  • Carousel Digital Signage Scales School Spirit for Minnesota K-12 District

Carousel Digital Signage Scales School Spirit for Minnesota K-12 District

Carousel Digital Signage is helping high schools in Minnesota’s fourth-largest district elevate communications with Carousel Cloud software. Serving roughly 29,000 students in the southern suburbs of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Independent School District 196 is acclaimed for the quality of its academics, arts, and athletics programs.

At Eagan High School just south of Minneapolis, migrating to digital signage communications was necessary due to the sheer number of events taking place any given week. The school is buzzing day and night with classes, sports practices, and theatre rehearsals, as well as community activities—all of which must keep students, staff, and other participants informed about meetings, opportunities, and events. Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minn., also needs an intuitive method for delivering up-to-the-minute news about its various goings-on, and to celebrate individual student achievements.

All of this drove the decision to invest in Carousel Cloud digital signage management software to support the displays positioned throughout the two facilities.

“In a school district of our size, communication is all-important. We use digital communication simply because there are so many things going on in our schools,” said Paul Saxton, broadcast journalism teacher at Eagan High School. “Carousel Cloud is powerful, yet easy to use. It lets us get all that information out in a dynamic, engaging format.”

  • Carousel Digital Signage Graces the Hallways of Catholic PreK-8 School in Minnesota

Carousel Digital Signage Graces the Hallways of Catholic PreK-8 School in Minnesota

Carousel Digital Signage has helped Our Lady of Grace Catholic School, a PreK-8 school serving students in the Edina, Minnesota area transition from a PowerPoint program to a Carousel Cloud network, providing a professional digital signage experience to students, faculty and visitors as they move through the building. The Carousel Cloud network is now live on 10 screens in hallways, offices and common areas, with an additional five or more end points expected through the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

Our Lady of Grace Catholic School opened in 1949 with eight rooms, and has flourished over the years through the support of the vibrant Parish community. Today, the school enrolls more than 890 students, with the Our Lady of Grace Parish expanding the school’s facilities and education programs in alignment with its growth.

With its growing student body and supportive Catholic community of parents and faculty came the need to improve communication to all relevant audiences, from sharing classroom and workshop activities that highlight student achievements to helping parents navigate the building during special events. While the school’s digital signage program is generally modest, the fact that it’s a one-person show made ease of use a top priority.

Enter Carousel Cloud, which provides a robust set of channel designs and templates through its Carousel Content Library that helps customers quickly launch, update and scale their Carousel Cloud networks. The templates have also made it easy to create content that aligns with the school’s branding, including colors (notably a special shade of purple) and fonts along with a special logo that celebrates the school’s 75th anniversary.

“Carousel offers K12 templates in their Education Collection that makes it easy for me to quickly create professional-looking content that is easy to read and absorb,” said Jackie Gartland, Specialist Teacher, Technology for Our Lady of Grace Catholic School. “That includes the ability to create content from home. I only have so much time available during the school day and my priority is to focus on teaching, and since I handle all network operations the ability to create content and manage the network from home means that our digital signage remains up to date instead of languishing on the backburner.”

Gartland says that on most days the network includes four slides that self-update, and can update bulletins “in about ten minutes,” She points to Carousel’s seamless integration with third-party data and RSS feeds as another win for efficiency, as weather, news and other sources feed into the network with automatic updates to screens. That includes a Saints of the Day RSS feed that provides a daily dose of faith and inspiration for students and faculty alike.

Gartland adds that adding new end points to the Carousel Cloud network is made simpler through its integration with Apple TV devices, which serve as media players for the network. “Our next screen will go live win the 7th grade common area,” she said. “All we really need to do is insert the Carousel app onto the Apple TV, and log into our account. We immediately have a new digital signage end point in place. It’s really that simple.”

  • Carousel Digital Signage Engages Customers at Tennessee Telco

Carousel Digital Signage Engages Customers at Tennessee Telco

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Carousel Digital Signage is changing the way that Highland Telephone Cooperative (HTC) communicates with customers visiting its four rural Tennessee facilities. The member-owned telecommunications company, which offers phone, high-speed internet and cable TV service, recently deployed a Carousel Cloud digital signage network to provide information on its product and service offerings. Customers can monitor the screens as they pay bills and consult with company representatives.

Headquartered in Sunbright, Tennessee, HTC employees have spent the last 14 months working from home. The company wanted to create an inviting atmosphere upon reopening that would entice customers to resume transactions and consultations in their local offices.

HTC Network Engineer Daniel Williams turned to digital signage as an efficient and engaging way to welcome returning customers with an energized lobby aesthetic. Each lobby includes a large-screen TV mounted to face the front entrance, and Williams configured Apple TVs as media players with help from Jamf, a Carousel Digital Signage partner that specializes in helping businesses optimize the Apple experience.

Williams is using Carousel Cloud’s user-friendly CMS to create and manage content for three channels. Content includes animated videos of HTC and subsidiary logos, dynamic product and service pricing, customer payment options, and third-party feeds including local up-to-date weather reports.

Williams says he was surprised at how easy the Carousel Cloud system was to set up and configure, noting that its secure and reliable software is an important benefit for any IT manager or technician concerned with adding digital signage to a company network.

“I had the entire system securely installed on the network and ready to go within hours, and the user interface was so intuitive that no training was required,” he said. “The software is flexible to the point that we can customize the appearance of screens and are not restricted to standard templates. Anyone who has used a web-based UI builder will have no problem whatsoever creating and managing content in Carousel Cloud.”

Carousel Digital Signage’s partnership with Jamf was a competitive differentiator for Williams, who had long been leveraging the company’s services to manage the HTC’s Apple devices. “We work with both Macs and PCs in our offices, and Jamf has made it easy to manage our entire Apple ecosystem in a mixed environment. Their ability to convert Apple TVs into media players reduces our equipment costs, and the Apple TV is a perfect complement for Carousel Cloud networks since they are essentially IT devices.”

HTC’s digital signage network remains in its early stages, but Williams hopes to expand into providing corporate communications content for company employees.

“We use static bulletin boards in the majority of our locations to disseminate information to employees,” he said. “We plan to use Carousel Cloud to distribute this information in a more streamlined manner in the near future. With such a user-friendly interface and IT-centric infrastructure, Carousel Cloud will make it very easy to scale the network and add new channels.”
