You’ve been in that room.
The board is assembled. The client is on screen from overseas. And the display is cycling through a handshake loop it shouldn’t still be doing in 2026. Someone looks up. Not at the screen. At you. Because you own this.
The troubleshooting tree runs automatically in your head: the adapter, the firmware version, the USB-C chain. You isolate it in ninety seconds. You fix it in two minutes. But the meeting has already lost its momentum, and so, quietly, have you.
This is not a technology problem. This is what happens when the infrastructure underneath a collaboration program was never built to match the scale it was eventually asked to serve.
For most IT and AV directors managing enterprise meeting room estates, this is deeply familiar. That’s why 2026 is shaping up to be the year the industry is meeting the reality you have been living for the better part of three years.
A Storm That Was Always Coming
The pressures converging on IT and AV teams right now did not appear overnight. They are the accumulated consequence of a series of decisions made quickly, under duress, in a period when ‘good enough’ was the only available standard.

Large and extra-large spaces present the next layer of complexity. Many were deferred during the initial wave of video enablement precisely because they were harder and more expensive to get right. Now they are the next frontier. And they carry proportionally higher stakes. A stumble in a huddle room is an inconvenience. A stumble in a boardroom or a high-stakes client space is something you answer for.
Return-to-office mandates have added urgency to a timeline that was already tight. IT teams that had eighteen months to plan a thoughtful fleet refresh now have six.
