Utelogy Modernizes AV Operations at Erasmus University Rotterdam

Utelogy Corporation, the global leader in connected workplace management, monitoring, control, automation and analytics has transformed AV operations at Erasmus University Rotterdam, creating a more efficient, scalable, and reliable technology environment for students and faculty.

With hundreds of classrooms and tens of thousands of students, the university had previously relied on a mix of proprietary systems and manual maintenance, requiring technicians to spend hours checking rooms and responding to issues. Seeking a more proactive approach, Erasmus University Rotterdam, one of the Netherlands’ most forward-thinking institutions adopted Utelogy’s software-defined, vendor-agnostic platform, deployed with integration partner Kinly, to unify the monitoring, management, and control of AV and IT-connected devices across campus.

“We wanted to move from being reactive to proactive, to find and fix problems before anyone in the room even noticed,” said Ramon Bovenlander, Team Lead Media Support Center at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Today, the AV team has real-time visibility into more than 300 classrooms across multiple buildings through a single interface. Automated processes now power down unused rooms, reboot unresponsive devices, and reduce energy consumption, significantly lowering downtime and operational costs. Standardized touch panel interfaces ensure a consistent experience for faculty and students, while the platform’s flexibility allows the university’s internal team to reconfigure spaces without relying on external programmers.

“Erasmus University Rotterdam exemplifies how our customers can simplify operations while improving the experience for students and faculty,” said Jonathan Mangnall, Managing Director at Utelogy EMEA. “With greater visibility and automation, their team saves valuable time and manpower while staying ahead of issues and getting more from their technology every day.”

Since its initial rollout four years ago, Utelogy has enabled Erasmus University to eliminate manual room checks, shift to proactive support, and leverage data to inform decisions around technology investments, usage, and energy management. The platform continues to expand as the university renovates facilities and evolves its teaching environments.

“When we started, we thought Utelogy would just make room control easier. Now it’s a core part of how we manage technology across the whole campus. It helps us do more with the technology we already have,” concluded Bovenlander.
