach and Bal Harbour, was built by tire tycoon Harvey Firestone as the ultimate place to be seen, a playground of the rich and famous during the Great Depression. Over the decades, the venue maintained its popularity, hosting celebrities such as Gary Cooper, Noel Coward, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., The Rat Pack, Elizabeth Taylor, and Douglas MacArthur. And it did it with style: kayaks in the swimming pool, black tie Gatsby-esque dinners, and lavish themed galas – one time with elephants, another with 300 tables made entirely of ice. A full renovation in 2017 introduced a luxury condo-hotel operated by Four Seasons, along with restaurants, a private club, four pools, a gym, and gardens.

The Surf Club recently approached its sound design with the same level of care and style. In late 2024, Daniel Buckman, President of boutique music consultancy BELLOSOUND, was brought in by Hotel Manager Richard Lanaud to elevate Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club’s music experience. This included a complete audio upgrade of the legendary Champagne Bar.

To lead the technical design and implementation, Buckman brought in Corry McGibbon, President of The 192 Group. McGibbon oversees BELLOSOUND’s technical strategy across all global installations, ensuring premium sound quality and seamless integration. To meet both aesthetic and performance requirements, they turned to L-Acoustics, which offered both Art Deco-compatible style and sonic substance.

“While the existing sound system at Champagne Bar served its purpose, there was an opportunity to enhance the ambiance with greater depth and richness,” observes McGibbon. “The space’s reflective surfaces also made it challenging to maintain balanced acoustics at higher volumes, highlighting the potential to further refine the overall guest experience.”

However, any changes had to be done with sensitivity to the venue’s architectural and cultural heritage. “The hotel is within a meticulously restored historic property; any updates had to be discreet and approved through a detailed design review,” he emphasizes. “We were tasked with delivering a solution that offers pristine, ambient background music during the day and a vibrant, energetic soundscape for DJ-led evenings, without compromising the space’s architectural integrity. L-Acoustics offered the perfect solutions.”

Those solutions included ultra-compact X4i loudspeakers, selected for their clarity and diminutive size. Conveniently, their form factor matched the dimensions of the wood trim on the arched glass doors surrounding the room. “Using Soundvision software, we accurately modeled the space and were able to predict the angles in advance, enabling us to specify a minimalist Tilt 40 fixed bracket rather than relying on large adjustable mounts,” McGibbon explains.

Eight SB10i subwoofers fit perfectly within the custom banquette planters that run down the center of the room, providing a full, warm low-end presence without any visible impact. And, as a final flourish – and McGibbon’s personal favorite – a single Syva + Syva Low system was placed adjacent to the DJ booth. “This setup delivers the dynamic range and energy required for evening entertainment, perfectly complementing the more subtle system elements used during the day,” he says, further noting that L-Acoustics amplified controllers integrated seamlessly to the Q-SYS distributed audio system. “They also allow our support teams access to remote monitoring,” he adds.

Music choices for the venue and the system are as important as any other aesthetic decisions says BELLOSOUND’s Buckman, who describes both the space and the sound as “sophisticated and chic, celebrating the history and legacy of the venue. The association with Four Seasons means the sound quality has to be exceptional – and the L-Acoustics speakers deliver exactly that.”

On the subject of visuals, McGibbon points out that the X4i’s rich wood finish fit complements the lounge décor perfectly, while the white-finished Syva loudspeakers blend well in their location. “You barely notice them, they fit so well; but when you do spot them, it’s clear that they belong in a place like this,” he says.

The ultimate compliment may have come from the entertainers who perform in the restaurant and bar. “They’ve commented on how good the room sounds now,” says Buckman. “There are very high expectations for the sound here, and L-Acoustics has clearly met them.”

