Crestron Helps Power a More Flexible Future for Spotify Camp Nou

As sports venues continue to evolve beyond game-day destinations, the technology behind them is becoming just as important as the action on the field. Stadiums are increasingly expected to host corporate meetings, premium hospitality experiences, community events, and educational programs throughout the year, creating demand for AV systems that can adapt to multiple use cases with minimal effort.

At Spotify Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona, Crestron is playing a key role in supporting that transformation. The company’s technology powers the broader Espai Barça precinct, connecting everything from the stadium itself to hospitality areas, meeting rooms, and learning spaces through a unified technology ecosystem.

Rather than designing systems solely around football matches, the project focuses on making every space functional throughout the year.

The whole precinct is powered by Crestron technology,” said Joel Mulpeter of Crestron. “We have a great partnership with the team there who’s deploying everything from stadium technology right through to meeting rooms and learning spaces and other things throughout the whole precinct.”

Making the Most of Every Day

One of the biggest challenges facing modern stadiums is utilization. Even the world’s busiest sports venues host a limited number of matches annually, leaving significant opportunities to maximize the value of premium spaces during the rest of the year.

At Spotify Camp Nou, that means designing technology that allows rooms to serve multiple purposes without requiring complicated setup or manual reconfiguration.

Hospitality areas such as the Pitch Club can operate as premium viewing environments on match day, complete with live game feeds and synchronized venue audio. When the stadium shifts to hosting corporate functions or private events, those same spaces can quickly transition to support presentations, meetings, and conferences.

“A lot of the spaces, especially the ones in and around the stadium, have this dual use to them,” Mulpeter explained. “There’s the match-day use case… but then there’s all those other days where we’re supporting corporate events and events for FC Barcelona. Having that technology enable that flip of modes and go straight into something that’s a corporate event is really important.”

That ability to transition between experiences helps ensure premium real estate remains productive throughout the year instead of sitting idle between matches.

Technology Designed Around Workflows

Beyond flexibility, the project also emphasizes operational efficiency.

Instead of expecting staff to navigate different technology systems depending on the type of event, Crestron’s deployment focuses on simplifying workflows for each individual space. Whether it’s a hospitality suite, corporate box, executive boardroom, or standard meeting room, the technology is designed to make room operation intuitive while staying largely invisible to the people using it.

“We really worked very closely with them to think about every workflow in the spaces and making sure that workflow matches what they want to get out of that space,” said Mulpeter.

That philosophy extends to the venue’s meeting environments, where technology supports collaboration without becoming a distraction.

“Those meeting rooms are incredibly important, especially high-impact ones where really important decision-making is taking place,” he said. “We want to make sure that we have technology that disappears into the background, lets those decisions be the focus, and allows people to make those quickly and efficiently.”

For venue operators, reducing complexity can be just as valuable as adding new capabilities. Streamlined room controls and consistent user experiences help staff spend less time managing technology and more time supporting guests and events.

A Blueprint for Modern Sports Venues

The Spotify Camp Nou project reflects a broader shift across the sports and entertainment industry. As stadiums increasingly compete to attract concerts, conferences, hospitality events, and corporate functions, technology is becoming a critical enabler of year-round business operations.

Integrated AV platforms allow operators to reconfigure spaces quickly, maintain consistent user experiences, and support a wider variety of events without extensive technical intervention. The result is greater flexibility for venue managers and new opportunities to generate value beyond the sporting calendar.

While football remains at the heart of Spotify Camp Nou, the technology supporting the venue is designed for much more than match day. By creating adaptable spaces backed by a unified AV ecosystem, the project demonstrates how modern stadiums can better serve fans, businesses, and the surrounding community throughout the year.

As expectations continue to grow for flexible, multi-purpose venues, projects like Espai Barça illustrate how integrated AV is helping redefine what today’s sports facilities can become.
