    Samsung Expands Eco-Conscious Signage Offerings with 13” Color E-Paper

    Samsung Electronics America has introduced a new 13-inch Color E-Paper display (EM13DX) in the U.S., expanding its eco-conscious signage portfolio for retail, hospitality, and workplace environments. Designed as a compact alternative to printed signage, the display uses digital ink technology to deliver paper-like visuals with ultra-low power consumption, using energy only when content is updated. This enables businesses to easily refresh menus, promotions, and internal communications without recurring printing costs or operational delays.

    The new model is A4-sized, lightweight, and flexible for deployment across various touchpoints like counters, shelves, and lobbies. It also emphasizes sustainability, featuring a housing made from recycled plastic and bio-resin derived from phytoplankton, along with fully paper-based packaging. Content can be managed locally via the Samsung E-Paper App or remotely through Samsung’s VXT platform, allowing centralized control, real-time updates, and accurate content previewing for efficient digital signage operations.

    Samsung Electronics America today announced the U.S. launch of the 13-inch Samsung Color E-Paper (EM13DX), expanding its Color E-Paper lineup with a compact display designed for retail, restaurant, hospitality, and workplace environments.

    Combining advanced digital ink technology and ultra-low-power operation, the display provides a practical alternative to traditional printed signage. Businesses can quickly refresh promotions, menus, schedules, employee updates or customer messaging without the time and operational effort required to print and distribute new materials.

    The display’s vivid, paper-like visuals ensure that messaging is clear and engaging, helping businesses capture attention and communicate more effectively with customers and employees. The 13-inch Color E-Paper is also the world’s first display designed with a bio-resin housing derived from phytoplankton, marking a new step in sustainable product design.

    Flexible deployments across different environments

    Similarly sized to an A4 sheet of paper, the 13-inch Color E-Paper offers a versatile signage solution for a wide range of environments from retail shelves and restaurant counters to hotel lobbies and office workspaces. Its compact, lightweight design makes it easy to place where printed materials have traditionally been used, while also allowing businesses to update information in real time.

    Building on the success of Samsung’s 32-inch Color E-Paper, this new 13-inch model expands deployment possibilities. Organizations can deploy digital signage to more locations and use cases than ever before, from small counters and doors to high-traffic public spaces, while maintaining consistent, high-quality visuals and ultra-low power operation. Unlike static printed signs, the Color E-Paper content can be refreshed instantly, reducing the expense and time put toward regularly replacing paper signage – no more ordering, printing or manually replacing signs for promotions, menus, schedules or updates. Plus, flexible mounting options1 make it easy to reposition displays as layouts or promotions change.

    Eco-conscious signage with ultra-low power operation


    The 13-inch Color E-Paper is designed to help businesses meet their strategic objectives and environmental goals. The display maintains static images at zero watts, requiring energy only for content updates. This ultra-low-power operation helps minimize energy consumption while maintaining reliable image quality.

    The display’s housing has been independently verified by global safety and sustainability certification organization UL to contain 45% recycled plastic and 10% phytoplankton-based bio-resin. Compared with conventional petroleum-based plastics, this material innovation can reduce carbon emissions in manufacturing by more than 40%.

    Eco-conscious considerations extend to packaging as well. The Color E-Paper’s box, cushioning and accessory boxes are made from 100% paper, underscoring Samsung’s own commitment to environmental responsibility.

    Easy content management with Samsung E-Paper App and VXT

    Samsung Color E-Paper supports simple content management for both local and remote operation. The Samsung E-Paper App, available on Android and iOS devices, allows staff to update and manage content locally from mobile devices.

    The display is also compatible with Samsung Visual eXperience Transformation (VXT), Samsung’s cloud-based content and device management platform. VXT allows teams to remotely manage hardware settings, troubleshoot devices and create and deploy content from a centralized platform.

    For Color E-Paper deployments, VXT includes tools to preview content and check color accuracy before publishing, helping ensure messaging appears as intended.

    Shure’s president and CEO, Chris Schyvinck, will deliver the keynote address at the 2025 Sustainability in AV (SAVe) Global Conference, happening in Los Angeles on September 24-25. The event aims to gather industry leaders worldwide to discuss sustainable practices within the audiovisual sector, aligning with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Schyvinck will highlight Shure’s sustainability initiatives, such as their goal of achieving 90% recyclable and renewable packaging by 2025 and their efforts to reduce waste through smarter packaging and eco-friendly technologies.

    Shure’s sustainability strategy also includes successful recycling programs, partnerships with eco-conscious suppliers, and innovative solutions like rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which have transformed AV production. These actions, including the reduction of single-use AA batteries, are paving the way for a more sustainable AV industry. The company’s efforts show how environmental responsibility and business innovation can go hand-in-hand.

    Sustainability in AV (SAVe) has announced that Shure president and CEO Chris Schyvinck will be a keynote speaker at the 2025 SAVe Global Conference held in Los Angeles September 24-25.

    Sustainability in AV (SAVe) was founded in 2022 with the mission of bringing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals to the AV industry. SAVe is the first U.S.-based industry-wide organization of its kind, with a global mission and membership.

    The global conference will feature a number of different speakers from around the world, providing diverse insights about how various organizations can approach sustainability.

    “We’re excited to have Chris and all of our other speakers as part of our first annual global conference,” said Christina De Bono, founder and president of SAVe. “Now is the time for our growing international membership to gather and harness our momentum in bringing the Sustainable Development Goals to pro AV.”

    Held at UCLA’s Luskin Conference Center, the conference will offer networking, workshops, and industry leaders to inspire the industry do its part to meet growing sustainability responsibilities.

    “Sustainability in AV is everyone’s responsibility, and we’re proud to be involved with this global conference where others from around the world can share best practices and ideas for a better tomorrow,” said Schyvinck.

    Schyvinck will provide a deeper look at Shure’s initiatives, including how the Company achieved its goal of using 90 percent recyclable and/or renewable packaging for new products by the end of 2025 – one year ahead of its timeline.

    With more than 1,500 different packaging pieces for a variety of different products, converting to sustainable packaging is a significant undertaking. It is especially difficult for high-performance electronic equipment which is shipped to various locations globally to reach customers all over the world.

    Efforts to convert to more sustainable packaging include:

    • Replacing thermoform trays with more sustainable, recyclable alternatives such as molded pulp
    • Reducing overall plastic materials in packaging
    • Reducing the amount of literature that accompanies the products
    • Right-sizing packaging for greater efficiency and reduced carbon footprint from shipping and storage
    • Membership in the Sustainable Packaging Coalition

    Shure’s other sustainability initiatives include:

    • Robust recycling programs for cardboard boxes and wooden pallets at facilities, keeping literally “tons” of cardboard waste and nearly 5,000 wooden pallets out of landfills.
    • Working with suppliers who take action on sustainability, including suppliers who use solar power and recycled water in their operations.
    • Pioneering rechargeable batteries in AV. Nearly a decade ago, Shure began offering intelligent lithium-ion batteries for wireless microphones, revolutionizing sound production into a more eco-friendly process. This rechargeable technology is quickly being adopted by concert halls, arenas, theaters, meeting rooms, schools, houses of worship, and many other venues.
    • By 2027, Shure’s rechargeable batteries are projected to prevent more than 100 million AA batteries from ending up in landfills.
    • Shure has also engineered its products to minimize overall power consumption, incorporating energy-saving “down” modes and allowing remote power monitoring through software.
