    Walmart has launched its new Walmart TV Studio within its expansive, newly opened Home Office campus in Bentonville, Arkansas, featuring a high-performance curved LED wall from Alfalite. The installation consists of a 10×4-meter (13’x32’) Alfalite ModularPix Pro 1.5 ORIM 1/16 VP XR LED screen, equipped with Brompton processing, and serves as the dynamic centerpiece of the studio’s virtual production environment.

    The 160-panel Alfalite LED wall is designed for seamless integration into extended reality (XR) and virtual production workflows, allowing Walmart TV (WMTV)—Walmart’s internal broadcast network—to create immersive video content with unparalleled flexibility. The curved screen delivers a resolution of 6400×2560 pixels and benefits from Alfalite’s exclusive ORIM technology, which enhances durability, improves viewing angles to nearly 170 degrees, and provides exceptional color reproduction and brightness.

    Thanks to the brightness and colorimetry of its ModularPix Pro panels, WMTV’s videowall is XR-capable, enabling the seamless integration of digital elements with the physical world. The curved wall displays virtual environments or changing scenes in real-time, allowing presenters and cameras to interact effortlessly with digital content.

    “The Alfalite wall, with its 1.5mm pixel pitch, features ORIM technology, which helps protect it from impact and fire damage,” said Dave Magnia, Chief Engineer AV/Broadcast Engineering at Walmart Inc. “ORIM also does something rather unique—it increases the viewing angle to nearly 170 degrees. The color reproduction and brightness are outstanding. When people walk into the studio, they are amazed at the image quality. The downtime saved while changing out physical sets versus a virtual one is a game changer in our new TV studio. A few clicks, and a new virtual set is ready to go for the next video project.”

    The installation was made possible through Alfalite’s partnership with FOR-A America, which facilitated the project’s integration and delivery. The Walmart TV Studio now benefits from Alfalite’s advanced LED display technology, enhancing both internal and external video productions.

    Walmart’s New Home Office campus in Northwest Arkansas is a 350-acre sustainably designed workplace to serve as the heartbeat of the world’s largest company. This campus establishes a new standard for corporate headquarters that prioritizes worker well-being, environmental stewardship, and public accessibility.

    Since the launch of Aviator Automation in March 2024, the power of the platform has been demonstrated in numerous real-world deployments. In a recent cloud-based project, Imagine Communications partnered with a major broadcaster to successfully deploy 10 fully integrated broadcast channels in record time — without disrupting existing channels. Using Aviator Automation and Aviator Orchestrator, the channels were launched with dynamic scalability, on-demand resource allocation, and full end-to-end workflow integration. The templated architecture of Aviator Orchestrator ensured rapid configuration and consistent deployment across all channels, while Docker containerization provided secure, scalable infrastructure management.

    A sustainable approach to innovation
    Global sports brand ASICS was founded in 1949 with the objective of nurturing youth and the development of society through sports.     Advanced 3D visualisation of new footwear samples
    The challenge of creating digital footwear samples that accurately represent the actual product is described by Mr. Shintaro Nagata, a member of the footwear Digital Technology Team at ASICS. “Within my department that’s responsible for shoe development and design, we established a digital technology team in 2020. We began the task of creating digital samples that realistically represent shoes in digital space.

    “Our primary goal was sustainability. By using 3D technology to create three-dimensional images of shoes, we aimed to reduce the production of physical samples. One day, while exploring opportunities to use these 3D models in sales and marketing, we received a proposal from Sony Music Solutions to use Spatial Reality Displays (SRD). Intrigued by their demo, we decided to explore initiatives incorporating 3D models together.”

    Natural 3D images with no glasses needed
    Sony’s ELF-SR2 Spatial Reality Displays (SRD) opens up exciting possibilities for creating and displaying 3D content. The 27-inch display offers extremely high resolution, bright, natural-looking 3D spatial images. Exclusive eye tracking technology senses the position of the viewer’s eyes, presenting immersive images from a wide range of viewing angles with no need to wear special glasses.

    3D models showcase shoes’ inner structures
    The display’s 4K resolution and subtle contrast adjustments allows details such as shoe shape and material textures to be realistically reproduced in 3D, including surface glossiness. The ASICS team was particularly impressed by the ability of the ELF-SR2 to display shoes at life-size with remarkable realism. “We decided to adopt the SRD, seeing it as a new way to make effective use of 3D models” states Mr Nagata. “Using SRD in showrooms or at PR events gives clients and end users an enhanced understanding of the shoes’ internal structures. This allowed us to repurpose 3D data created for development into other contexts effectively.”