  • Immacolata e San Martino a Montughi Installs AtlasIED Aimline Loudspeakers for an Improved Worship Experience

Immacolata e San Martino a Montughi Installs AtlasIED Aimline Loudspeakers for an Improved Worship Experience

Ranked as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Florence, Italy, is home to nearly 100 churches. Along via Paoletti stands Immacolata e San Martino a Montughi, a Catholic house of worship constructed in 1936. Typical of many church designs, the vaulted ceilings, stone construction, solid wood pews, and long nave contributed to unsatisfactory reverberation, making it hard for parishioners to hear and understand the liturgy. Dynamic beam steering loudspeakers from AtlasIED are perfect for installations requiringhighly targeted audio solutions.

Immacolata e San Martino a Montughi was closed for an extensive restoration of the nave, and it was officially reopened in October 2023. However, no audio upgrades were implemented during the restoration, and the speech intelligibility issue present prior to the upgrades persisted. Church staff contacted Guido Guidi, a local AV consultant, to recommend a solution that would enable better intelligibility and a better worship experience along the 30-meter-long nave.

The project’s primary objective was to ensure clear sound coverage throughout the nave, which was difficult given the structural and reverberation challenges typical of such spaces. As in any audio project, speech intelligibility directly correlates with comprehension: the clearer the sound, the better the understanding.

“With the help of Leading Technologies [AtlasIED’s Italian distributor], I was quickly able to arrange an on-site demonstration, with ALX-D loudspeakers positioned along the sides of the nave,” said Guidi. “We conducted listening tests with the parish priest and some parishioners, comparing the new setup with the old system, and carried out STI measurements directly on-site. In this case, the combination of rapid setup and accurate simulations was undoubtedly one of our strengths.”

“We conducted listening tests, comparing the new setup with the old system, and carried out STI measurements directly on-site.” -Guido Guidi AV Consultant

Guidi installed Aimline ALX-16D digitally steerable arrays in the sanctuary to improve speech intelligibility and provide even front-to-back coverage. Designed for applications with problematic acoustics, the combination of advanced steering algorithms, powerful DSP, and efficient amplification in the Aimline Series gives system designers a unique set of tools for controlling sound in large, acoustically challenging, highly reverberant spaces. Aimline loudspeakers precisely control directivity in the vertical axis, resulting in optimal coverage and the best possible direct-to-reverberant ratio for enhanced intelligibility. Acoustic output is precisely aimed at the audience, significantly reducing reflections from hard surfaces. Additionally, the diminutive narrow cabinets and discreet mounting hardware seamlessly blend into architecturally sensitive spaces like the church’s sanctuary.

“Given the need for controlled directivity sound lines — and the constraints imposed on loudspeaker placement — the ALX-16D models immediately proved to be a great fit,” said Guidi. “We also upgraded the original processor and cables to take advantage of the Dante connection, which made the installation process remarkably fast.”

“Considering the results and the system’s outstanding performance, I will definitely keep Aimline and AtlasIED in mind for future projects.” — Guido Guidi, AV Consultant

The new system has significantly improved the acoustic experience, ensuring superior speech intelligibility even in the most distant points of the nave and resolving the reverberation problems that characterized the previous system.

Although indirect, feedback from the parishioners was overwhelmingly positive. Father Don Maurizio commented, “The fact that no one made remarks about the functioning of the new system is already a very good sign,” and was particularly enthusiastic about how quickly the installation was completed.

“Considering the results and the system’s outstanding performance, I will definitely keep Aimline and AtlasIED in mind for future projects with similar needs or challenges,” said Guidi. “I will especially consider this brand for high-profile projects that demand reliable, high-quality sound systems.”

  • Riviera Theatre Experiences a “French Revival” with New L-Acoustics L Series Concert Sound System

Riviera Theatre Experiences a “French Revival” with New L-Acoustics L Series Concert Sound System

Chicago’s Riviera Theatre first opened in 1917 as a lavish French Renaissance Revival-style movie palace for the Balaban & Katz chain. But the historic Uptown venue took on a new life 50 years ago, when emerging concert promoter Jam Productions booked Supertramp for a show in April 1975. Since then, “The Riv” has remained a cornerstone of Chicago’s live music scene, earning a place in the pantheon of legendary venues alongside San Francisco’s Fillmore. While the $5.50 ticket price from that debut concert is long gone, the experience continues to improve – most recently with the installation of a cutting-edge L-Acoustics L Series loudspeaker system.

