Crestron Demonstrates the Power of Flexible Venue Technology at Spotify Camp Nou

At InfoComm 2026, Tim Albright chatted with Joel Mulpeter of Crestron to discuss the company’s role in powering the technology ecosystem at Spotify Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona.

The project extends beyond the stadium itself. According to Mulpeter, Crestron technology supports the entire Espai Barça precinct, including meeting spaces, learning environments, corporate suites, and hospitality areas.

A key challenge for modern sports venues is maximizing the value of spaces beyond game days. While stadiums host a limited number of matches each year, operators are increasingly looking to generate revenue and engagement through corporate events and other activities.

Crestron addressed this need by enabling spaces to transition seamlessly between match-day and business-use scenarios. Areas such as the Pitch Club can switch from displaying live game content and venue audio to supporting presentations, meetings, and private events.

Mulpeter emphasized that the focus was not just on technology deployment, but on designing workflows around how each space is used. From executive meeting rooms to premium hospitality suites, the goal was to create experiences that are intuitive for users while reducing operational complexity for venue staff.

The company also highlighted the importance of personalization. In premium spaces, users can control audio, select content sources, share presentations, and manage room experiences directly, helping create a more tailored environment for guests.

While Spotify Camp Nou is one of the world’s most recognizable sports venues, Mulpeter noted that many of the concepts developed for the project are transferable to other markets. Flexible room configurations, user-centric controls, and workflow-driven design can benefit corporate offices, higher education environments, and other large-scale facilities.
