At NAB 2026, Shure Advances AV-to-Broadcast Convergence with the DCA 901 Array Microphone

At NAB Show 2026, Shure is pushing deeper into the broadcast space with the DCA 901, a planar array microphone designed to handle complex, high-noise environments with precision. In a conversation with Tim Albright, Everett Salyer broke down how the company is evolving its well-known array microphone technology into something purpose-built for production workflows.

The DCA 901 features 78 transducers arranged in a concentric pattern, enabling eight steerable beamforming zones within a single form factor. The concept is simple but powerful: capture exactly what you want while rejecting everything else. Think of it as directing a flashlight at sound, isolating subtle audio even in acoustically challenging environments like live sports or large venues.

While the design may feel familiar to those who’ve worked with Shure’s MXA series, the shift here is intentional. The DCA 901 removes onboard processing and introduces a broadcast-focused control interface, aligning more closely with production teams that need flexibility, speed, and integration into larger workflows rather than all-in-one DSP solutions.

Use cases are already expanding. From NBA and NCAA basketball to baseball, marching bands, and even houses of worship, the microphone is proving its versatility. In large worship spaces, for example, teams are using it to recreate the depth and energy of the room for remote audiences, a growing priority as live streaming continues to evolve.

Beyond individual deployments, the DCA 901 is starting to integrate into broader ecosystems. Partnerships and third-party software integrations seen on the show floor signal that this isn’t just a product launch, it’s part of a larger shift where AV and broadcast technologies continue to converge, opening new opportunities for scalable, flexible audio capture in production environments.
