At InfoComm 2026, Tim Albright talks with Bastian Stolk of AIMS Alliance about the organization’s latest efforts to support the growing adoption of Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX). The conversation focused on new educational resources, certification initiatives, and the continued evolution of interoperability across the professional AV industry.
One of the biggest announcements from AIMS Alliance is the launch of the first chapters of a free IPMX training program. The education platform is designed to help users understand the fundamentals of IPMX, including how the transport technology works, the standards it builds upon, and best practices for network design.
According to Stolk, the training is primarily intended for AV engineers who are responsible for designing and deploying systems. However, he noted that information technology (IT) directors can also benefit from the introductory lessons as AV and IT environments continue to converge. The initial courses focus on foundational concepts and network planning for corporate and educational environments.
Beyond training, AIMS Alliance is continuing to expand its IPMX certification efforts. Following strong interest in its first certification event, the organization plans to return to Geneva for additional certification activities. Stolk said the growing number of manufacturers participating in IPMX initiatives reflects increasing industry confidence in the technology.
The discussion also highlighted the progress IPMX has made over the past several years. What began as a concept built on SMPTE ST 2110 standards has developed into a growing ecosystem of interoperable products. Stolk pointed to increasing participation from manufacturers and a rising number of real-world projects incorporating IPMX as evidence of that momentum.
To help integrators and end users evaluate compatibility, AIMS Alliance maintains a registry of certified devices. The registry allows users to identify which products have completed certification and understand how different devices can interoperate within IPMX deployments.
As AV-over-IP adoption continues to expand, education and certification remain critical pieces of the industry’s transition. AIMS Alliance’s latest initiatives aim to provide AV professionals with the knowledge and confidence needed to deploy interoperable IPMX solutions in real-world environments.