    Giving greater insight to store visitors
    The ELF-SR2 has been used to promote latest models from the company’s METASPEED™ running shoe series at ASICS Harajuku Flagship and ASICS Run Tokyo Marunouchi stores. “While physical samples convey the appeal of the new products to store visitors, giving an understanding of the shoes’ internal structures is more challenging” explains Mr Nagata. “We showcased 3D models of shoes tailored for different running techniques, enabling comparison between their essential functions.”

    Vertical display and gesture controls enhance user experience
    While Spatial Reality Displays are typically angled at 45°, ASICS has opted to position the ELF-SR2 displays vertically. This makes more efficient use of retail store space, while maintaining excellent image depth and usability.

    Viewing of the 3D models is further enhanced with an SRD-compatible app that allows gesture controls using Leap Motion hand sensors. “Sony Music Solutions supported us throughout the planning process” confirms Mr Nagata. “This included fixture production and UI/UX development. We’re grateful for their advice and assistance.”

    Saving space and promoting sustainability
    Using SRD to show beautifully realistic 3D models reduces the need to produce samples of all colour variations of a shoe for display in exhibitions and showrooms. “In the future, we believe that we will be able to exhibit all models in a space-saving manner” notes Mr Nagata. “Reducing the number of samples produced can further contribute to our goal of promoting sustainability.”

    Saving time and enhancing quality
    As Mr Nagata explains, ASICS is now also considering use of the display system in its product development process. “When reviewing initial designs with stakeholders, by showing them more realistic and detailed 3D models, we can expect to improve the quality of feedback. We also expect to shorten the process. For example, we currently produce physical samples two or three times during development, but by using SRD we may be able to skip a stage of sample production. As well as contributing to sustainability, this would also greatly reduce the time required for production that currently takes around a month.”

    DraftKings sought to create a flagship location for its daily fantasy sports and sports betting enthusiasts, set against the historic backdrop of one of America’s oldest ballparks – Wrigley Field. The goal was to craft a space that blended the historic charm of Wrigley with cutting-edge technology, delivering an immersive sports-watching and betting experience. The result? A venue where fans could wager on baseball and a wide range of sports, including Premier League, NASCAR, UFC and more – all under one roof.

    DraftKings envisioned a venue where technology met tradition. At the core of this transformation was an expansive 2,000-square-foot curved LED display that was a focal point of the venue. This massive screen would simultaneously bring 25 games into view, offering stunning clarity with a resolution of 16,320 x 1,800. This ambitious vision required a display that could live up to the grandeur of the location while maintaining the historical integrity of Wrigley Field – a task only achievable through the cutting-edge solutions provided by Nanolumens.

    Nanolumens’ Nixel Flex Series was the key to bringing DraftKings’ vision to life. This flexible, customizable display technology offered the ability to create a curved screen that measured an astounding 134 feet wide by 15 feet high, featuring nearly 30 million pixels. The curvature of the display, coupled with its ultra-slim profile, allowed for seamless integration into the existing architecture, ensuring that this modern technology didn’t overshadow the historic aesthetic of Wrigley Field.

    The project wasn’t without its challenges. As a landmark over a century old, Wrigley Field required multiple layers of approvals from organizations like the National Park Service, the State Historic Preservation Office and the Commission on Chicago Landmarks. Gensler, the architectural firm behind the project, collaborated closely with these bodies to ensure that the integrity of Wrigley Field was maintained while introducing state-of-the-art technology.

    “This project was, without a doubt, an extraordinary undertaking,” said Ken Newbury, senior vice president of technology and engineering for McCann Systems. “Nanolumens became involved early in the process, collaborating closely with the architects and designers. Strict architectural standards were enforced to align with Wrigley’s historic design, and to address these requirements, McCann and Nanolumens developed a custom bracket system, leveraging a 3D scan of the space to ensure seamless connectivity and functionality. Vertical posts and custom beam clamps were engineered to support the fully suspended installation, which features a dual-concave curve – a feat particularly challenging in a setting as unique as Wrigley.”

    Newbury added, “While the LED installation itself was straightforward, the structural design and precise execution presented a one-of-a-kind challenge. Ultimately, with careful planning from Nanolumens, Gensler and McCann, and strategic design during the build phase, even the commissioning process was simplified, ensuring a smooth and successful implementation.”

    The end result was a seamless blend of old and new, where the DraftKings sportsbook appeared as an organic part of the ballpark’s infrastructure. The Nixel Flex display stretches from the ceiling to just a few feet above the bar area, offering a 178-degree viewing angle that ensures every fan in the venue has a perfect view, whether they are on the ground floor or the upper levels. This wasn’t just about creating a massive screen; it was about enhancing the fan experience. The display’s ability to simultaneously showcase up to 25 games, alongside real-time betting odds, scores, and other sports data, made it an essential part of the sportsbook’s appeal.

    Jeff Denlea, vice president of hospitality strategy for Levy at Wrigley Field, said it best: “This is unique to the entire Midwest. The closest thing you get to this is Vegas.” The DraftKings sportsbook has successfully brought the excitement of Las Vegas sports betting to Chicago, giving sports fans an unparalleled experience in a location steeped in history.