In recent years, the 2,500 capacity venue has undertaken a major restoration effort to bring the century-old theater back to its original splendor. As part of the renovation, it became clear that the sound system needed an upgrade. Jam turned to Minnesota-based Allied Productions, who in 2017 installed an L-Acoustics system at the Palace Theatre (St. Paul, MN) and had recently installed the world’s first L Series system at Minneapolis’ iconic First Avenue – earning rave reviews from both artists and fans.

“Having experienced Allied Productions’ exceptional work and the impressive performance of the L-Acoustics system during its installation at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul, I became a strong admirer of both,” says Jerry Mickelson, CEO, President, and Co-founder of Jam Productions. “So when it came time to upgrade the sound at the Riv, bringing them in was an easy decision.”

Today, the Riv’s sound system is comprised of two L-Acoustics L2 enclosures flown over a single L2D per side as mains, sonically anchored by 11 KS28 subs spread out under the downstage edge of the deck. Four A10 Focus enclosures line the stage lip supplying front-fill, while four A15i Wide and five A10i Wide ceiling-mounted under the balcony serve as distributed delay fills. Seven 16-channel LA7.16 amplified controllers drive the main arrays and distributed delays, six four-channel LA12X power the subs and front-fills, and the entire system runs on a redundant Milan-AVB network managed by two P1 processors.

Onstage, a dozen L-Acoustics X15 HiQ wedges plus two KS21 subs are available to offer monitoring, as is a side-fill system featuring two arrays of two KS21, one A15 Focus, and one A15 Wide flown behind the L Series on each side of the stage.

Allied Productions also supplied the venue with two DiGiCo Quantum225 Pulse consoles: one at stage left joined by a pair of SD-Racks, and the other out at front of house, paired with an XTA M36 console switch to accommodate artists carrying their own control surfaces.

As structural integrity and architectural renovations had been completed before sound system upgrade began, preserving these features was paramount. Tyler Thomas, who led Allied Productions’ engineering team, explains how this led to rigging challenges: “Deep into the project, the rigging plan was simplified to a single point hang per side, since the entire system was fabricated and installed before the PA renovation.” Their Soundvision model easily accommodated the redesign with minimal impact – just a .01 degree difference. L-Acoustics proved ideal for the project due to the lightweight design of L Series and its versatile rigging options. Thomas notes, “Each L Series enclosure comes in under a half-ton. A comparable system would have been at least 500 pounds heavier. And the L2-BAR’s versatile rigging options allowed us to work within the building’s existing constraints rather than requiring structural modifications. We simply needed to tie the speakers to a permanent pipe to ensure proper alignment while respecting the completed architectural restoration.”

The Riv’s first show to feature the new L Series was a Dweezil Zappa concert, held just three days after calibration. “The sound quality is remarkable throughout the entire venue, even reaching the furthest balcony seats,” says Thomas. “The L Series cardioid drivers also significantly reduce noise bleed onstage.”

Thomas notes that the technical performance exceeded expectations from the start. ”Our Soundvision design predictions were spot-on, with less than one decibel of frequency response variation from front to back of the venue. We achieved 98% of our high-volume sound distribution targets and 99.8% of our overall volume change targets from front to back – performance metrics that other speaker systems would struggle to match.” Beyond sound quality, the system’s visual impact was also considered: “The elegant L2/L2D design helps the equipment visually disappear, keeping the focus on the performers. Both the Riviera Theatre team and Jam Productions are extremely satisfied with the coverage and sound.”

  • JBL VTX A Series Powers Recovery Benefit Concert for Ladders to Leaders

JBL VTX A Series Powers Recovery Benefit Concert for Ladders to Leaders

In early 2025, the city of Hagerstown came together for an unforgettable evening of live music and community impact at the Ladders to Leaders Recovery Benefit Concert. Organized by Ladders to Leaders, a local non-profit that supports individuals in achieving lasting recovery, and powered by All Sound Pro LLC, the benefit celebrated those transitioning from addiction to recovery and raised vital support for three local recovery homes operated by Ladders to Leaders.

