    Hong Kong Jockey Club Expands Intercom Infrastructure With Riedel Artist-1024 and 1200 Series SmartPanels

    Riedel Communications today announced that the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), one of Asia’s most prestigious horse racing organizations, has significantly upgraded its communications backbone with a future-ready intercom system serving Sha Tin and Happy Valley racecourses and the Sha Tin Communications & Technology Centre (SCTC) studio. Delivered in close collaboration with systems integrator New Digital Technology Holdings Ltd., the project builds on HKJC’s successful use of Riedel’s Bolero wireless intercom since 2018 and establishes a unified platform for both wired and wireless communications. This milestone also marks the first deployment of a SMPTE ST 2022-7 redundant Artist structure in Hong Kong, integrating Artist-1024 with HKJC’s existing Artist G2 infrastructure under tight timelines.

    The deployment includes two Artist-1024 frames and over thirty 1200 Series SmartPanels, forming the backbone of HKJC’s expanded intercom network. This system spans nine critical rooms, including audio server rooms, audio control rooms, and DV rooms at both racecourses, as well as three production control rooms at SCTC. Designed to support HKJC’s demanding live productions — which can run for eight hours nonstop on race days — the network delivers high-capacity, redundant connectivity using SMPTE ST 2022-7 and AES67 audio-over-IP. Integration with Dante ensures seamless routing of program audio, IFB, and commentary signals between the intercom system, audio mixers, and third-party devices.

    The upgrade also migrates HKJC’s Bolero wireless intercom to the new Artist-1024 backbone, creating a unified platform for wired and wireless communications. The 1200 Series SmartPanels provide advanced functionality such as individual key muting and alarm features, while Riedel’s Director software enables fast, intuitive configuration through a drag-and-drop interface — reducing downtime and simplifying workflows for directors and operators who frequently adjust key assignments.

    Prior to this upgrade, HKJC relied on an Artist G2 system and older intercom panels. The transition required careful integration to maintain compatibility with legacy panels, VoIP trunks, and call/conference functions, while eliminating single points of failure. The project also addressed technical challenges such as AES67 audio loss during stress tests and Dante clock synchronization issues, ensuring a stable and resilient system for race-day operations.

    Riedel Communications today announced that Berliner Ensemble, one of Berlin’s five major theater companies, has expanded its backstage communications and technical production workflows with Riedel Stage Systems. In collaboration with planning office MMT, the theater has implemented an integrated infrastructure that brings together intercom, signal distribution, recording and playout, and centralized operation and control capabilities for day-to-day theater production.

    Located in the historic Theater am Schiffbauerdamm, which dates back to 1892, Berliner Ensemble presents around 600 performances each year in addition to numerous guest performances in Germany and abroad. This demanding production schedule places high requirements on communication, coordination, and technical workflows behind the scenes.

    The Riedel solution connects key areas across the venue — from the stage and technical departments to the control room — and brings complex production workflows into a flexible, scalable, and centrally orchestrated environment tailored to the needs of theater operations. Artist intercom, SmartPanels, Bolero wireless beltpacks, MediorNet MicroN, SimplyLive, and hi human interface work together as an integrated Riedel Stage System.

    Artist, Bolero, and MediorNet form the communications and signal infrastructure at Berliner Ensemble. MediorNet connects the three buildings of the campus, enabling zero-latency video and audio signal distribution across the entire site, while SimplyLive supports efficient recording and playout workflows, particularly during rehearsals. hi human interface serves as the intuitive operating layer for stage management workflows, bringing together communication, monitoring, and control functions in a user interface designed for theater operations.

    Riedel’s 1200 Series SmartPanels play a central role at Berliner Ensemble as multifunctional user interfaces. In addition to classic intercom applications, they enable control functions on the same panel and support control of third-party systems via the Control Panel App and hi human interface. This allows relevant applications and functions to be combined exactly where they are needed in daily production workflows.

    Even after completion of the installation, the infrastructure remains open for future requirements. Additional resources can be added permanently or on a production-by-production basis, including temporary rental equipment that can be seamlessly integrated into the existing Riedel environment.

    Riedel Communications Delivers Multivenue Communications and Network Infrastructure for the 2025 FISU Games

    Riedel Communications proudly served as the official partner for the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, delivering a comprehensive Managed Technology service spanning communications and network infrastructure for all event venues and the International Broadcast Center (IBC). The Riedel team ensured seamless connectivity and flawless coordination across one of the largest multisport events of the year, including the spectacular opening and closing ceremonies.

    Staged across multiple cities in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr region, the 2025 FISU Games required a highly reliable and scalable backbone to support operations in 23 sports venues and at the IBC in Essen. The Managed Technology team provided internet connectivity, intercom, and radio systems, along with remote monitoring and operational support.

    “Our team established a robust network infrastructure featuring approximately 53 kilometers of temporary multicore fiber-optic cables, linking all venues via a central fiber network. At the IBC, we set up a dedicated network operation center (NOC) staffed with experts to monitor and manage all systems in real time,” said Lukas Stellmacher, Senior Project Manager at Riedel Communications. “Despite the tight planning timeline of just eight weeks, the entire network was implemented smoothly and efficiently. Given the complexity and scale of this project, completing the setup without major issues is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team.”

    At the heart of the event’s operational success was a collaborative communications ecosystem in which Riedel technology played a central role. Across all venues and the IBC, Artist intercom systems, Bolero wireless units, SmartPanels, and MediorNet media nodes were deployed by Riedel and other specialist teams from the broadcast and event production sectors. For specific competitions, Riedel’s Bolero S RefComms system was implemented in agile standalone mode to provide reliable referee communications. Riedel’s close cooperation with all technical partners ensured all systems were seamlessly connected into a unified network bridging multiple production domains.

    For production radio, 2,000 Motorola MXP600 devices operated on a Tetra network comprising 20 DAMM and Motorola systems. This setup supported 300 radio groups in 28 zones, enabling clear and reliable voice communication for staff and security. Riedel’s Juggler technology linked the Tetra radios, Bolero wireless units, and Artist intercom systems into a single interoperable platform.

    Riedel’s role also encompassed comprehensive IT services. A central IT network interconnected all locations, supporting intercom, internet access points, and specialized applications such as audio description, which were controlled and monitored remotely from the IBC. The team also supplied 450 laptops, 50 tablets, and 130 networked multifunction printers across operational areas, providing the technological backbone for logistical and administrative workflows.