    A leader in design & technology, the University of Central Florida (UCF) has been named by Niche.com as one of the top 20 most-applied-to colleges in 2019. Located in Orlando’s Creative Village, the UCF Downtown 15-acre campus features the latest audiovisual innovations in a welcoming environment for 21st-century learning.

    BRAVIA makes an instant impact

    In total, over 120 Sony BRAVIA 4K professional displays are featured across four UCF buildings. When students walk into the main campus building, the Dr. Phillips Academic Commons (DPAC), they’re greeted by BRAVIA 4K HDR professional displays in each breakout room, where students can plug in their laptops to share content with the rest of the group. Twenty-two 55-inch BRAVIA displays plus a further twenty 65-inch models are used for digital signage, as well as in group meeting rooms. Additional displays in multi-screen active learning classrooms give added visibility for teaching materials. 75-inch and 85-inch BRAVIA displays also feature in conference rooms, where they’re integrated with a Crestron Mercury system.

    Enhancing on-campus visual appeal

    Working with UCF, Sony created a custom application that replaces BRAVIA’s default standby screen with custom images or videos to brighten the room or promote college events. Via the display’s embedded Meeting Free app, BRAVIA displays information even when screens are in standby mode.

    “Before, these displays were just black screens that were visible from the outside,” states Don Merritt, Director of UCF’s Office of Instructional Resources. “That big black rectangle hanging on the wall didn’t present an interesting look as you walk into the impressive lobby of DPAC. “We’ve used other manufacturers in other spaces, but this is the first time we found a way to improve the visual engagement with the displays when they weren’t being used.” Merritt also reports seeing students connect their portable consoles to play games while taking study breaks in the rooms.

    “Previously some of the displays would show the status—like ‘HDMI-2’—on the screen, and it just didn’t look good,” confirms Scott Pritchett, Manager of Multimedia Services at UCF. “Now, as soon as I enter in the morning, the active screens really enhance the overall look of the building.” Merritt and Pritchett also report positive feedback on how BRAVIA adds to the attractiveness of the lobby area.

    Plug-and-play simplicity

    The displays are easy to use, with all inputs within easy reach to reduce worries about them being damaged or broken in everyday use. Students simply connect their laptops; BRAVIA automatically selects the source and displays what’s on the student’s screen, eliminating the need for a remote controller that can potentially get lost.

    UCF has also taken advantage of BRAVIA’s power-scheduling feature, which allows displays to be automatically turned off at night and on again in the morning. As well as conserving energy, this saves staff time, since no-one needs to be physically present to switch screens on and off.

    Stimulating fresh thinking

    “We’re always looking for ways to support the activities that our faculty and students want to do,” says Merritt. “One thing I’m looking forward to is seeing how a dynamic display impacts the ideas that our students come up with on how to use these things in the first place. We often make assumptions about how non-tech people are going to use devices that we’ve put into place. I’m very excited to see what people will do with these systems when they look like living, active displays, instead of just the big black monoliths that were hanging on the walls.”

    The school’s support from Sony has been noteworthy, confirms Merritt: “We all appreciated how willing Sony’s BRAVIA Professional Display group was to work with us. They’ve shown us new ways of using the displays that are even more beneficial than we first thought—and with no additional hardware; just the displays themselves.”

    Portland International Airport Upgrades Entire Display Network with Cutting Edge LG Solutions

    When Oregon’s largest airport, Portland International Airport (PDX), needed to upgrade flight information displays in the latest phase of a $2 billion “PDX Next” major upgrade and expansion to its main terminal, it was seeking a technology partner that could deliver on several critical requirements: enhanced traveler convenience, reduced installation and operational complexity, strengthened network security, and lower investment costs. Initiated in 2017, the goal of PDX Next was to streamline Portland International Airport’s main terminal check-in process, provide travelers with more room to roam, and make buildings more earthquake resilient. Anticipating a growth in footfall to 35 million travelers a year, PDX set out to expand the concourses, make ground transportation more convenient, and upgrade the main terminal, optimizing the space for sustainability, accessibility, and passenger wellbeing – with new technology, and particularly displays, at the heart of the upgrade. “Providing accurate, easy to read flight information is essential for making the traveler and employee experience at PDX great,” said Scott Shepler, Manager, Aviation Information Technology at PDX. “So, when we needed to replace our aging flight displays in the existing terminal and install new displays in the terminal expansion, we consulted with SITA, a global leader in air transport technology and our current FIDS provider. They helped us to rearchitect our display solution, eliminating the need for separate players and video transceivers, and driving content over Ethernet from our servers directly to the new displays. Key to the success of this architecture change was selecting a new display capable of safely and securely presenting web-based content over the network.”

