International Women’s Day 2024: PPDS staff discuss ways the company is embracing diversity and engineering new career opportunities for all

PPDS, the provider of Philips Professional Displays and complementary solutions, has partnered with Deutsche Telekom, a telecommunications company, to develop new commercial opportunities using Philips Tableaux ePaper displays.

PPDS, the exclusive global provider of Philips Professional Displays, advocates for equality and gender diversity in the workplace. They prioritize treating every employee equally regardless of background, gender, nationality, etc. They have seen a positive trend of more females entering the AV industry and are actively promoting diversity and inclusivity in their teams.

PPDS believes in creating an inclusive and diverse work environment where all employees feel valued and have equal opportunities. They recognize the importance of gender parity and are actively working towards it by promoting diversity in their teams, encouraging more women to join the AV industry, and fostering a culture of equality and inclusivity.

PPDS, the exclusive global provider of Philips Professional Displays, is a firm industry advocate for promoting equality and gender diversity in the workplace. Today, PPDS continues to see positive trends in the number of females pursuing a career in the AV industry, with the number of female employees operating in some of its biggest global sales regions now outnumbering those of males.

Since its inception, PPDS has adopted and acted on a strong global business philosophy that every employee will be treated equally in employment and occupation regardless of personal background, race, gender, nationality, age, sexual preference, or religious belief.

Recent official figures from ISE 2024, have shown a marginal increase in female attendees but PPDS believes more can and should be done. ISE 2024 recorded attendance numbers of 73,891, of which 24,815 were first-time visitors. Figures show 81.5 per cent of those attendees were male, with 16.6 per cent female, and 1.9 per cent non-binary or preferring not to say.

By comparison, at ISE 2023, there were 58,107 attendees, of which 15, 255 were first-time visitors. Figures show 82.6 per cent of those were male, with 15 per cent female.

“We thrive on their differences, using them to challenge boundaries and celebrate them for the unique advantages they bring”

For International Women’s Day 2024 (March 8) – a day to celebrate the achievements of females and to raise awareness of discrimination, driving gender parity since 1911 – PPDS team members have come together to share their views and experiences on how PPDS is embracing diversity in its global teams, and the positive impact being achieved.

Nadia Riahi, Sales Manager Philips Digital Signage, DACH

“Having joined PPDS reasonably recently, it is wonderful to witness our teams from around the globe come together. Whether at our annual kick off, or at events like ISE, everyone is included equally – no matter where they come from, what their position is, or who they are. This is a great enabler for all.”

Ellie East, Key Accounts Manager, UK

“Working in the AV industry for nearly two decades, it has been a pleasure to see real positive changes and more inclusivity all around. There is still a long way to go, of course, but seeing more women thriving in tech – and greater diversity in general – will be great inspiration for future generations entering the sector. I’m glad to be a part of it, here at PPDS.”

Martijn van der Woude, VP Global Marketing and Business Development:

“As a global team, we have a huge range of different backgrounds, experiences and ways of thinking about business and life. At PPDS, everyone belongs. We thrive on their differences, using them to challenge boundaries and celebrating them for the unique advantages they bring. Together we are team PPDS: supportive, innovative and agile.”

“If you look at our sales teams in France, Germany and UK today, we now have a 40/60 per cent split in favour of women”

Vicky Fox, Head of Global Communications

“From the perspective of a global organisation, diversity in the workforce is happening quite naturally. Fundamentally, it’s about bringing in the best people for the job. Their gender or how they choose to identify has no bearing on this process. We as a business work hard to ensure we attract the right candidates and offer the best possible career opportunities and, in a positive shift, increasingly we’re seeing more women applying to join our teams, which is great.

“For example, if you look at our UK sales managers today, we now have a 60/40 per cent split in favour of women, and we have similar ratios in Germany and France. And within our global marketing operation, for example, the split is 76 per cent women.

    Local for local

PPDS is also continuing to strengthen its ‘local for local’ strategy, which is seeing the company extend its manufacturing of displays to support local markets and communities. Not only fulfilling PPDS’ sustainability objectives and ambitions, the strategy is helping to promote careers in AV, with new job opportunities, together with qualified training.

“By choosing to have our displays manufactured more locally, it not only helps us from a sustainability perspective but helps to boost jobs in different communities,” Vicky continued. “This, as we are seeing, is helping to raise awareness, drive interest and enable a more diverse mix of people to pursue and begin a career in AV. The results are hugely pleasing. At PPDS, everyone is welcome.”

PPDS connects with Deutsche Telekom AG developing commercial opportunity with Philips Tableaux ePaper displays

PPDS, the provider of Philips Professional Displays and complementary solutions, has partnered with Deutsche Telekom, a telecommunications company, to develop new commercial opportunities using Philips Tableaux ePaper displays.

PPDS and Deutsche Telekom share a focus on sustainability and reducing energy consumption. The partnership aims to leverage the energy-efficient features of Philips Tableaux ePaper displays to offer more sustainable digital out-of-home communications.