“This concert was important to our community as it provided an evening to celebrate those who have faced the challenges of substance misuse and have succeeded in overcoming the issue,” said Alicia Divens, Event Organizer and Board President of Ladders to Leaders. “Music is an amazing art form that has the ability to bring people together. The benefit concert was a huge success, spotlighting the work of Ladders to Leaders and accomplishments of our residents.”

Bob Ranalli of All Sound Pro and his team deployed a JBL VTX A Series system for the event, choosing it for its clarity, rider friendliness, and effortless deployment. “We chose the A8s and B28s for their scalability, clarity, unbelievable power for the size, and ease of deployment,” he said. “It is by far the easiest rigging system, and setting the array angles with the locking system as well as truck transport are incredibly easy. Ground stacking is extremely easy as well. Literally taking half the time of other brands, it seems they thought of everything in the design.”

The venue presented several acoustic challenges, including a large parabolic dome in the ceiling and a mix position located slightly house right and under a balcony. Using JBL Performance Manager, Ranalli and team fine-tuned the deployment to handle these challenges. The main JBL VTX A8 arrays were supported by VTX B28 subwoofers in cardioid configuration to keep the low end focused out in the audience, while JBL SRX906 speakers were used for front fill coverage of the VIP seating area. The house’s existing under-balcony loudspeakers were integrated into the system using Crown VRack amplifiers and tuned by ear to match the tonal character of the VTX system.

The performance featured a lineup of musicians with national credentials and deep local roots, including Brad Divens (Wrathchild America, Souls At Zero and KIX) as lead vocalist and bass guitarist, Shannon Larkin of Godsmack and Wrathchild America on drums, Bob Paré from KIX and Ever Rise on guitar and vocals, Brian Forsythe of KIX and Rhino Bucket on guitar, and Brad’s son Zach as a guest vocalist.

“Having mixed on VTX for several tours, I knew the JBL A8 would rock the Maryland Theatre,” said Brad Divens. “It was a no-brainer to have Bob and his company involved. I’ve worked with him on other projects and knew he was the guy to deliver the show to the audience.”

“The tones coming off the stage were already exceptional,” said Ranalli. “I feel my job is always to get out of the way and let the band shine. I don’t like over-processing everything. I like things to breathe and have

momentum. That’s the whole reason why we could listen to those old albums over and over and not get tired. The JBL VTXs delivered consistent SPL throughout the venue. You can make it sound big without it hurting.”

Audience reaction was overwhelmingly positive. “The crowd response was incredible,” Ranalli said. “There were several manufacturer reps and large production company reps in attendance, and they were blown away by the band and the overall sound. People are still talking about the show on social media, local radio and in the press.”

“The A8s flawlessly delivered all the detail from the guitars and vocals to the punch from the B28s that got everyone’s attention,” he added. “The musicality of the subs and how they interacted with the A8s helped deliver Brad’s signature bass tone that the crowd definitely came to hear.”

For Ladders to Leaders, the benefit marked a significant milestone, not just for fundraising, but for the powerful message of hope and community it represented. “It was an honor to accept the role of president,” said Alicia Divens. “And this event was a reflection of what’s possible when recovery, music and community come together.”

These new additions incorporate advanced tri-axial technology and precision-engineered construction. Designed to deliver high SPL levels with unmatched clarity, the Dragon Series is ideal for demanding environments such as nightclubs, sports venues and DJ monitoring setups, setting a new standard for performance in the live sound space.

InfoComm 2025 will also mark the international debut of the Dolomite KDR202P, a full-range tower loudspeaker, set to redefine the portable audio experience. With built-in 10-inch subwoofers and twelve 2-inch drivers, Dolomite blends elegant aesthetics with K-array’s cutting-edge Pure Array Technology and offers uncompromising audio quality and versatility, wrapped in a sleek and compact form factor.