    “The extensive range of secure, easy-to-maintain all-in-one LCD display units from global innovator LG Electronics provided the optimal solution,” he said. “Powered by the webOS SoC (system-on-chip) CMS platform and LG ConnectedCare, a robust cloud-based solution for remote monitoring and control of digital signage, these displays are helping PDX to continue to

    provide passengers with the most convenient, hassle-free travel experience possible.” A web-based multipurpose platform that supports a variety of solutions, webOS has high-performance SoC capabilities that enable multitasking and smooth content playback, enhancing user convenience through an intuitive user interface and simple app development tools. LG ConnectedCare is a cloud-based Software as a Service system that operates securely over the internet, eliminating the need for physical installation, making it an ideal complement to webOS.

    Easy Installation

    Shepler said the webOS and ConnectedCare systems enabled PDX to efficiently manage and maintain 378 newly installed LG LCD displays – ranging from 43 inches to 98 inches – while enhancing security from external security breaches.

    “We prioritize network security, and webOS and ConnectedCare secured the devices,” he added. “It allowed us to standardize the configuration, with all security settings predefined. We needed to prevent unauthorized access to the displays remotely, as well as block any potential misuse of USB ports or IR sensors within the airport. LG’s systems help reduce these risks.”

    The ConnectedCare system monitors all webOS displays within the airport locally, without the need for external computers. Each display and its content can be managed remotely.

    Simple and Secure

    “PDX wanted something simple and secure, and that’s what we delivered with our webOS system. Every display has a system-on-chip, managed through our remote management system, ConnectedCare,” said Daniel Verbsky, Transportation Account Manager at LG Electronics USA. “It’s our own operating system, our own security.”

    “Each screen is its own computer,” he explained. “Think of it as a large cell phone, but with enhanced security. You can’t just download an app from an app store; display engine content platforms integrate via local URL or LG-partnered developer applications. This setup eliminates the need for additional licensing or capital expenditures.

    “Our systems addressed the security concerns that PDX had,” Verbsky continued. “When a security breach impacted 90 percent of U.S. airports, this wasn’t an issue with our webOS

    because we’re independent of that system. Portland’s display system was unaffected by the breach, and they’re very pleased.”

    Comprehensive Survey

    Verbsky worked closely with Chris Darling, Product Manager, Information Display Systems at SITA, on the project. They commissioned a comprehensive on-site survey and developed a 30-page report, which included scaled renderings of all specified LG LCD displays throughout the facility. SITA, an LG collaborator and official signage developer, had already been discussing with PDX stakeholders the replacement of all media players and leveraging its own application platform, making it a natural progression to specify LG displays, webOS and ConnectedCare.

    “The project with PDX began many years ago with the new terminal build,” said Darling. “Their goal was to simplify their solution by eliminating the need for content players. They wanted displays that reduced hardware requirements and moved to a URL-based solution, allowing them to show the same content used on previous hardware.”

    SITA has been developing its own webOS-based display engine for many years with LG’s support and has worked with PDX for over six years on demos and solutions, ensuring that everything functioned “as it should,” according to Darling. But he said it wasn’t just LG’s technology and solutions, nor their collaborative relationship with the manufacturer that convinced him LG was ideal for this installation—it was also the after-sales support.

    “One of the things we really value in our vendors is their support after sales, and LG has always been very strong in this area,” he explained. “From what I’ve heard from the teams involved, it’s been a smooth experience.”

    Engine Platform

    SITA developed the display engine platform and set it up for PDX, while airport stakeholders managed the installation and configuration of all 378 LG LCD displays. SITA’s platform enhanced the benefits of the webOS system, preserving the security features inherent in webOS and ConnectedCare.

    “The webOS network is virtually impregnable from outside threats, with a built-in security mechanism that blocks anything trying to access PDX’s displays,” explained John Rutirasiri, Senior Technical Product Manager at LG Electronics USA. LG webOS has a built-in security system that blocks external intrusions, preventing unintended content from appearing on screens, and is specifically designed to connect to a single server. It operates via URL but is completely on-site and non-internet based.

    “Each screen functions as its own web page with a unique security URL, which bad actors can’t alter to redirect to other sites like YouTube. The URL is sent over the network to the display, and any changes require a screen reboot, alerting the backend. The operating system is fully optimized for the system-on-chip embedded in each display and is signed to that specific SoC.”

    Support Network

    Everyone involved seemed impressed with LG’s support network, and PDX’s Shepler was particularly appreciative when the ConnectedCare developers addressed early issues.

    “We encountered a few things that didn’t work initially as expected with our custom CMS,” he said. “Luckily, we were able to meet in person with some of the ConnectedCare developers from LG, allowing us to share our needs directly. Their development team responded quickly to our feedback and resolved our issues.”