The partnership involves integrating Philips Tableaux ePaper displays into Deutsche Telekom’s digital out-of-home ecosystem, facilitated by Tennagels Medientechnik, a leading system integrator. The displays, powered by E Ink technology, offer static images with no light emissions and minimal power consumption, enabling targeted communications managed remotely. This collaboration will enable Deutsche Telekom to extend its digital outdoor marketing capabilities while supporting its sustainability ambitions.

PPDS, the exclusive global provider of Philips Professional Displays and complementary solutions, is delighted to announce a landmark partnership with Deutsche Telekom, developing new commercial opportunities with Philips Tableaux ePaper displays.

Deutsche Telekom has selected the groundbreaking Philips Tableaux ePaper Series as part of plans to extend and expand upon its digital out of home (DOOH) communications.

PPDS and Deutsche Telekom are deeply aligned in their focus on sustainability, with both companies taking a holistic view of the environmental impact of their products, services and activities, a synergy that played a key role in the partnership.

    Pioneers in sustainability

In 2023, PPDS broke new ground for display technology, by becoming the world’s first leading display manufacturer to introduce full colour, large format, 16:9 ePaper digital signage. The Philips Tableaux range includes the multi-award-winning 25.3” Philips Tableaux 4150, and the recently unveiled 32” Philips Tableaux 5150. The full Philips Tableaux range has been developed with PPDS’ technology partner, E Ink, the originator, pioneer, and global leader in ePaper technology.

Hailed as the world’s most energy efficient digital signage offering – displaying a static image with no light emissions and only using very minimal power when remotely managing the display, such as changing the image – the system will be able to display targeted communications 24/7, managed entirely remotely from a central location.

Martijn van der Woude, VP Global Marketing and Business Development, said: “Sustainability in operations is of growing importance for business everywhere, as is reducing energy consumption. Developing new opportunities with our Philips Tableaux ePaper displays, we can offer the advertising industry a new era of more sustainable digital out of home communications.”

“Philips Tableaux displays show a static image with no light emissions and zero power, and needing only super low power when the image is changed out. What is more, with our Android SoC and Power over Ethernet included as standard on all new models, these displays are also PPDS Wave ready, allowing remote device and content management and all the efficiencies that come together with that. It is a privilege to collaborate with Deutsche Telekom and Tennagels to develop new commercial opportunities with these groundbreaking displays.”

Teamwork Working together with Tennagels Medientechnik – a leading system integrator and valued PPDS partner based in Düsseldorf – Deutsche Telekom will be able to design a completely new inventory line. The integration of Philips Tableaux ePaper displays into the Deutsche Telekom digital out of home ecosystem is scheduled to start in summer 2024 with a field test in Germany.

Nadia Riahi, Sales Manager Signage DE at PPDS, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Deutsche Telekom, helping them achieve an ambition that simply wasn’t possible before we introduced the Philips Tableaux Series into the market. Together with Tennagels Medientechnik, our trusted and valued partner, we have been able to demonstrate our capabilities to one of the world’s top telecom brands, and we can’t wait to see the first Philips Tableaux displays appear this year. I am delighted to be involved in this exciting project and believe that this is a great step into the technological future for more sustainable signage solutions.”

Michael Tölle, Head of Media & Analytics at Telekom Deutschland, added: “Philips Tableaux ePaper displays based on the E Ink Spectra™ 6 platform offer the most sustainable way to digitise the out of home advertising on our outdoor housings as they come with no light emission and almost zero energy consumption. We are looking forward testing the 32” Tableaux ePapers in the next month together with PPDS and Tennagels Medientechnik to jointly customise the product to our business.”

Sven Beinlich, International Key Account Director at PPDS, concluded: “At PPDS, our aim is always to lead from the front, delivering innovation that brings new opportunities and new capabilities to businesses. Deutsche Telekom is a perfect example of this, allowing them to extend and even monetise their digital outdoor marketing, while also supporting them in their sustainability ambitions. We look forward to working with Deutsche Telekom on this exciting project and thank them for choosing PPDS and Philips Tableaux.”

Thomas Tennagels, founder of Tennagels Medientechnik, added: “Tennagels will develop a customised enclosure that is specifically tailored to the requirements of the Telekom Digital Signage concept and to those

for the Philips Tableaux epaper display. Our engineers will not only focus on protection from the elements in any climate, but will also design the solution to be vandal-proof for unprotected public outdoor areas.”

For Tennagels, the challenges include designing a display housing that can be perfectly adapted to the existing Telekom Multifunctional Housing, thus fitting seamlessly into the overall appearance of the Telekom digital signage solution. And not only functionally, such as ensuring the electromagnetic compatibility of the existing sensitive Telekom technology, but also easy to maintain and aesthetically pleasing.

He continued: “Through this innovative integration of indoor ePaper displays into the digital signage concept, Telekom will benefit from a high quality, energy efficient, and vandal-proof digital display product. This partnership between Tennagels, Telekom, and PPDS marks a significant step towards future oriented digitalisation and underlines the commitment of all three companies to innovation and customer satisfaction.”
